Thanks you the very much interesting video and your narrative. Modigliani was a truly master. Who deeply capture the inside out of the people he painted as well the blindness in them.

Maybe its simply that with the eyes depicted empty makes them more sculptural in how we experience and observe the image.

Thanks for this beautiful presentation, I have always wondered why art lovers at that time understand Picasso portraits and didn't get the depth in Modigliani portraits? As we do know.

I thought about his eyes as well. They look like DEAD EYES IN HIS PAINTINGS Perhaps he didn’t feel alive in his own life. He seemed troubled in his addictions

Perhaps the artist painted empty eye or made them shaped that way, similar to the african masks, to reflect the idea that our bodies and faces are indeed masks on our soul, and that our faces don't really tell who we are. We need to remember there is something beyond the surface. Indeed, the eyes are windows on the soul, just as they open eye holes in a mask are windows on the person wearing them.

The face is the mask, and all masks have cut out eyes, so you can see when you’re wearing the mask. . . Things I learned from a 5 year old.
