    Hey, thank you for the well
    Explained video. I would like to ask, do you think if I get C Line and if I upgrade the front post (the handle post) and the back (seat) post with titanium ones, will make the C Line lighter? I can’t afford T Line and I was hoping if I change the two posts this could make a difference of the weight? What do you think? Thank you in advance for your time. 🤝🤜🤛🌸

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 месяца назад +1

      Yes they would be lighter, but I don't think the gains is worth it. Unless you are going to carry the bike often, I would not change those parts. I personally would leave a C Line stock and upgrade as parts need to be changed by maintenance.

    As an owner of an original LightweightM6LXBrompton I have just changed to a black 535 mm titanium seat post (China), and before that, at first, "free service", a ceramic titanium crank. I have a black Joseph Kuosac headset to replace the original, and, as a rainy Dane I use mudguards, with the original, lightweight titanium struts. But the metal brackets holding them in place on the mudguards weighs a "lot", so I have ordered a set in carbon to replace them. I look at a new, expensive titanium stem post, but still painted flaming gold, as the original, not to advertise expensive parts, too much. My bike is a Black Version, so I keep it that way for anonymity. But I have changed bolts and parts to golden titanium and carbon, where possible. My titanium fork and back-frame are originally painted black.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 года назад +1

      🧑🏼‍🦲Nice I like the carbon mudguards. I may get them in the future 👍🏼 The ceramic BB is also next on my list 😊

      @@BromptonFamilyTime I have just changed the axle and nuts in front to a similar titanium, Gold version, as also formerly the brackets holding the axle secure and safe, to titanium, as You. Of course my nuts and discs in the back are also from titanium, as my tensioner. But the small, metal wheels rubbing against the chain makes a lot of noise, so I have gone back to the former plastic version for less noise!

    • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188
      @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 2 года назад +1

      @@BromptonFamilyTime Honestly, my mudguards are just the ordinary mudguards from the Brompton Factory, with - original titanium struts on a Lightweight model! I also use my bike on gravel passes in the country and round the town, and getting a lot of small stones up my back during that, isn't my idea of fun, as also during rain, if I ever have to ride in it (For now my folded bike is in the back of my car)! I may be able to save a little extra weight, buying a special version mudguards, but to my opinion not enough to pay for the cost of a new set.

    • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188
      @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 Год назад +1

      For now my bike, still with the original mudguards, weighs 9,35 kilo. I have an extra black, long titanium seat post with an integrated sadle ring-mount for less weight compared with original and heavy seat clamp but for now I don't use it, as I like to be able to fold it inside my black B&W transport box during travels, without any problems. • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  11 месяцев назад +2

      I would only change parts if it improves performance and as a bonus is lighter in weight like the crankset. Black Friday sales have some great prices on Praxis cranksets usually. EEbrakes and Ciamillo brakes go on sale too. Wheel sets are nice if you upgrade to ceramic and tend to be lighter too. It's never ending so you should plan and add up parts to see if your better upgrading or getting a T Line (I'm not sure what model you have).

    To get the bike to low 8s (kg) like this one, would you suggest upgrading from a c-line or p-line, while factoring in the cost of the bike as well. Is low 8s too much of a stretch for C-line?

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  Год назад +2

      When you add up all the cost of upgrading on a C or P, you will more than likely spend enough money to get a T Line. I would not recommend upgrading everything on a C except the basics or else you should just get a P. It's all personal preference, but I just think you will reach a point where you are just better off starting with the best one you can afford and upgrading it slowly.

      I always change out the seatpost and pedals (you you want to keep the original then buy a titanium bolt for them). Besides that it can get expensive so I would choose carefully or do them as the parts wear out 🤣

    Hey, here's a question I hope I'm not the only one asking :
    Say I want a touring brompton, for example schlumpf crank + 8speed rear hub.
    To minimize weight penalty, would you suggest upgrading from a steel, superlight or t line brompton?

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 года назад +2

      I would get a T-LINE and wait for a conversion kit to come out. I would guess another few months and you will see one.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  2 года назад +2

      The T-LINE design will make it easier since it has separated derailleur and tensioner.

      CHPT3 V3 is around 10kg with 6 speeds and many established mods available. I prefer Superlight too (used ones are getting cheaper too). T-Line and P-Line are nice but 4-speed are not enough for going uphill (until some good gear mods are here).

    How much weight was shaved off using the TPW stem from the original stem?

    Can ask if this is still the 6 speed gearing?

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  Год назад +1

      This has a 2 speed system with a 54/33 Tooth Front Chainring. I have owned a few 6 speed Bromptons but I do not have one currently.

      Ok, that’s a huge weight savings compare to the 6 speed. I’m going back and forth on a super light 6 speed or a p line. I don’t know if I can get the super light as light as the p line. Any advice? Love your videos especially with your son.

    • @BromptonFamilyTime
      @BromptonFamilyTime  Год назад +1

      The 6 Speed is heavy so I don't recommend it unless you need the gear range. The 6 speed shifter system is also unique so you may or may not like the way you have to shift. The P Line gearing is perfect for the city and bridges imo. You should definitely test ride them and you will probably know right away which one is right. Good luck.

    There are some of the parts you use actually adding weight. Personally I don't like Ti Parts because I think they are overrated and overpriced. They said it is made in HK but it's not. The owner does have a CNC machine but only limited products can be made from that little tiny studio by himself. Most of his products are just made in China. That being said, you can find the same products, such as the stem and handlebar, for much lower price. Pulley wheels are the one you should avoid to change to the aftermarket ones because the stock ones are more quiet and reliable. One thing I didn't see you modify is the rear hinge, which is good because titanium is not the right material for the hinge and bolts, simply just not strong enough and could be dangerous when you ride.
    Since you are already a BrommiePlus customer, I suggest you to get a chance to speak to the owner. His name is Jeff. He is a Canadian Taiwanese based in Taiwan. He knows Brompton really well. I learn a lot from him.
    Oh, BTW, if you don't really care about the price, there is one of the most overpriced brand - colorPlus. That dude sell $550 for a seatpost or $300 for a ti flat handlebar but they are all well-designed. He doesn't sell a lot in volume but makes big fortune by showing off his new car. Thanks to Brompton users who like to modify their Brompton with unlimited budget.

      I have always bought TiParts for many years. They are pricey but I trust their quality overall. I am trying new companies that seem to make good parts. I agree about the hinge pins. I would be scared to use titanium pins. Thanks for the info.

      Colorplus is nice but nutty expensive. Ti Parts is still by far the most popular for Brompton mods. H & H makes some nice stuff from Taiwan (its recently launched pedals are really bad looking though). Pedals I would recommend MKS & Ti Parts.

    Kind of wasted your money getting a T line. At 8.39 kg just ditch the Tannus tires and it will be at the T line weight.
