Been a while! Will have to get back to the other parts.
I believe Flare is the strongest offensive magic! I also know you record these in advance. But I would recommend getting Holy eventually. It's the second strongest offensive magic that White Wizards can learn.
And just based on what I know about fantasy stories and games? If a monster has the "necro" prefix (like the Necrotaurs you've faced? They should be weak to light magic (or the Dia that is super effective on undead monsters) because Necro does mean it's an undead monster. (Holy is also a light magic, but I think works on monsters that aren't undead unlike Dia)
lol and when it comes to elemental monsters? In some fantasy lore they are considered "magic creatures" so that could be why they can cast magic.
I feel like with the way "were" is used as a prefix to a creature? It's usually implied it transforms from something else into the suffix. So like a human turning into a tiger or the like.
For me when I hear Weretiger I think of the anime series Bungou Stray Dogs. The main character could transform into a magical/supernatural tiger? And eventually learned to only transforms parts of his body to tiger parts for fighting. But it's been a long time since I've watched the series.
I think when it comes to the new equipment you picked up? The fact that it doesn't increase your stats, or it can lower it a little? I think it's more so you have a non-elemental option. Which can be important if monsters or bosses have resistance to your strong elemental weapons if that makes sense. I know in other fantasy games some enemies are just resistant to magic in general. So magic items can do less than non-magic ones. It's pretty situational.
I don't think you'd have to worry about Smeyer's vampire story getting inspiration from places. Mostly because she's admitted she did zero research into existing lore before she wrote her story. And it's been said by a number of ppl how based on other lore? Her Vampires actually sound more like Fae than "vampires" regardless what they call themselves. And even according to her own lore she spent all her books calling the people who transform into wolves "werewolves". But according to her old ruling vampires? They are actually just shapeshifters but actual werewolves do exist elsewhere. And she honestly waited until like 3/4 through her last book before revealing her werewolves aren't werewolves lol
