Lyrics:
I’m dying to
Push their backs against the grain
And fool them all again and again
I’m trying to
We bitches tear our magazines
Those oligarchs with foaming mouths come
Now and then
Can’t believe for just one second I’m forgetting you
I’m trying to
I’m dying to

Bowie took his wife , Iman , and daughter , Lexi , on a nostalgic trip back to England in 2014 , to visit many of the places in London he so fondly remembered from his childhood .

Yo im making this my wedding song
I am seriously still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that this man's last album was essentially his GOODBYE/THANK YOU to the entire WORLD.
A true genius.
Aint that just like me
Yes David. We know. But we mourn all the same

I agree
the transition at the end to "I can't give everything away" is underrated
I live in Ukraine, didn't even have the opportunity to see David Bowie. But during listening his songs I feel like he was my friend. Because in our lives there are so few real friends...
This was so sad, beautiful, and well said.
@ObliviousComa 💚
I relate to what you said. I have seen David bowie in concert and grew up watching Labyrinth. And when he died it felt like one of my best friends died. It felt like a major loss. His last album was such a gift
The whole album felt like it was his way of saying goodbye, this line especially, in this song: "Don't believe for just one second I'm forgetting you, I'm trying to, I'm dying to."
This hurts. Planet Earth is blue and the stars are very different indeed.
Or is it trying too and dieing too
There's nothing I can do...
Vanessa Clark: Yes it hurts but..."the stars are out tonight"...
You are also a poet.
The planet Earth is blue like his eyes were
For some reason the lyrics “if I’ll never see the English evergreens I’m running to,” always hit me in my soul. It’s not even the most profound lyrics in the song but it’s just so..nice.
It’s Bowie’s way of sadly accepting he’ll never see his homeland again.
This line sounds like Wrecking Ball

Thank you
welp. the man turned even his own death into a piece of art. beautiful.
The Amazing Catfish - what else should an artist do ?????
He died just as he lived.
He's still not dead in my eyes. He's truly immortal.
He is not dead, he transcended an is with his old friend the action man...
There was another planet that needed him more. And you know what, good for them. Good for them.
I totally agree with you
He will never die ❤
And he has made sure of it. I'm so glad we have recorded audio AND video. He'll never die as long as human race is alive.
"If I never see the English evergreens I'm running to" - I can't imagine what it must be like to face your own mortality. He did it so poetically... ain't that just like him?
Your right: That just like him.🙏🏿
69 year old men with terminal cancer simply do not make music like this. God he was different, wasn't he..??
18 year old men without terminal cancer don't make music like this either. There's far, far far, more chance that someone who has written genius music for 50 years can still write it when physically dying.
@Wasted YouthFA Bowie would laugh at that comment.
Well, Bowie wasn't terminal when he wrote this. He was receding. But he just knew he was near the end so he wrote it anyways.
He's an alien obviously. Nevermind he's something more godlike than supernatural.

From falling in love with Hunky Dory in 1971 to Blackstar, we will never forget what you put into our hearts and souls David. A million thanks for your music.
Well said.. that sums it up beautifully. Thankyou ❤
The sax solo in the middle of the song is the saddest and heart destroying instrumental break I have ever heard. Dollar Days and Hey You (floyd) are just pure soul destroyers.
Friedrich Hueppe Agreed 😢
+Friedrich Hueppe Yes, indeed. I agree with you.....
Bowie's original preferred instrument the sax. I noticed how he sprinkled the last record with it. If you haven't already listen to side two of heroes now there is soul destroying sax. Watch the movie Christian F. that includes the songs from side two heroes; powerful.
Pink floyd's The gunners dream sax solo also.

when I started to discover music I uncovered this god. it all started with starman. A week later he dies... A month later I get blackstar on vinyl, I heard this song and broke down. I had only learned his music recently but he quickly became my favorite artist. And he always will be.

the entire album is incredible. writing what you're thinking while you're dying, then getting it together to lay the tracks down, pull a video out that is amazingly haunting all while he's Dying. his final gift to the world. exceptional. what the fuck happened to Tuesday wow.
+wantsomecoffee And at the same time doing it so subtley that nobody knows...
+ivankaramasov yes. so dignified. that's a good word for him all around.
+wantsomecoffee Nice comment
I've spoken to the drummer on this album, Mark Guiliana and he said that Bowie was always in good humour even though on occasion he was very ill. He also said that he was still very enthusiastic and creative from start to finish.
undoubtedly the "hidden gem" of what is an incredible album
I hope he found those English evergreens he was looking for in heaven.-God Bless RIP
I loved the beginning of this album but the final 2 songs close this album beautifully and perfectly.

+Cathy T :(
+Cathy T Ironic you wished him 1 day before his dead a healthy birthday.
+Dirk Vd Any more cruel ironies you want to point out?
+Dirk Vd Your comment and David's voice in this song made the tears flow. Being the intense Bowie fan I was/am, having the man's name tattooed on me in 1980, having met and kissed him on the lips, giving him a drawing I made of him in HS - personally at a 1978 Chicago concert, receiving thank you calls on my bday from his PR agent..... I always felt a very special bond w/ Mr. David Jones. When I heard this song and I Can't Give Everything Away I knew he knew and didn't want it to be so. Now I can't get "My Death" off my mind.
If you listen to this right before I Can't Give Everything Away, it transitions so beautifully
I've always held Bowie's early music as his best. I bought 2 copies of Blackstar on the day it was released and realised that some of his best stuff was his last.
This is in my top 3 Bowie songs. It's beyond brilliant.
right in front of our eyes and we didn't see the clues. rest in power. a dignified end indeed
+Ar die Agree. Bowie as dignified as always and ever right up to the moment he dies, all he has asked for is that his fans respect his family's privacy.
+Ar die Though his illness & death stunned me, this...."art"...does not surprise me in the least. One has only to look at the man's body of work to know the full extent of his creative talent, his versatility & his daring. I've been a fan since the early days (1972-73) & saw/heard him go from Ziggy..to Major Tom...Diamond Dogs/his "Floor Show".....Young Americans...."The Thin White Duke"...Heros....The Man Who....Ashes To Ashes....China Girl.... Pop, Rock, R & B, "Disco," his work with Reznor, some jazzy stuff here & there,... The man's artistry had few limits. He will be sorely missed.

So sad, I know...
impossible to listen to without choking up...the Sax just pushes you over the emotional edge.
so moving. brought tears to my eyes.
Happy birthday, David.
This is the most heart aching song on this fantastic album. Did it his own way, till the end. With such originality.
David Bowie is simply the best artist of the last century. He was able to go where people had not been and changed course at any given moment. Respect and rest easy.
He totally knew what was going to happen.
+sovereignentity We all know what's going to happen. It's knowing when that's the trick.
+sovereignentity well, it's better to die releasing an album than leaving nothing in this world
+Flaviyake Official "nothing"
+NoirSkyz Think about it. Almost every human does nothing with their life. For those who are fortunate; we go to school, get a job, get old, retire and die. Others are not so lucky to go to school, get a job and retire. David Bowie made great music, while 3/4ths of the planet do nothing to contribute. Life would be pointless without people like David Bowie.
+Zero David Bowie was not a saint and i think he would of been the first to admit this most of us struggle that does not mean our lifes are nothing Bowie was blessed with a great voice and also songwriter
The world turned crazy after he left us. Ive been a fan in 55 years and I never will stop listening to his music.
Beautiful, Profound, Moving - don’t believe for just one second that I’m forgetting you
Ziggy back to the BLACKSTAR, Thank You David for leaving us with this MasterPiece!
His voice is so impossibly beautiful on this one... heartbreaking song
Y'know, this is the very first time I listen to a David Bowie album (yes, I noticed David Bowie because everyone was talking about his death) and I gotta said that I'm abso-fucking-lutely blown away!
This album is perfect. Five stars. No argument needed. I only knew David because of Nirvana's cover of "The Man Who Sold The World" and now that I listen to this incredible album, I'm blown away. I don't even know what the hell to say.
What a way to start 2016. R.I.P David Bowie, I would've loved to hear more from you.
+Fidel Rodríguez It is a great album and you should check out some of his other albums. He has made so many great ones, and they are all very different.
At least u discovered his music! And...there's a lot of it to listen to and absorb.
it wasn't a cover from nirvana it was some other dude
+Fidel Rodríguez Normally 1990's kids are fans of David Lynch, so you would have heard the opening track to Lost Highway which was David Bowie.
+Ismael Martinez nivana and lulu
"If I'll never see the English evergreens I'm running to. It's nothing to me, it's nothing to see." Heartbreaking lyric. Love you David forever and ever. Eternal gratitude.
I came to think of the question "What would you do if you knew you had 18 months left to live?". Most people would say "I'd travel and do all the things I've always wanted to".
David's answer would have been "I'll make it a show" and then he created his last masterpiece.
And now the master is at peace.
For Johnny Cash too. RIP
Bowie said goodbye to us with a great modern jazz rock album, genius.
I'm in tears, hauntingly beautiful and tragic. He was and always will be amazing!!!!!
Donny McCaslin just absolutely shines on BLACKSTAR. Kudos to David Bowie for bringing him and his contemporary jazz band on board. I have to say Mark Giuliana does some really great drumming throughout. Every song on BLACKSTAR just fantastic
David always played with the best.
Still mourning here... You are missed. Love you Bowie
David Bowie was musical genius, this was my favorite song of all time. Rest in peace, we lost a treasure.
Best song on the album - shame it didn't get a video. Powerful symbolism in these lyrics.
Followed this Man since the sixties along with Dylan. No one betters them, RIP Bowie see you in heaven.
"Although I wasn't there, he said I was his friend". Although I never knew him personally, his masterful work, make me feel like he was my friend. I think David Bowie was a friend to all those who understand him, through the expression of his soul, which is his life's work. He was so fucking awesome! I just can't believe the Starman has returned home for good! 😥♥⭐🌹
I often come back in the evening, late, listen to this first minute that always makes me cry so much. We will never forget you, never

I’m falling down
It’s nothing to me
It’s nothing to see
If I'll never see the English evergreens I’m running to

It’s nothing to see
[Chorus 2]
I’m dying to
Push their backs against the grain
And fool them all again and again
I’m trying to
It’s all gone wrong but on and on
The bitter nerve ends never end
I’m falling down
Don’t believe for just one second I’m forgetting you
I’m trying to

RIP be that Bluebird and be free. You touched so many lives including mine since the 70's. You will be missed but Never Forgotten.
David Bowie's biggest surprise to us was the shocking realization that he was, indeed, human.
David Bowie, I love you, thank you for providing the soundtrack of my young life, and, before departing, leaving us with a collection of songs that are not afraid of the fear, that might lead us in age the way ziggy and major tom guided us in youth. Looking at all these comments under all of these new songs and I'll be damned if there isn't hardly any douchbagery, trolling, or hate. So very rare for the youtube comment sections...I'd have to say it is a very beautiful thing.
***** for sure, this one is really good. The whole album is just so mint. Lovin it.
Don't read the comments for Blackstar video. Lots of negativity and haters unfortunately
Jacob Evans, I dig what you're putting down, you little wonder.
totally agree...
+Bryton Cherrier Bless you. Yes, you're right. That's what I always think when I see nasty comments, and I try to have compassion rather than irritation. So sweet that you say this. Big hugs.
Yeah, "I've got no enemies" is maybe my favorite line from this song... he's at the end of his life and he's free of hate. All of our differences and fears and misunderstandings and woes maybe seem to fade away when you recognize the enormity of each of our lives. When you're old, wise and dying, maybe you better recognize the humanity in yourself and everyone, so you are free of having enemies...
Beautifully said
Ain't this just the most beautiful thing?
too all the39 thumbs down you missed out on life! what a shame! there is a better way! Everything about this song is deep. So many references to past, present and future. It’s smooth and comforting. His knowledge of his pending death and still genius emerged for an eternal purpose of his life’s work. I love him still.
Okay so this song is now about ten times sadder
he knew
+alexf02071999 "I'm dying too..." he was literally telling us and everyone was going around talking about how they had no idea what the new album meant because it was so abstract... bitterly ironic

"I'm dying to" or "I'm dying too"? One letter has never meant so much
+Ja mes He was an expert on such double meanings. There is an older song called "I can't read" where he sings "I can't read shit anymore..." (it is a critique of mass media), but it sounds like he is singing "I can't reach it anymore..." Well, he certainly could.
+ivankaramasov
Another song with a possible double meaning in the lyrics..
Watch That Man...he could eat you with a fork and spoon, could easily be, he could eat you with a fuckin' spoon.
My personal favourite would have to be 'In this age of grand illusion / In this age of grand delusion' from 'Word On A Wing'.
Oh god...you're right
yes, that hurts, dude. :/
He is singing to the trees. "I'm trying, too. I'm dying, too"
Man, that is sad. And what a message.
His entire last release is a combination of seasoned brilliance, pathos and puzzles. These works are immense and profoundly moving.
I m weeping at the beauty David bowie has created .
what a great song. saxophone + David's vocal. heaven on Earth.
This song was always the most poignant to me. Just him accepting that he was too ill to go back to his home country and making peace with that. Just a heartbreaking song. I know Blackstar and Lazarus were the singles for this album, but this and I Can't Give Everything were always my favorites.

Just got the t shirt today, the man was just class he gave so much, and Blackstar is up there as his greatest album, and the man has produced so much, bearing in mind, he was nearly 70 when this masterpiece came out, it is staggering. So sad he has passed away, really he was the last of British musical icons. RIP the classy master.
This fabulous man made the soundtrack of my life, genius is nowwhere near what he was. I listen to his music everyday of my life and have done for the last 46 years. He will be remembered in hundreds of years in the same way as Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Strauss are.
