Making a center part: Another way to create alpaca fiber BJD wigs

  • Hi everyone! This week's video is another wig project: Creating an alpaca fiber wig by applying hair directly to the wig cap instead of making wefts, and then using wefts to create a center part. I tried to slow down a little this time, since a few people told me I move too fast for them to keep up!
    Check out my huge compressor for airbrushing in the background, haha. There's no room in our house for tools that can't pull double duty, so it's also used for power tools and airing car tires! If I fill the tank, I can airbrush for an hour before I need to refill it. :)
    What other styles of wig would you like to see me make?

    This video reminds me of the first time I made a marrionette doll in fifth grade. (Not to brag too much but it came out fantastic :) ) I had pulled apart a pom pom to get the straight locks of hair like in the video. It's so cool to see this in a video so many years later :D

    I followed this tutorial and made a brushed yarn wig, came out great thank you so much. And it does look very similar to the alpaca fibers.

    If you are looking for a super straight part you can use a wooden skewer when you put the wefts there to really press down on the head right at the part, repeat on the other side and it should help. I think it turned out great!

    Thanks so much for this video. I'm working on a wig made out of brushed out yarn, and this helps me alot with it.

    You can also use acrylic yarn since it's similar to alpaca fur. And I think your tutorial is helpful and awesome.

      I've been meaning to use acrylic yarn for a wig forever, I just haven't gotten around to it yet! I'll have to put it on my to-do list so I can remember. And thank you!

      You're welcome! I encountered the same problem with all my boys. The big guys always seem to have such odd head shapes, nothing ever fits them right.

    Thanks for sharing this great video. What brush or comb do you use to initially comb out the raw alpaca fiber? I'm trying to get better at doing that with less hair loss. I'm also trying to perfect a method for combing out long locks. Right now I'm starting and the bottom and working my way to the top as I comb, but I feel like I end up with a lot of loss at the ends that way.

      I use a Wet Brush Pro for the whole thing. It's a really gentle hair brush I got at the local Sally beauty supply and I found I get less than half the waste using it as I did with other combs and brushes.

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  3 года назад +1

      For this one I used E6000 glue, but since then I have switched to using Aleene's Fabric Fusion glue as it is much less smelly but still waterproof!

    How much fiber did you use?

    In the end is the hardest my doll head feels so hard and tacky because I have to applied so much glue since the hair keeps falling :-) maybe alpaca hair is lighter than others! Next time I will try alpaca hair :-)

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  6 лет назад +1

      Oh yeah, alpaca hair is much lighter and easier to work with! A finished wig weighs hardly anything at all. :)
