I just came back to elite few days ago and first thing I did was core mining in my python. Last time I played and core mined was when LTD prices where through the roof and I earned some nice credits. I'm finding core mining very relaxing and don't really care anymore about profits after long time away from the game. Fly safe commander o7.
Welcome back :) Yeah last time I did this was mining void opals when the price was like 1.6Mcr per tonne! It's nowhere near that now, and it's not super time efficient to mine, but it sure is fun and satisfying. The best credit maker, and easiest task to do is exobiology.
Oh I forgot to say in the video, but you will also need a refinery module on your ship to process the asteroid fragments!

I have a Federal Corvette & and a Python for core mining, though I've stopped playing for about a year and a half.
