I would really love a couple delta heritage livery like the us air American one like on of the old grey and red and the latest northwest air one with they light grey and red
I had 23 years with Northwest filled with happy memories. The friendships that developed during my tenure are what I will always cherish along with the office comraderie, and let's not forget the Christmas parties and picnics.
Spent 18 yrs at NWA, as a Aircraft maintenance Technician. Lots of blood and Sweat in those years. I'd have over 30 years with them this year. It was a dream job, that turned into a nightmare, by the management team that bought us back in 1989.
Wonderful video! My mother is a retired agent for the former NWA. I grew up with this airline, seeing the red-tails fly in and out of MSP International. I've flown on NWA hundreds of times as a result. Music brought a tear to my eye. Well composed!
It's a common misconception, but Northwest actually bought Delta in 2008 according to a Delta pilot who used to work for Northwest. Delta was bankrupt and Northwest was in fantastic shape. So they bought Delta and took the Delta name in order to not isolate themselves to the northwest in people's minds. Sad, I miss Northwest so much!
The Airline business was just such an inspiration to me. Back then, Narita, where I frequently use the most, being from Japan and all, was filled with NWA planes painted in that "Bowling Shoe" livery. Also United was another one that dominated Terminal 1, and they still do. Both of those "Grey" liveries were so awesome just to look at. I just want to go back to those days as a kid when I would go to the airport just to see those planes take off and land. Goodbye NWA.
Northwest was the first airline I ever flew on. I sat in a cockpit of a 727, and that is what made me become a pilot. I always wanted to fly for NWA, but... I can't now. RIP NWA.
Mr. Kicker, Everyone has this on their iphone at work. It still touches our heart. I downloaded it and lost it in my computer, it shall rise someday. Bless you
I went to Eastern Michigan University from 1999-2005 which is 20 miles west of Detroit Metro Airport. Man I flew NW all the time especially to Las Vegas. I still miss them
Thanks for the pics in the hybrid scheme from the late 80's - those of us who were RC people and lived through that horrible merger appreciate the shout out...
I had not always been a fan of Northwest (mostly due to aircraft interiors) but I now realize how much I will miss it, of my 50+ flights with them I was delayed only once, never lost any luggage, and service was always top notch, good bye and thank you NWA
Just beautiful, God Bless those of us who tried. Thank you for making this, I understand that they have been playing it in inflight Detroit. Play it at my funeral Detroit 204124
Northwest Orient Airlines was my introduction to commercial aviation as a boy in the eighties. To this day, it's still NWO to me. That classic thermometer livery is the definition of perfection.
You have my sympathy Penny....Where have all "the" airlines gone ?....I can remember when any airline was a blast to work for back then. Anthony C...UAL retired 35yrs...
I only saw *Northwest Airlines* once and that was when i was about to be a 1st grader and on summer i was going to the dentist i saw a northwest airlines *a321-200* pass by and that was my first and last time i ever saw northwest airlines!
Northwest airlines never ordered the A321. All they had in the A320 family were A320s and A319's. You probably confused the A321 for one of these or the 757 which also looks similar to the A321.
I may be a train guy but I am also a fan of airplanes! I used to fly on Northwest all the time andI loved there service! I would take Northwest to all my favorit Railfaning locations around the country for a great price!!! I will miss them! I would like to thank all the crew for there graet service and a smooth flight! THANK YOU :D
Gave me goosebumps watching! Another great US airline gone! Good airline and even better people! Worked in Seattle Flight Kitchen from 88-90 and Seattle reservations till 93. Would have stayed if not for layoffs. Miss this airline! Still work in the airline industry but have always thought NW, my first airline I’ve ever worked for was the best. Made so many good friends. Was very sad when the hanger and flight kitchen in Seattle were torn down. Remember being able to nonrev with 100 seats open quite a bit. Being 18 years old I used to dress up in coat and tie and take the late NW flight 158 usually a DC10. from SEA to MSP and nonrev back on NW 7 a 747 home. I just loved to fly and was an honor working for this great carrier!
Gregory, feeling is mutual. i was a F/A for NWA for 14 years ( way before your time) My first time to enter US was thru the training course at MSP and i still remember the motto from the training class in Tokyo was : Think like a man, work like a horse and act like a lady. One thing i regretted in my whole life was to quit flying for them when decided to become a full time mother at home. I still miss my ex-colleagues from Seattle, Chicago, Tokyo and Taipei. We were so proud of being a F/A for Northwest. Seeing pax deplane with a big smile on their face be it a long haul or a short hop was the greatest job satisfaction to me.
@CriWt2 I seem to recall Northwest approaching Delta with the Merger, attempting to buy them when Delta was in bankruptcy. Delta held out, got their operation reorganized, and then went to the bargaining table.
@pacificanairways Northwest and Delta actually did make a compromise. Depending on who you talk to, the merger was in talks long before it was announced. That's why when Delta came out with it's new livery, the Delta "widget" on the tail was pointed in the same direction as the Northwest compass pointer was. They compromised with a merged, albeit obscure, paint scheme.
Northwest Airlines was founded on 1926 as Northwest Airways, in 1934 changed the airline name from Northwest Airways to Northwest Airlines (commenced operations). It ceased operations (discontinued) on 2010 it will become a Delta Air Lines. All NWA Aircrafts will be painted to Delta Air Lines livery
Delta had been around long before and they merged with NWA. Before they merged Delta had a livery from 2000 to 2008 named the "Deltaflot". They changed the livery when they merged.
As a 34 yr veteran of NWA, I recall the "Regal Imperial Service" or 1st class in a 3 class configuration (coach, business and 1st) . caviar, fine china stuffed lobster and crab, standing rib roasts set in the aisle, fine scotch and the best champagne all in seats wide enough for two....there were only 8 such seats available in a 747-200, in the forward part of the lower deck. !st class was discontinued because of the cost, a one way ticket from LA to Tokyo could cost as much as $16,000.
DC-10s were retired back around 2004 when NWA was still NWA. Its sad to see the MD80s go, but they are old aircraft. More of a shock to see the 747 200s go though, some of which were bought less then 10 years ago. Atleast they are keeping the 747 400's in service for now....
@pacificanairways They did, in fact this merger kept essentially all of the old NWA routes, planes, and personnel. Even the mostly red tail of the new Delta is NWA-like.
they started off very succesfully and were one of the top airliners in the sky. and eventually they merged with delta. and NWA was also to receive the first delivery of the B787 Dreamliner.
I will miss NW's redtails on my trips to Asia. Farewell Northwest Airlines. You've been a very good friend through all my years of flying across the Pacific.
wow! great video, thanks a lot! great music... Northwest will live always in people's hearts. now we are the biggest and best airline all over the world!
Used to fly that airline so much as a kid, and I still draw the red, and grey planes. Now I fly Delta, seems different. My last flight in a Northwest plane, was from Flint, MI, to Atlanta, GA on an MD-50.
a Lovely video with a fab ending, it was so in time with the music as the airbus passed by, Sadly missed, bye bye NWA, i will always miss seeing your red tails at Gatwick
It sucks this country is losing its iconic Airlines, TWA, Pan Am, Eastern, and Northwest. I worked for TWA for over 20 years, my father was a pilot my mother was a flight attendant and it hurts every time one of these Airlines disappears
I was hired at NWA at the MSP HQ in 1977, just prior to airline deregulation. I had a front row seat to NWAs rise after the Republic merger in 1986, to its final days and its ultimate dismantling. There seemed to be an unending succession of crisis and chaos, but such was the airline industry of the late 20th century. The feud between NWA management and employees was part of the fabric until even its last days. NWA was far from perfect, neither were many of its employees. Grand memories now.
I miss domestic flights on those DC-10's. My last flight on NWA was in 08 DC-9 the first time I ever flew first class Norfolk to Detroit. A $40 upgrade I figured why not.
Instead of Northwest merging with Delta, they could have merged World Perks with Delta Sky miles. It's all because of the present Northwest Airlines CEO Doug Steeland who made things worse for Northwest . NWA would at that time , would also be able to buy the 787 but NWA was merged into Delta at that time.Nice video.
I wanted to grow up and be a Northwest pilot... thanks to Delta, that dream's crushed. I remember how the pilots would greet you with a smile when you boarded and exited the plane, and sometimes would even give kids a little fact card about the plane or a plastic wing badge... bye nwa
Why didin't they show this at NWE. Beautfy. Brings tears to my eyes, as I start to pack up all the NWA memoribelia around the house. Thank you. Please play the music at my funeral. Detroit #204124

yup..if u look on all of NWA's Fresh painted planes. Under the Registration numbers it will say " Operated by Northwest Airlines" And the FA's and Pilots Still Call Themselves NW..

Waiting sometime to continue my flight to Minneapolies and ended up at Bradley Airport, CT.... It was my first and last flight with Northwest.. iSome comments said that Northwest was merged to Delta, really? My second visit to USA was in 2016 for attending international conference... I departed from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan and flew back to Amsterdam by Delta as well.... It was unforgattable flight with it....
Thank God I got out before it was too late. I was a ramp rat for about 9 years, it was good when I started, but started taking a big fall in around '04, '05.
it is sad how much we are losing 82 years pioneering the pacific and the jet age..look what we built and no one from Delta will say thank you to us. If what we built wasn't valuable why would they buy it? How quickly DL forgot how it feels, remember keep my Delta, Delta?

If you look at the Delta tail its the same symbol as the northwest Icon compass.. So you know its still Northwest in Delta colors..
And the logo points NW to
Northwest should have knocked out the Delta name. NWA was more iconic.
