Its funny, out of all the emotional gut punches this episode has, nothing hits me harder than Violet crying because of the overwhelming empathy she feels for that child 😭 She really is just one of the most beautiful characters ever written. Im a child therapist and the amount of empathy and healing she provided for that child is just so pure 😭😭😭

I didn't cry at the funeral, but the moment the first letter started, I too could not hold back my tears.

This is possibly top-3 most emotional anime episodes I ever watched, only a few episodes of Clannad made me feel more. But as a standalone episode I think this was perfect.

Me too. I wouldn't particularly rank Violet Evergarden (the series as a whole) as one of the saddest i've watched but if it's just ep10 then it is one of my top. Still makes me cry.
Also agree with Clannad (After Story), that's my top 1 too.

I can't get over episode 11, because yeah it is sad, but illness can take people away, but episode 11 really shows you the pointless costs of war

Out of the entire series, this was the one that truly got me. I think Episode 10 will stay with me for the rest of my life. What a timeless and tragic story. Beautifully done.
7:44 When Ann says that her father died fighting in the war, Violet winces. For all she knows, Violet could have killed Ann’s father herself. She killed so many without a second thought, there’s no way of knowing one way or the other. In her mind, she might as well have.

how can you understand them not watching the ending of the canon story of violet evergarden? ignoring the ending of her character arc and pretending like she isnt in love with gilbert (and vice versa) just means you never understood her character to begin with and never gave the show the proper attention and respect it deserves. you can dislike the show or dislike the movie because of the age gap romance, but watching the series and ignoring the canon ending pretending it doesnt exist is trite and immature. @@uninterruptedrhythm4104

Ann asks “What kind of bread is too hard to eat?” while hiding a frying pan behind her back. Violet responds literally, not recognizing it wasn’t a genuine question. It’s a play on words that doesn’t translate to English. The Japanese word for bread is “pan”.

I haven’t heard that Ann became a lawyer to protect the house. I don’t get that impression from the scenes in this episode or the movie, but I’m not 100% certain of that. It feels more like something that would happen in the books, which the show made a lot of changes from. I haven’t read the books in a long time though, so I’m not certain again.

@@JasmineTeaEnjoyer Because some people got uncomfortable with it and pushed their views on them. Personally I think being uncomfortable with stuff like that is fine, what I hate is when they go and try to force others to have the same opinion and tell how they should feel.
Didn't like the ending of the movie? No problem, you can't help what makes you uncomfortable, but please don't try and force your views on others, let them enjoy what they want.
By the way, I don't know how true it is but I read in the comments in the last video that Lola and Milena did indeed listen to them and skipped the last movie. If they never react to the last movie that will just be disheartening as hell.
What do you mean “that’s how the light novel ends too”? Aside from Gilbert being alive the show deviated too far for it to be the same.
The show’s ending was made assuming they weren’t making any more later. As such, it’s a perfectly valid conclusion. Lots of fans are very happy with that ending, then the movie sours the whole series for them. Have you seen a reactor that this happened to? It sucks more than them having never watched it.
If by the end of the show they seem to be that type of fan, then let them enjoy that ending and move on. Judging by how they felt about Charlotte and Damien, plus the new info and changing perspective on Violet and Gilbert, it seems safe to assume they wouldn’t enjoy the movie.
@@TukaihaHithlec I meant that violet and Gilbert's meet in the end of novel ofcrs it was different from the anime route there was relationship development between them romantically and more of Gilbert's pov and what he was doing the anime can be considered same as the light novel in a sense even tho the path is different the conclusion and context is the same and e what's the harm in getting their opinion on the movie everyone can think differently if u find that weird in the novel violet was depicted more older at the time of movie and during the time Charlotte's wedding in the anime she said she was 14 but in the light novel she didn't know and it was hinted that she was close to being adult
No I do not support letting reactors stay in ignorance completely missing the point on pivotal character development and aspects of the plot. If LM actually don't think that Violet and Gilbert are romantically in love with each other after watching this first (and only) season, than they failed to understand the most basic parts of her character and of the story itself. The writers/artists behind this series could not be more explicit when showing that Violet and Gilbert are CLEARLY romantically in love with each other. Episode 1: Violet falls into a trance staring into Gilbert's eyes, calling them beautiful. He puts on the brooch around her neck (Which is what a Lover does). Episode 5: An ENTIRE episode dedicated to a girl the SAME AGE as Violet getting with an adult man and its portrayed as an objectively positive and good thing. Another episode where Gilbert names Violet "Violet" after a beautiful blooming flower nearby, saying the quote "I believe you will GROW into that name one day" considering she was like 10 years old or something when he named her. Pay Attention next time you watch a TV show and maybe the canon ending to the story wont piss you off. @@TukaihaHithlec

I cried just as hard the first watch. I cry a little every time i watch it. Today it hit especially hard. I'm grown with kid's of my own, but my mommy is very ill and obviously is not long for for this world. Hug your mommas and love on them while you have them.

I wasn't even that big of a fan of Violet Evergarden honestly, but this episode... no matter how many times I watch this episode I bawl my eyes out.
Imagine how hard it was for Violet to not cry and keep a straight face in front of Ann, despite knowing the truth.
This is the episode that brings a multihit combo to the feels. The lead up to her death is hard enough and then come the letters. And when you think you get some time to breathe they show you how it effects Violet. War veterans have praised this show for the accuracy on ptsd and most refuse to comment on this episode.

Contrary to your statement, a very vocal minority is defending the idea of romance between Gilbert and Violet. When the reactors previously mentioned that everyone is in agreement that romance between adults and children isn’t good, you commented proclaiming your support for it even in real life, so there’s that.
And who are you calling “braindead”? The one and only thing in the original -twelve- *_thirteen_* episodes that could reasonably be interpreted as romantic attraction is the use of “I love you / Aishiteru”, but that’s used between family as well. Parents say that to/about their children on more than one occasion, including this very episode.
If they wanted it to be more obvious, maybe they could have shown Violet at least recognize attraction to/from/between anyone at all? Maybe they could have had Gilbert treat her like a crush instead of like a daughter or little sister? Maybe he could have told his mother that he wanted to marry Violet, instead of talking about the possibility of adopting her and how small she was. Maybe their reunion could have involved a kiss, or at least Violet hugging Gilbert back for once.
I could go on a long time about all the evidence that their relationship is familial, but I’m genuinely curious what evidence you think says it’s romantic, given your aggressive insistence. Again, here’s hoping you finally reply this time and don’t just disappear once more.

They weren’t constantly making jokes or being mean about the behavior of the daughter. They understood the situation and empathized.

It's not about whether or not I "think" that happened... that's literally what happens... obviously. I mean, maybe they don't get officially married with a legal document and everything but they most certainely become romantic partners and live happily ever after.
