While I think the jury got things right, that stupid, drooling Trump cultist was out on a hunting trip and got exactly what he was looking for. Doesn’t change the fact that he was attacked…but he wouldn’t have been if he hadn’t been somewhere he shouldn’t have been with a gun he had no business being in possession of. And that his mother who drove him there isn’t sharing a cell with the Crumbley’s is beyond me.
One can only hope the law suits bankrupt the little idiot and his mother. Rittenhouse had no business being there, with an AR, no less. Fucking imbecile caused the avoidable death of two people. Jurors in the case were similarly imbeciles, at least in the opinion of this former Asst DA.

He was putting out a literal dumpster fire that nearly blew up a gas station and potentially napalm people. And he had no duty to retreat yet did so multiple times, was attacked multiple times by people with no business pursuing him, and two of them died for it, and the third was neutralized by a shot to the forearm and thus Kyle STOPPED the threat and proceeded to get the hell out of there. Oh yeah, and his dad lived in that Kenosha, and he had lived and WORKED there. That was HIS community, and if the deadbeat officials and cops had actually done their JOBS he would have never been in a position of having to be asked to help the community out in the first place. He's intelligent and knowledgeable, but he is an alarming tendency tooth extreme social bias. He has value, as do his lessons, but I wouldn't go so far as to deify him deify him. I'm sure that not all of them were innocent. I've noticed that his hard and fast rules tend to become a little flexible when it comes to his perceived value of the persons involved. It is not new information. He has been saying exactly the same thing for decades. It is common sense to me, but common sense comes from a common experience. When I swung on someone in a fight, I was doing it to defend myself; not to "beat" them. I did not and do not believe anyone "wins" a fight. Some lose less than others.
This topic is interesting to me. It’s so layered in lawyer that for the average individuals it’s impossible to decipher. Shooting in self defense. By shooting someone you have acknowledged the fact the individual may die, in order to (100%) stop a threat, the threat must be rendered incapable of movement. A wounding shot doesn’t promise a reduction of threat. We shoot knowing what the outcome could be fatal, but we verbally express that (stoping the threat) is the goal. It’s a perversion of law. I don’t have to change the (action) to find someone guilty of manslaughter, I’ll just change language of the (action). In my eyes this is the ending of second amendment.
I have a legal question if you don’t mind me asking man… What do you say to the 911 dispatcher when they ask what happened after you had to use your gun in self-defense to stop a threat on your life? (In the sense to not potentially incriminate yourself) Can those dispatch recordings be used in court against you to expose potentially incriminating evidence by the prosecution?

Agreed, I've been watching his videos and a few others to absorb as much knowledge as possible in addition to visiting the range to train and hone my skills. Everyone first time gun owner should be very diligent and studious. This is coming from a resident of NYC, just acquired my R/S permit along with my CCW. I will continue to learn and do my part to show others that gun ownership is not only a right but a responsibility we should all take seriously.
In October 1994 I stopped a home invasion in my home in the nicest neighborhood of Greenville, SC. I stopped the threat with a gun I kept in my nightstand. I did not kill the assailant. During the lead up to the trial and even after the trial the Judge asked my in chambers why I did not kill the assailant. My answer was simple; I did not have to. I was able to stop the threat short of lethal force. Another aspect of shooting to stop the threat rather than shooting to kill, is that it is easy to kill a person. It is much harder to deal with it afterward. Your life is forever changed when you kill someone. I speak from having 77 confirmed kills in Vietnam. Furthermore, killing someone in your own home carries with it another level of complications. Though I did not kill the assailant, we were no longer comfortable in the house, and within three months we had moved. I believe the scenario you have laid out is the correct one. Shoot to stop the threat, not to kill. Great video.

@@percyfaith11 I had a similar problem, but no firearms invoked. Cops will say, "one guy goes to the hospital and the other guy goes to jail". Judge and DA refused to drop the case. Excessive force is a hard case to defend.

This is oure nonsense. Amber G. went to jail because she busted into a home that did not belong to her and killed the man inside. Then she didn't even try to save him. How in the world is that terrible mistake not punishable by prison? If I made the mistake, or you did, we would have met the same fate. You don't get to gun people down without cause and not pay for it. Period. It makes no difference what she said or didn't say. She fucked up, killed an innocent, acted as she didn't care, and paid the price. Fair deal. Open and shit. Any parents worth their salt would not of had their child in a state they do not live in at 17 years old out with a rifle in the middle of the night. At that moment he was within his rights to defend himself and he did. That was totally irresponsible for him to be there, however that was no murder. Kyle got lucky on the gun charge as it appears he was probably in violation of the law on that one. The rest of the charges were political bs. Let's not make political bs out of Amber's case. She went down, and lost her appeals not because of what she said, it is because her action were aggregious and indefensible. We would be in jail too. Let's call a spade a spade. Like Chauvin should be free right? Nope, he broke the law and policy and paid the price. Just because he killed a shifty asshole person does not mean it is no longer murder. Massad Ayoob has been my firearms sherpa since the 1980's when I first picked up a firearm as a kid. I have carried a firearm both professionally and as a civilian since the early 90's and I can tell you for certain Massad's wisdom is always with me. I can't thank you enough Mr. Ayoob.

Shortly after 9/11 living in Atlanta Ga area I went down and got my CC permit. I carried daily, everywhere, until we were finally brought off condition red. I bought your book..In the Gravest Extreme.. It was outstanding, it open my eyes to a lot of foolish notions I had about armed defense, and how wrong I was. Based around multiple statistics, recorded events, and records listed in that book, I developed the proper mindset needed, if indeed, I actually needed to pull and use my weapon. Without reading it, I am sure I would have ended up on the wrong side of the statistics with my original notions and Ideas of self protection. The book served me well, and I have turned many to it. One of the most important things I took away was, once I reveal the gun, the trigger is to be pulled immediately. If you can't do that in confidence, then you need to learn when and why you can. Nothing schools you better than facts...enjoy

As a corrections officer I was always taught to "shoot center mass and shoot to stop". I love how all of the armchair quarterbacks say, "shoot him in the leg (or arm)." Real life is different.
I'd say he explained the reasoning for that perfectly. Why would you use deadly force against someone if your life was in so little jeopardy that you shot them in the leg.
Shooting at center mass is shoot to kill no matter if you say it wss shoot to stop! If you shot 10,000 people at center mass and all 10,000 died as the result of it, then shoot to stop is the same as shoot to kill no matter what you say in court. Sure, words matter but if shoot to stop has the exact same outcome as shoot to kill, then it is equivalent!!!

This point of view has never been expressed in the few defense courses I've taken. Instructors have always said "shoot to kill" when in a situation that you can not get out of any other way. To be fair, they have always recommended doing whatever is practical to avoid a confrontation. I'll watch for this at the next class I take, and if not mentioned, I'll bring it up. Was just having this discussion with a friend, told her do NOT shoot to wound (shoot in leg ect) because some DA will be like "well you took the time to aim at a smaller target, so you must not of been in immediate danger ect" you broke it down in a way that makes it easier to get the message across. 😁
I tell people this when they try that argument. If you are not shooting for the largest target (torso), and aiming for a smaller target at a place that is less likely to stop the threat, then you didn't feel that your life was in danger and therefore it's not a justifiable shooting
Retired LEO, “shoot to stop the threat” is exactly what we were taught in the academy and annually during use of force training. Wise words from Mr. Ayoob.
Nashville Metro Police say the same but then we got to watch more than 10 officers empty their high capacity magazines into a suspect whom they *thought* was armed. The suspect did goad them into drawing their weapons but it doesn't take over 100 rounds to stop a human. Funny how untrained citizens are held to a higher degree in a court of law than a highly trained police force.
I went trough a ccw training class 35 years ago, the instructor said you are in a defensive shooting, only say three things, I feared for my life , I shot to stop the treat, and I want to speak to my attorney.

@@BlackDotPatrick Actually, I watched a rather lengthy video where Massad addresses this very topic, and he does not agree with you. 1) He attacked me (or whatever). 2) I feared for my life. 3) give a bare minimum description of what happened - but don't sign a statement and don't answer questions 4) say I will cooperate, but I need a few days to compose myself (and speak with counsel). 5) Point out any evidence and witnesses. And always, always, always - by the first one to call 911. Always have a phone. There is more to the video - it is worth seeing.

When I went through the academy during the legal part we had a deputy state attorney tell us that if we ever had to shoot someone in the line of duty or otherwise never to say I shot to kill, but instead say I shot to stop, as there is a legal difference and can mean the difference between being free or serving time.

I think Amber Guyger was a terrible example. She fucked up. She killed an innocent person in his home eating ice cream. So because she was a cop She does not have to account for her mistake? Wtf are yall talking about. She didn't go to jail because she said the wrong thing. She went to jail because she killed an innocent person for no reason. She went for her mistakes. Kyle Rittenhouse was getting cracked over the head with a skateboard and being wooped by multiple people. He had every right to shoot even though his 17 year old butt should of never been there with a rifle out in the streets. He was still justified in defending himself. Amber wasn't a victim. The dead guy was. What is wrong with yall? Keep believing this nonsense and you will end up like Amber. Don't rush into someone else's home and shoot them without cause, and you wont get Ambered. If Kyle was a home with his parents where he should of been, he would not have had to live through that. That being said, what he did was not murder. It was self defense. You can't claim self defense and you busted in the wrong door. Is this really that hard to separate. Her actions got her slammed, not her freaking words. She fucked up. And didn't give two shots about either until she realized she had no good defense to go on and them charges came. If you carry a gun, the most valuable information is to "think" before you get that finger on the trigger. You also have to accept you may be in front of a grand jury. So make sure it is your place before you go kicking in the door.
Much like my spare tire, fire extinguisher, and tow strap, I take considerable steps to prevent ever needing to use them, but I always want them with me! I'm sure she never expected to end up in that situation, but sometimes the truth takes a back seat to public opinion, and anyone can end up getting Rittenhouse'd.

As a new gun owner (year and a half), I've been drowning myself in learning everything I can with all of this... and this is the first time I heard this from this standpoint. Everywhere else say it's "shoot to kill", and that never sat right with me.

Regarding the long term effects of your defensive shooting. Never discuss them. Simply discuss the shooting and the necessity to protect/defend/stop. First because it is not your concern, second because modern surgery + rehab can accomplish miracles. People can be paralyzed and walk again.

I remember a police officer telling me a few things.... if someone ever askes you if you carry a knife, just say no... it is a multi purpose tool. If someone asks you if you carry a gun just say, I carry a life preserving tool. If you ever have to shoot someone and the court asks "did you shoot that person?", say "I shot to preserve and protect life."

I can’t wait for this. I took a Texas LTC class. The main objective of the concealed carrier is shoot to stop the threat not necessarily to kill. If the threat died due to untreated gun shot wounds then it is more of a secondary effect of stopping the threat. Intention is very important. Moderation in the use of lethal force is very important.

Massad is an excellent source of knowledge and he provides complete information, based on pure experience. This gentleman did not read it in a book, he lived it. I could spend a year with him and not learn enough. Thank you brother, this one was invaluable for everyone.
As a firearms owner for many years and a huge 2nd amendment advocate I can say this is very good advice. Time and time again I see people in forums, on RUclips and even in person say things that really make gun owners look bad. They give those that oppose the 2nd Amendment reason to hate all of us and I can't for the life of me understand why they do this. As a gun owner I will be honest, I don't like many fellow gun owners because of their attitude and approach they have on many topics relating to firearms. Maybe that's why I normally keep to myself at the shooting range and go during off times, this way I can avoid these tacticool morons.
Never go anywhere with a gun that you wouldn’t go to without one. Alcohol and firearms don’t mix. If you are uncomfortable patronizing an establishment or event where alcohol flows freely without your firearm I refer you back to step one. NEVER, EVER, EVER get involved in a 3rd party shooting. EVER! Never has a stranger existed that is worth you potentially spending the rest of your life in prison for if something were to go horribly wrong and you shoot an innocent bystander. Collateral damage only works for the military. If if ain’t your circus it ain’t your monkeys. I carry a gun for ONE reason. Because I’m too young to die and too old to take an ass beating. If you’re out there with an attitude that you’re going to be savior of the universe you do so at your own peril. Follow this advice and the only time you’ll ever pull your gun will be at the firing range.

The gun I carry for the most part is for protection from 4 legged creatures because I like to wander around remote places to fish for trout. I had a few times when bears got a little closer than I like, luck they just walked off. A moose chased me up a tree, lucky for me since it's a lot of work to deal with a moose by yourself, been there and done that too. You are right words mean things, we carry to stop a threat to our physical selves and others. Thou I am inclined in today's environment to get out of Dodge first.

Great video. I've learned a small amount from my own dealings with the police(just in regards to being attacked on the street by some thug and having to knock him out..this happened twice actually. Good thing I've been training muay thai for many years now..and jiu jitsu before that) that how you present yourself, how you phrase your words, means everything to them. And this is good to know. I conceal carry when I go into certain dangerous areas, but not all the time. Perhaps I should though. When you're dealing with more than one attacker, beating them down with your fists isnt really the best way to do it, let alone the safest way. And more than 2 guys? Definitely gonna need a weapon.
Back in the 80's, as a young G.I. I remember buying the magazine "Guns & Ammo" and Massad Ayoob was a contributing writer. He wrote about this very subject even way back then, when he was in law enforcement in New England. It's always been at the forefront of my mind if I ever got involved in a self defense situation. Thanks Massad, after all these years. I also remember and article he wrote on how to gun proof your kids by teaching them how to do a safety check on any gun they encounter, including a gun at a friend's house if the friend displays it... we all know how those scenarios can end up.
There are no absolutes . Human beings , even sage'd professionals can act/reacted differently according to current conditions , even the state of mind of the defender if they encountered a personal stress event before hand and went to work upset. Too many variables in life . Maybe the best thing to remember is invoke your right to remain silent and say nothing to investigators until counsel is at your side.
Excellent video Mr. Ayoob. I was having this very discussion a while back and I was the only one that took the 'shoot to stop' side. My main reasoning was because of all the unknowns with who the threat is coming from. Your legal exposure argument is even more compelling. I knew I was right!
I watched the assistant DA in the Rittenhouse trial try so desperately to get Kyle to fall into this trap. With so many zealots within our justice system, you cannot afford to give anyone any reason to question as to why you shot.
Thank you for sharing these videos. Watching and listening to these videos, the lessons make perfect sense. However, without a way to practice what is being taught, in a panic situation, I believe I may make mistakes. I was raised to always be up front and honest, but sometimes what I view as telling a truth may in fact be used against me. Do you have any suggestions on how my family members and I can safely practice these lessons so that they become a habit?

Thank You so much for this video. it clarified something I was unable to make sense of for most of my life. I stopped carrying for a long time because my grandfather always said that awful phrase, "shoot to kill," and I've never want to kill or harm anyone. But I will do anything to protect my loved ones and an otherwise peaceful way of life.
Fantastic concept, you own a gun not to harm anyone, you own it to rescue yourself from a life threatening situation. Only thing is if police officer will like your answer in a traffic stop and ask you "do you have a weapon ?"
When I was recovering from Covid, I was having an especially weak & tiresome day. I drove to the 4th floor of my parking garage, walked down the hallway of my condominium, arrived at “my” unit, and began to tap my keycard. It wouldn’t work. After tapping and shaking the handle multiple times, I realized I was on the wrong floor. I was 505 not 405. I’m also a CC holder. I was lucky no one was home. I’m not sure what I would have done if the door had been ajar but at one time I thought: who could ever confuse where one lives?
I was tired and exited a store with a handful & a mobilephone talk ongoing. I not only opened the wrong type vehicle door; I actually & practically set down into an Elderly ladies lap the best I could try until I heard different voices & looked in front of where I was trying to find seat & there was my son in the passenger seat of my vehicle rolling over laughing! Oh 💩🙈 The object keeping me from setting down screamed out... do something! The vehicle then stopped running & keys started jingling around. So where mine and me. Her husband was going for the locked glovebox. I'm about half Paralyzed Individual, thank god for endorphins!. I haven't moved nor left a parking lot that fast since & had to stop my son from choking to death laughing about a mile down the road. I didn't sleep that night.

It's hard to feel bad for guyger. Even if her version of events are true, only she knows that for sure, her careless actions led to another person's death, in his own home no less.
And she was a cop too they should be held to a higher standard than the average Joe I would say she deserved the murder charge no matter if she shot to kill or not.
More importantly than saying the right thing, is feeling the right thing. I desire to take the life of no other human being. I would only shoot to stop the threat because that is what I genuinely feel. No matter who I had to shoot to save my life or the lives of those I love, the burden on my heart that I took a father, son, daughter or anyone away from someone else would linger with me for the rest of my life. If you plan on stating this verbatim after a self defense shooting, I not a lawyer would not recommend it! A prosecutor could use it a pre-meditation. I make this statement now, after watching the potter trial, tazer tazer tazer it was a Glock. I can clearly state that her whole testimony was the exact line of thought as your paragraph, it didn’t work for her. I believe she has a good claim for appeal, but appeals are, Are ,ARE dam near impossible to achieve and it will come down not to absolute facts of the trial, but a failure to define the jury instructions that could set her free.

I noticed this in the Rittenhouse trial, when the prosecutor, on cross, said to Kyle, "You intended to kill him, didn't you?" Kyle replied, "No, I intended to stop the threat."

He was putting out a literal dumpster fire that nearly blew up a gas station and potentially napalm people. And he had no duty to retreat yet did so multiple times, was attacked multiple times by people with no business pursuing him, and two of them died for it, and the third was neutralized by a shot to the forearm and thus Kyle STOPPED the threat and proceeded to get the hell out of there.

It is not new information. He has been saying exactly the same thing for decades. It is common sense to me, but common sense comes from a common experience. When I swung on someone in a fight, I was doing it to defend myself; not to "beat" them. I did not and do not believe anyone "wins" a fight. Some lose less than others.

This topic is interesting to me. It’s so layered in lawyer that for the average individuals it’s impossible to decipher. Shooting in self defense. By shooting someone you have acknowledged the fact the individual may die, in order to (100%) stop a threat, the threat must be rendered incapable of movement. A wounding shot doesn’t promise a reduction of threat. We shoot knowing what the outcome could be fatal, but we verbally express that (stoping the threat) is the goal. It’s a perversion of law. I don’t have to change the (action) to find someone guilty of manslaughter, I’ll just change language of the (action). In my eyes this is the ending of second amendment.
In reality, all carriers of firearms should already have this mentality, but sadly, much needs to be corrected in the community

What do you say to the 911 dispatcher when they ask what happened after you had to use your gun in self-defense to stop a threat on your life? (In the sense to not potentially incriminate yourself) Can those dispatch recordings be used in court against you to expose potentially incriminating evidence by the prosecution?

This is coming from a resident of NYC, just acquired my R/S permit along with my CCW. I will continue to learn and do my part to show others that gun ownership is not only a right but a responsibility we should all take seriously.
When you take the ccw class they teach you the different phrases among many other things. Even if you never own a gun the class is worth taking.
In October 1994 I stopped a home invasion in my home in the nicest neighborhood of Greenville, SC. I stopped the threat with a gun I kept in my nightstand. I did not kill the assailant. During the lead up to the trial and even after the trial the Judge asked my in chambers why I did not kill the assailant. My answer was simple; I did not have to. I was able to stop the threat short of lethal force. Another aspect of shooting to stop the threat rather than shooting to kill, is that it is easy to kill a person. It is much harder to deal with it afterward. Your life is forever changed when you kill someone. I speak from having 77 confirmed kills in Vietnam. Furthermore, killing someone in your own home carries with it another level of complications. Though I did not kill the assailant, we were no longer comfortable in the house, and within three months we had moved. I believe the scenario you have laid out is the correct one. Shoot to stop the threat, not to kill. Great video.

@@percyfaith11 I had a similar problem, but no firearms invoked. Cops will say, "one guy goes to the hospital and the other guy goes to jail". Judge and DA refused to drop the case. Excessive force is a hard case to defend.

This is oure nonsense. Amber G. went to jail because she busted into a home that did not belong to her and killed the man inside. Then she didn't even try to save him. How in the world is that terrible mistake not punishable by prison? If I made the mistake, or you did, we would have met the same fate. Shortly after 9/11 living in Atlanta Ga area I went down and got my CC permit. I carried daily, everywhere, until we were finally brought off condition red. I bought your book..In the Gravest Extreme.. It was outstanding, it open my eyes to a lot of foolish notions I had about armed defense, and how wrong I was. Based around multiple statistics, recorded events, and records listed in that book, I developed the proper mindset needed, if indeed, I actually needed to pull and use my weapon. Without reading it, I am sure I would have ended up on the wrong side of the statistics with my original notions and Ideas of self protection. The book served me well, and I have turned many to it. One of the most important things I took away was, once I reveal the gun, the trigger is to be pulled immediately. If you can't do that in confidence, then you need to learn when and why you can. If you own a gun, then you need to consume every morsel of information you can get when it comes to protecting yourself in a court of law, especially in the wake of a shooting - Massad Ayoob’s videos & books are absolutely essential.
As a corrections officer I was always taught to "shoot center mass and shoot to stop". I love how all of the armchair quarterbacks say, "shoot him in the leg (or arm)." Real life is different.

I'd say he explained the reasoning for that perfectly. Why would you use deadly force against someone if your life was in so little jeopardy that you shot them in the leg.
Shooting at center mass is shoot to kill no matter if you say it wss shoot to stop! If you shot 10,000 people at center mass and all 10,000 died as the result of it, then shoot to stop is the same as shoot to kill no matter what you say in court. Sure, words matter but if shoot to stop has the exact same outcome as shoot to kill, then it is equivalent!!!

This point of view has never been expressed in the few defense courses I've taken. Instructors have always said "shoot to kill" when in a situation that you can not get out of any other way. To be fair, they have always recommended doing whatever is practical to avoid a confrontation. I'll watch for this at the next class I take, and if not mentioned, I'll bring it up.

Was just having this discussion with a friend, told her do NOT shoot to wound (shoot in leg ect) because some DA will be like "well you took the time to aim at a smaller target, so you must not of been in immediate danger ect"

I tell people this when they try that argument. If you are not shooting for the largest target (torso), and aiming for a smaller target at a place that is less likely to stop the threat, then you didn't feel that your life was in danger and therefore it's not a justifiable shooting

Nashville Metro Police say the same but then we got to watch more than 10 officers empty their high capacity magazines into a suspect whom they *thought* was armed. The suspect did goad them into drawing their weapons but it doesn't take over 100 rounds to stop a human. Funny how untrained citizens are held to a higher degree in a court of law than a highly trained police force.

@@BlackDotPatrick Actually, I watched a rather lengthy video where Massad addresses this very topic, and he does not agree with you. 1) He attacked me (or whatever). 2) I feared for my life. 3) give a bare minimum description of what happened - but don't sign a statement and don't answer questions 4) say I will cooperate, but I need a few days to compose myself (and speak with counsel). 5) Point out any evidence and witnesses.
And always, always, always - by the first one to call 911. Always have a phone. There is more to the video - it is worth seeing.

When I went through the academy during the legal part we had a deputy state attorney tell us that if we ever had to shoot someone in the line of duty or otherwise never to say I shot to kill, but instead say I shot to stop, as there is a legal difference and can mean the difference between being free or serving time.
Sir you are an American icon. Your guidance is spoken simply, effectively and directly. I have learned more about how to respond in the event of life threatening violence and teh aftermath from you than anyone else.

Excellent points here. I remember watching that trial and when she said “yes” I cringed as well. I thought, I just couldn’t believe that she would actually say that. 🤦♂️. As a new gun owner (year and a half), I've been drowning myself in learning everything I can with all of this... and this is the first time I heard this from this standpoint. Everywhere else say it's "shoot to kill", and that never sat right with me.

Regarding the long term effects of your defensive shooting. Never discuss them. Simply discuss the shooting and the necessity to protect/defend/stop.
First because it is not your concern, second because modern surgery + rehab can accomplish miracles. People can be paralyzed and walk again.

I remember a police officer telling me a few things....
if someone ever askes you if you carry a knife, just say no... it is a multi purpose tool.
If someone asks you if you carry a gun just say, I carry a life preserving tool.
If you ever have to shoot someone and the court asks "did you shoot that person?", say "I shot to preserve and protect life."
See-through BS. Cops aren't that smart. Say no you don't carry a knife so they can hold up a knife in court and say you don't carry this?? lol

I can’t wait for this. I took a Texas LTC class. The main objective of the concealed carrier is shoot to stop the threat not necessarily to kill. If the threat died due to untreated gun shot wounds then it is more of a secondary effect of stopping the threat. Intention is very important. Moderation in the use of lethal force is very important.

funny because I took one of those classes and I was told essentially to mag dump, because that's literally what police do on active threats.

As a firearms owner for many years and a huge 2nd amendment advocate I can say this is very good advice. Time and time again I see people in forums, on RUclips and even in person say things that really make gun owners look bad. They give those that oppose the 2nd Amendment reason to hate all of us and I can't for the life of me understand why they do this. As a gun owner I will be honest, I don't like many fellow gun owners because of their attitude and approach they have on many topics relating to firearms. Maybe that's why I normally keep to myself at the shooting range and go during off times, this way I can avoid these tacticool morons.
Never go anywhere with a gun that you wouldn’t go to without one.
Alcohol and firearms don’t mix. If you are uncomfortable patronizing an establishment or event where alcohol flows freely without your firearm I refer you back to step one.
NEVER, EVER, EVER get involved in a 3rd party shooting. EVER! Never has a stranger existed that is worth you potentially spending the rest of your life in prison for if something were to go horribly wrong and you shoot an innocent bystander. Collateral damage only works for the military. If if ain’t your circus it ain’t your monkeys.
I carry a gun for ONE reason. Because I’m too young to die and too old to take an ass beating. If you’re out there with an attitude that you’re going to be savior of the universe you do so at your own peril.
Follow this advice and the only time you’ll ever pull your gun will be at the firing range.

The gun I carry for the most part is for protection from 4 legged creatures because I like to wander around remote places to fish for trout. I had a few times when bears got a little closer than I like, luck they just walked off. A moose chased me up a tree, lucky for me since it's a lot of work to deal with a moose by yourself, been there and done that too. You are right words mean things, we carry to stop a threat to our physical selves and others. Thou I am inclined in today's environment to get out of Dodge first.
I would rather get mauled to death than deal with the legal repercussions of killing a bear

Well, after watching only two videos, having found the first one without looking for it, your wisdom and advice is so astounding, I subscribed and rang the bell. A wealth of knowledge and advice here. The reasoning for "Shoot to Stop" makes is crystal clear point. I watched it twice to better capture and retain both points. Thank you!
Great video. I've learned a small amount from my own dealings with the police(just in regards to being attacked on the street by some thug and having to knock him out..this happened twice actually. Good thing I've been training muay thai for many years now..and jiu jitsu before that) that how you present yourself, how you phrase your words, means everything to them.
And this is good to know. I conceal carry when I go into certain dangerous areas, but not all the time. Perhaps I should though. When you're dealing with more than one attacker, beating them down with your fists isnt really the best way to do it, let alone the safest way. And more than 2 guys? Definitely gonna need a weapon.
Back in the 80's, as a young G.I. I remember buying the magazine "Guns & Ammo" and Massad Ayoob was a contributing writer. He wrote about this very subject even way back then, when he was in law enforcement in New England. It's always been at the forefront of my mind if I ever got involved in a self defense situation. Thanks Massad, after all these years.
I also remember and article he wrote on how to gun proof your kids by teaching them how to do a safety check on any gun they encounter, including a gun at a friend's house if the friend displays it... we all know how those scenarios can end up.
I've heard that "Would you?. . ." question quite a bit. Finally I answered "I shoot to live". Usually questions end at that point.
There are no absolutes . Human beings , even sage'd professionals can act/reacted differently according to current conditions , even the state of mind of the defender if they encountered a personal stress event before hand and went to work upset. Too many variables in life . Maybe the best thing to remember is invoke your right to remain silent and say nothing to investigators until counsel is at your side.
A very important fact; all law enforcement officers carry voice recorders. Once you say something, it goes on record
Excellent video Mr. Ayoob. I was having this very discussion a while back and I was the only one that took the 'shoot to stop' side. My main reasoning was because of all the unknowns with who the threat is coming from. Your legal exposure argument is even more compelling. I knew I was right!

I watched the assistant DA in the Rittenhouse trial try so desperately to get Kyle to fall into this trap. With so many zealots within our justice system, you cannot afford to give anyone any reason to question as to why you shot.

However, without a way to practice what is being taught, in a panic situation, I believe I may make mistakes. I was raised to always be up front and honest, but sometimes what I view as telling a truth may in fact be used against me. Do you have any suggestions on how my family members and I can safely practice these lessons so that they become a habit?

Society demands some payment for that. Geiger f'ed up. Her "mistake" cost an innocent man his life. She must pay. If she was acquitted of all charges, that itself would be a miscarriage of justice.

Thank You so much for this video. it clarified something I was unable to make sense of for most of my life. I stopped carrying for a long time because my grandfather always said that awful phrase, "shoot to kill," and I've never want to kill or harm anyone. But I will do anything to protect my loved ones and an otherwise peaceful way of life.
Ive talked to lawyers who cringe when I tell them I carry. This is far and above what they were afraid to express .
I like that phrase for your defensive firearm, “emergency safety rescue equipment,” as it must be.
Fantastic concept, you own a gun not to harm anyone, you own it to rescue yourself from a life threatening situation. Only thing is if police officer will like your answer in a traffic stop and ask you "do you have a weapon ?"
When I was recovering from Covid, I was having an especially weak & tiresome day. I drove to the 4th floor of my parking garage, walked down the hallway of my condominium, arrived at “my” unit, and began to tap my keycard. It wouldn’t work. After tapping and shaking the handle multiple times, I realized I was on the wrong floor. I was 505 not 405. I’m also a CC holder. I was lucky no one was home. I’m not sure what I would have done if the door had been ajar but at one time I thought: who could ever confuse where one lives?
I was tired and exited a store with a handful & a mobilephone talk ongoing. I not only opened the wrong type vehicle door; I actually & practically set down into an Elderly ladies lap the best I could try until I heard different voices & looked in front of where I was trying to find seat & there was my son in the passenger seat of my vehicle rolling over laughing! Oh 💩🙈
The object keeping me from setting down screamed out... do something! The vehicle then stopped running & keys started jingling around. So where mine and me. Her husband was going for the locked glovebox. I'm about half Paralyzed Individual, thank god for endorphins!. I haven't moved nor left a parking lot that fast since & had to stop my son from choking to death laughing about a mile down the road. I didn't sleep that night.
If you admit you are not sure how you would have react, and feel yourself lucky, you should probably consider not to carry.

@@UncleKennysPlace with the Injuries and pain of walking I have I'd ride with them if I didn't have a choice. I'm uncertain about how bones and spinalcord Injuries your suffering from,however prayers for you that you live to see more of those if needed. Hopefully walking & setting or standing upright feels good to you even if so painful that Methadone doesn't stop the pain completely. When that's happening an individual who doesn't abuse they're prescribed medication knows their limitations. Are you familiar?

It's hard to feel bad for guyger. Even if her version of events are true, only she knows that for sure, her careless actions led to another person's death, in his own home no less.

And she was a cop too they should be held to a higher standard than the average Joe I would say she deserved the murder charge no matter if she shot to kill or not.
More importantly than saying the right thing, is feeling the right thing. I desire to take the life of no other human being. I would only shoot to stop the threat because that is what I genuinely feel. No matter who I had to shoot to save my life or the lives of those I love, the burden on my heart that I took a father, son, daughter or anyone away from someone else would linger with me for the rest of my life.
Internalize the words "I shot to stop the threat" until it becomes a part of who you are, not only because it is legal, but because it is moral. Don't just say the words, feel the words!

If you plan on stating this verbatim after a self defense shooting, I not a lawyer would not recommend it! A prosecutor could use it a pre-meditation. So you are knowingly training to take the life of a father, son, daughter? Anything you say (will be used against you in a court of law). I do understand where your coming from and it’s a good place with good intentions, but let a lawyer (form) your argument. Use small words, in small sentences and don’t add words. I was in fear for my life, I would like to see my lawyer, name and social security number, I invoke my 5th amendment and then don’t speak. Especially about your day.
I make this statement now, after watching the potter trial, tazer tazer tazer it was a Glock. I can clearly state that her whole testimony was the exact line of thought as your paragraph, it didn’t work for her. I believe she has a good claim for appeal, but appeals are, Are ,ARE dam near impossible to achieve and it will come down not to absolute facts of the trial, but a failure to define the jury instructions that could set her free.
I’ve read almost all of the comments on this video and I think everyone understands the basics the 101 class it’s the 102 class most haven’t progressed to. People in the chat clearly state they understand, but I don’t think they (get it) not quite yet. It’s really time to push these people a little further in the legal laws.
