How depressing. I remember this mall being so busy. I once lost where I parked my car there. I miss Boston Store, Gimbels and Marshall Fields. I loved the Linden room at Marshall Fields in Mayfair mall.
I spent nearly 25 years working in Malls from 73 to around 96. I think Southridge has a good fighting chance of making it and the mere fact that people are there and the many stores are there give hope. Nice video
I live in Hales Corners WI just less than 4.5miles away from Southridge Mall I think it is AWSOME PLACE TO GO TO!!!!!!! For all the people who think this MALL is not great think agin it is next to (4 Wal-Mart Stores)(4 Target Stores) & (2 Meijer Stores) all under 5.0miles away from Southridge!!!!!!😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Certainly a modern version of Northridge Mall. Thanks for revisiting this mall.
Except northride is nothing but ruins
@@NoFearVRJust explored northridge on my page. So depressing.
I’m glad videos like this exist! It’s great pairing this up with the Northridge videos. The two were once remarkably similar, and you can really see how Southridge shows a parallel universe where Northridge never closed!
I really liked seeing this mall when I went to Milwaukee last month, it’s not doing that bad.
I was a pre-teen when it opened. I would walk down 75th street there with my friends to hang out and shop. I have moved away but the early years have such memories. Thanks for sharing.
I honestly like Southridge Mall. It's our local neighborhood mall, so I truly do not think it that it should get demolished for decades to come. There should be new tenants to open up businesses in the mall. Those businesses could be a new Barns & Noble Booksellers on the 76th street side of the mall, where Boston store used to be. And truly think that in the back of the mall, could become any store like a nice home store, and any good quality furniture store, in the former Kohl's space on either level as well.
Me too Doomie, I am definitely NOT A FAN of the Modern Contemporary style of malls either. I totally prefer vintage malls or modern malls that have lots of creativity with colour and the interior and exterior design.
It may not be spectacular, but it's very clean and has a nice atmosphere. I was there last Saturday afternoon and it was busy with quite a few shoppers. Very encouraging to see.
I actually don't mind the modern interior as it still has some hints of the original. It looks like this mall might actually have a chance to survive and grow going forward, and ironically I think the new Macy's could keep it from going under, as well as the Round 1 and Dick's.
The mall looks like you said, it has a fighting chance of surviving. Not every mall is going to be gone, we just had way to many malls everywhere and the strongest survive. There are a number of those roll around stands that sell everything from sun glasses to remodeling companies bathtubs. A weak mall doesn't have them anymore, as they can move on if there isn't enough foot traffic. Great work Doomie, I like how you revisit some malls if you feel there is good cause to see the mall again.
It’s nice to see malls somewhat thrive in this day and age. The mall should remain in place and updated with the latest trends. I did notice there were some big box stores outside the enclosed part of the mall which helps keep it alive. With Northridge gone, they need to keep this mall alive. Maybe add some entertainment and nice restaurants for daytime and evening enjoyment? However, since the mall is so generic, it could be anywhere in the US. It seems like all malls in the US have the same exact token stores like JCPenney, Spencer’s Gifts, Macy*s, etc.
Seems like a nice mall and it seems like it's doing well. Taubman malls are always some of the best.
3 things wrong with Southridge: expensive rent, weekend or holiday traffic, and the bus stops outside of the mall property making customers have to walk a distance to the mall
I love taubman designed malls with a passion. Really cool how this Macy’s is a newer store too, pretty sure they stopped opening full-line in 2017-18
Yep most mall companies have impressive architecture (even Hull surprisingly made the Victoria Mall in TX pretty nice)
I love these Taubman designs too. Just so beautiful. It's all about the ceiling treatment.
I think it's a great mall and I hope it continues to survive and thrive.
That Macy's opened in 2011.
Having been here around my birthday last year I loved this place. The nerdy store in the former Disney store was cool. That Mexican place you showed in the beginning was good and the MadChicken was excellent too. I went to the one in Mayfair Mall. The Macy's looked nice as well and I fell in love with the Round1. Southridge was one of my favorite out of state malls I ever been to.
I'm going there today. First time in decades. I hope the food court is good ! Planning on seeing a movie.
Maybe some more restaurants would be nice. They have a Cheesecake Factory at Mayfair would be nice to see Southridge get one too.
I wonder why the fountains were taken out in the first place?
My only guess would be money.
I wonder if the cold, corporate and stark appearance and feeling of modern malls is the way to go? Has anybody tried to make a mall more cozy with more "people" feel? Smaller stores but unique? A wild thought I guess.
If you ever need it for the future: Pranges…kind of like the word “rang” with an “es” at the end. Long “E” sound.
I remember that mall alot as my parents & I used to go there from time to time.
Good video. Thanks.
It looks like a thriving mall. It’s too bad its sister mall Northridge closed in 2003, 21 years ago. I don’t like the modern mall look but every mall looks like that now. It’s great to finally see a thriving mall! There are still a few out there.
I wish I had noticed that hallway with vintage pics of Southridge, when I visited here in the past. I also remember Arby's used to be in its food court, but has closed since I was here in the 2010s. And I really like that HOME- Burning song you used, here!
So many of the recognizable chain restaurants are gone. It’s all these restaurants I’ve never heard of. But not really in a good way.
Once the Disney Store closed, there was really no reason for me to ever visit Southridge again. I was last there right before Covid and it felt so empty.
I do looove those pictures in the hallway though.
Go to the places where they fist flames near electronic stairs, the worst you could take your phone to get fixed
Woww I went there yesterday it was great
Once they got rid up the slumlord owner,it has been uphill for this mall.
Northridge was our mall nut when it closed I went to Southridge. Sears purchased KMart and thwy bothe went online and Boston Stores went bankrupt and closed
Doomie, I can detect a Trammell Starks track played anywhere.
I feel like destiny usa would be a good revisit, your video was before covid so now the mall has a lot of empty anchors and regular stores
Simon must arrange its financing so that it can let a mall go into foreclosure or jingle mail to back to the lender without suffering any consequences.
Round 1 sure loves bargain basement malls to setup shop.
Its way better then mall in my city wow i want go there 😁😁
Awesome video! When did you record this walk?
Beautiful mall. Hopefully it survives??
Looks like a nice mall though they have a few vacancies
Do the dalton mall located in dalton, ga for an upcoming video, would really enjoy it!
My dad worked for maintenance in that mall and also worked for the McDonald's in that very same mall. Not sure if that McDonald's even exists anymore.
5:43 Caution, that's probably a corridor to the backrooms!
I've been in the backrooms of Northridge once. It is easy to get lost back there.
@@DoomieGruntVentures Cool, did you meet any entities?
I was in milwaukee in 81 from uk I went to a j c penneys is it still open
I’m almost looks like the Northridge mall
Does this look like Wisconsin?
Is this where dahmer stole a mannequin?
Cute
still a very pretty mall unlike it's sister, and yeah Simon's modernization is really boring.
No more wearing face masks anymore just came to end
Have you believed the gospel? The gospel is that Jesus died on the cross for your sins was buried and rose again the third day
