Next time you're in the Triangle area, you should hit up North Hills. North Hills Mall in Raleigh was a dead mall back in the early 2000s (Crabtree Mall crushed it) and most of it was demolished and the area was turned into a posh retail area. It would be interesting to show what can be created out of the ruins of a formerly dead mall.

My girl and I took a long weekend trip to Raleigh-Durham to hit up some more malls from your channel. This was one of the two dead ones we chose. Yes, it's still closed but worth a visit to snag a few pics of what once was a decent mall. I'll comment on the others we visited as well. Thanks again for doing your Doomie thing!

The tarps and construction have been there for years. They demolished part of the indoor wing to the Belk/movie theater to create an outdoor lifestyle area in the mid 2000s and construction was left incomplete as they never signed new tenants.

I worked at Measurement Inc back in 2017, which took over a huge part of the mall a year or so prior. We scored English essays. Not a bad gig. I remember taking my lunch break to walk to the food court, eat the terrible pizza, then hurrying down to a sort of FYE knockoff store to buy Yugioh cards. Never got anything good from those booster packs lol. I remember finding the weird basement area, that was only accessible from an unmarked door across from the Robotics store. There was a whole basement level with no one in it. Got lost in there with a buddy during a lunch break and got in trouble for coming back to work late lol Good times. Not a great mall by any means, but even a small, boring, rundown mall can have some good memories attached to it. It's sad to see so many of these malls go.

So sad... Interestingly, my local mall (Del Amo Mall, Torrance, CA) had three different pretzel places (it was a long mall!), and the first smell that hit you when you walked in was, of course, pretzels! Later on, an independent little candy store moved in, and they featured hand-dipped, buttery-caramel apples, as well as fresh-made caramel popcorn (dang! where's my "drooling" emoji when I need it!), and it wasn't long before THAT was the dominant smell at good old Del Amo, which is STILL somehow 100% full and going strong on this 2nd of August 2019 -- oh, and STILL smelling of buttery caramel, BTW!
Thanks for another wonderful video, Doomster!!

@@orzo4301 They had some rough times for a while there, most notably the closure of the Monty Ward's anchor -- the space for which is now a new, open air food court, with a large, multi-screen theater anchor there to hold everything in place -- and the "bridge" over Torrance Blvd (that linked the former Del Amo Center to the Del Amo Mall), which was at one time full of shops has recently had trouble keeping them filled of late. Beyond that, it's still a pretty robust place, with lots of memories for me from the 1970's & 80's. I worked at Wherehouse Records there for a few years; the mall was busy and we had a lot of fun, as the customers were almost all younger and very friendly. Sadly, WHerehouse got eaten by FYI, and we all know what's been happening to THEM! (Sorry for the novel, All...)

Are you going to check out New Bern Mall in New Bern, NC? From 1979-2007, it was known as Twin Rivers Mall and at one point in the late 1990's and the early 2000's - they had two Chick-Fil-A's - One inside the Mall and the other one right outside the mall - adjacent to Belk's. The one outside the mall is still in business. It had a K-Mart in the back of the mall until the late 1990's and the remaining tenants IIRC are Belk's, JCPenney, Annabelle''s and Big Apple Pizza. It looks nice with a additional carpet.

You kind of glossed over the carousel. What's become of the carousel? Apparently it's in storage awaiting the mall's new owners' future plans (although apparently Island Carousel of Florida is working with Bull City Inflatables to keep it in Durham).

Thing is with time life progressed the downfall of these big malls were online shopping and outlet malls where you go direct to a store you want instead of walking around forever. But now even some outlets are going down hill.

I remember I used to work at the sears there several years back. You wouldn’t think that they would be closing down at the time cause the business there was booming especially during the holiday seasons but now they’re defunct. Had many good memories there cause it was my first job and I was a freshman in college. The times where I would take my break and hangout with some of my coworkers at the food court. It ain’t no south point but I’ll miss that mall

This breaks my heart to see. I lived in Durham in the early 2000s as a young kid. I remember going into this mall every weekend buying Pokemon cards and playing in the Yugioh tournaments they had here -- in the card/game store beside the Sears. If anyone remembers the name of this store, could you please share it with me. I would have loved to travel back here to visit once more and walk through the mall but this is as close as I'll get to do so.

Doomie Grunt - Dead Malls & Derelict Digs yeah that’s always been a little bit of a downer. I treat Wetzels like a delicacy sense they only seem to have one location (that I’ve come across) in my state. It’s in downtown Salt Lake at a shopping center called City Creek. I’m hardly ever down there so when I am I always stop by.
