I am very thankful that in the last years of his life, Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim changed from being competitors to collaborators. I feel thankful that Mr. Smith gave Oberheim a forum in which to re-acquire his own brand and return to manufacturing synthesizers under that brand.
Tom Oberheim for president
It'd be far better than what we've got.
No doubt
@@_EightySix100%. And Marcus Ryle can be his VP
Prince for Vice President
Came for the synth and stayed for the discourse
That‘s how you introduce a synth! :)
Fingers crossed for a desktop version!
Finally, a new Obie I can actually afford.
I've been waiting for a synth like this. The Oberheim sound + DSI / Sequential style engine = the sonic flexibility is going to be huge. Thanks!
we eagerly await your demo and patches
oh hell yeah that animated oberheim logo
Just played it at SuperBooth.. it’s solid! Built great.. sounds good.
Awesome! The SEM filter is sounding spot-on!
Phew - almost bought a UB-XA
A beautiful instrument now is more affordable for people who could only dream.
Thx Tom, many will rejoice.
1K5 usd isnt affordable for 90% of the people out there let's not kid ourselves
@@hadrien5697
Just for people with reading comprehension issues.
*now is more affordable for people who could only dream*
Given an OBX8 is 5K. I think my statement stands true.
@@hadrien5697 it's an instrument that can last a lifetime. it's wildly inexpensive compared to traditional acoustic instruments of its caliber, and every single previous oberheim released.
@@soupforare Which doesnt make it an "affordable" poly analog synth. And yes I am aware oberheim is overpriced and I am also aware a lot of instruments can cost way more. But in the whole "analog poly synth" category this is far from affordable.
@@hadrien5697 you really do suffer from reading comprehension.
this is fantastic, I honestly never expected to see an actual new Oberheim ever again, and then... i never expected an affordable one. very excited
Sounds great, finally a Oberheim synth for the broader audience :)
Congratulations to this fantastic synth in a small package, Oberheim
Very nice. Always good to see the pricetag cheaper for folks to venture into the world of the greatest synth manufacturer of all time.
What a great time period for synths
Will we get desktop/module versions of the TEO-5 or Take-5?
Sounds great. And what a fantastic demo track! 👍
Congrats! Awesome release!
I think i can't resist on this one....🥰
Ditto here.
looks great and sounds amazing!!
Cannot wait! Preordered been really excited for this release!!
Nice one , THE OBERHEIM TEO-5 looks amazing
Didn't even have to look to know Peter Dyer did the music.
thanks!
Thank you man! Big fan of your work
Beautiful
Great Synth, Top Demo!
Excited to hear those presets and time travel back 🌠💫
Love everything about this… much love and super salutations to the great Tom Oberheim 🤍🎹👑🐐
It’s like my Mopho x4 Dave smith four octaves. I’ll for sure be getting this
Really hope to test this sometime in the future as I have some projects coming that could use the sounds of this wonderful synth!
Wonderful!
I’m excited and intrigued…
yoooooo oberheim take 5 lets go
Would be awesome if you could ''click'' two together. A 10 voice, 4 oscillator, dual SEM filter, 7 octave Oberheim for $3000 doesn't sound bad at all ;).
U can xD with a daw. And maybe another keyboard which controls both
Lovely
Suena hermoso 🎶
Great!
Wow 😍
最高すぎる…欲しすぎる!
I think I'll wait for the desktop version.
I been waiting for the Take 5 desktop too 👎
Please desktop module!
Looks and sounds great! Interesting keyboard length and starting point, 44 keys (3.7 octaves) F to C!
I want to hear sounds that could be played in today’s music or make great music either way
Great sounds, but €1699 in the EU. At least get it down to the Take 5's €1499?
thx god, I do not need to buy a UB-XA
Always wanted an Oberheim, not looked at the price yet as kinda scared to, but maybe this is the one.
1700 euros
@@Gjallarhorn84😱😱😱😱😱😖😖😖
@@Gjallarhorn84 "affordable"
@@hadrien5697 yeah according to Oberheim, but not surprising when you look at the take 5
Is good. 👍
nice
This goes so damn hard
looks like the sequential take5 ?
Use the same chassis, hence the T 5 moniker.
I wish I could put a faceplate similar to this on my OB-6 with the legends BELOW the knobs so I could actually read them.
Cool. Make a desktop module and I’d probably buy one.
That Tom is so hot right now 🔥
impressive!
Comes from Dr. Mix, recent knowing about this Synth.
Congrats. 👍
Sounds excellent. 5 voice poly isn't enough though. At least 8 if not 12. Big chords need big polyphony.
Not on a synth that sounds so huge
Maybe for you. I think if one is playing 3 notes in the right hand they might already be hosed depending on how many voices are needed per note. If it is two voices per note, you're done.
Even if you aren't, and can play the whole chord, you're going to have the tail being cut when you play the next chord. And that's not even including a bass note(s). It really just needs more poly.
What synth would you recommend instead of this one? @@Dooblecaine
That's purely up to personal taste, but I won't be getting a 5 voice synth.
@@Dooblecaine I heard the prophet-5 with 5 voices was ok
🙏🏻 Make a tutorial for this track 👏🏼
that could be fun!
When does it release?
Sweetwater's already got it for preorder.
@@cubdukat You know what you get from pre-ordering?
If I have an OB6, do I need this? The fact that it's an Oberheim not a collab with DSI makes me want it.
I do believe DSI still manufactures all Oberheim products. It's kind of a "don't ask, don't tell" sort of arrangement as far as I can tell. REALLY sad that this level of "deceit" has permeated our daily lives and has become commonplace.
It is a collab with all the same folks. DSI simply changed their name back to Sequential. One difference is that the OB6 was produced entirely with Dave's input while he was still alive.
@@skykoThere's no deceit at all going on here. They talk about working with the Sequential folks specifically on this and have been openly working together for years.
@@cortical1Ok, I'll change that to "misleading" then.
@@skyko There's nothing misleading about openly saying you made this synth with Sequential. It's on the website. It's in the interviews with Tom. It's in the printed brochures. 🤦🏻♂️
Man, I bought an OB6 a year ago, turns out it was the worst possible time...
Other than the mod matrix, this thing is basically just an OB-6 with less voices. Even filters are the same. Might as well call it an OB-4
@@bdotstanley Less keys, and some plastic in the construction I think? Some cool new features and effects though. Starsky Carr's analysis showed the oscillators on the Take/TEO have less high-end than the Prophet/OB Oscillators - if that matters.
@@AynsleyGreen Yeah I'm just talking at a high level... but you are correct in that the oscillators will perform slightly differently.
I guess I'm just confused by this product. If you're going to drop $1500 you might as well just be patient and save an extra thousand to get the real thing.
This product should just have 8/16 voices and 61 keys/module.
@@bdotstanley It has 5 voices, not 4.
Sounds great but why don´t it use the traditional Oberheim levers instead pitch/mod wheels?
Because it's superficial difference
Because they using the take 5 shell
@@reecedeyoung6595 cut it and put a box for the levers. It takes less space than the traditional wheels.
@@Agordon-vw9lx that's additionally manufacturing cost.
@@reecedeyoung6595 the metal sheet is blank and has to be cuted and drilled so it´s just do it different as they did with the Pro-3.
if you're going to use keys & not a module, at LEAST make it 4 full octaves. 5x voices I could maybe live with, but 3 1/2 octaves is absurd.
For twice the price?
OB-6 exists.
It took Oberheim four decades to finally understand the importance of producing affordable synthesizers for everyone and not only for the rich, they can't possibly keep their business model running for too long by competing with only one extremely expensive synthesizer in the merciless synth industry, literally every company have a vast range of gear of various prices from Moog to Sequential, and let's not talk about Behringer who honestly can compete with the big boys now, the TEO5 will explode Oberheim's sales and will sell like hot cakes, I just hope that this is not a slightly different Take5, can't wait for the reviews from Loopop, Daniel from Sweetwater, Nick from Sonicstate and Starsky Carr
How do you consider the Take 5? I don't know him well, this TEO 5 seems like a great synth to me
@@ToXball sold for 1700 euros, it's honestly overpriced for what it is
An analogy to your comment would apply if Ferrari decided to sell cheap cars or Rolex cheap watches just to “survive” compromising quality and lineage.
There is always going to be a market for people who can afford expensive stuff, but the business model is different.
Unfortunately quality and craftsmanship are expensive.
Look at the thriving guitar market with Gibsons selling for several thousands like hotcakes. Once you are done with your cheaper Epiphone you go and get the real thing.
thats not affordable.
@@edgardvera3132 your exemple doesn't apply here, Ferrari or Gibson have several types of cars and guitars to offer unlike Oberheim who have been selling the same one or two synths since decades, the T5 will be a game changer for them, it took them too long to understand unlike companies like Moog or Sequential who's always been producing quality and expensive gear and never stopped them to produce affordable synths of fantastic quality, whether you really don't get the point, or you defend Oberheim without knowing how the industry works nowadays, if you want to survive, better be inventive.
It’s got the classic sound… Unlike the OB6 this is the real deal… Finally compact and actually “it’s an Oberheim “!!!
Nonsense
Unlike the OB6 this is an analog/digital hybrid. No analog VCA's here.
@@kristiannordeide7175 the VCA and the mixer is analog, you confusing it with the take-5
@@untmlno I am not confusing it with the Take-5. It has the same ADC as the Take-5. After the filter the signal path is digital. I asked Oberheim customer service about this and they confirmed that the output section is "the same as the Take-5".
@@kristiannordeide7175 I asked them two, they never answered, i guess you are right.
Great, but why not 5 octave keyboard?
Becasue they used the already engineered chassis and most likely some of the internal processing of the Sequential Take 5 in order to save research and development costs and offer this for much cheaper than other Oberheim products. Taking a page out of Behringer's book (in a good way)
@@user-vf8cd8rt7u I see, but it's still an irritating thing for many of us.
@@M80- I think it is part of the strategy, Why make a flagship $4000-$5000 synth and then offer the same thing at practically nothing? Obviously you lose a few features here but if this thing was comparable to the X8 nobody would buy the X8. I suspect this is why it or the Take5 do not have modules as well.
@@irife2771 Understandable. I would prefer a cheaper module version of this, like the UB-Xa module from Behringer.
I mean it's just the Engine, why not just get a midi Controller if you need extra range?
Looks nice and all but when will you finally fix the firmware bugs in your Two Voice Pro? 8 years now with no updates or patches. Will customers for this new synth get the same shameful lack of support too? I’m sure it will have bugs too…
This instrument was made with Sequential so it will have a mature launch OS and long term support, luckily!
@@gosssssss I also own a PolyEvolver which has long since been abandoned by its makers despite a slew of unfortunate bugs never addressed. Changing hands from Oberheim to Sequential guarantees nothing. From my perspective all I see from both manufacturers is a long history of neglect and absentee landlordism if that a word. I admire the brilliant talent and dedication that went into these instruments but I feel that as long as they keep kicking the can down the road their support is total garbage and you’re better spending your money elsewhere. For example I have an instrument made by Gotherman which I found a fault with. After he reproduced the error and addressed it I received an OS update 24 hours later that corrected it. This is 24 hours compared to years with my TVP. i reported a fault with it to Tom Oberheim and he reproduced it and said it would be fixed in the next update which never came. That was 2016. The PolyEvolver was retailed in 2005 and is still broken…..
@@HollowPointNine DSI sent me pots and buttons for free (across the world) to repair my 20 years old heavily used desktop synth, I got a free editor for my poly evolver (buying it second hand, 15 years old synth!) They are always very responsive to any question and knowledgeable. From my experience Dave smith/Sequential have the best support in the business. What bugs in poly evolver are you referring to, I never encountered any.
Oberheim Teo-5
Well, it sure is tempting, but i already have my Ub-Xa with me which is phenomenal and has more voices.
I can see other advantageous sonic sound ideas from this🙌🏻🔥🎶
"it is tempting, but i will not support the actual Tom Oberheim, just use designs stolen from him"
i mean, sure, use whatever, but why say this? and why here? to make Tom feel worse about being cheated?
@@mastersoftoday Come on now, I have an OB-X8 and I love it but nothing was stolen here. In order to steal something it has to be illegally taken, that's what defines theft whether you like it or not. Tom couldn't even call his synths Oberheim if Behringer didn't give him the rights to. The OB-Xa design is open to whoever want's use it, legally. The patent long expired.
Also, did Tom say he feels cheated? If not, you probably shouldn't speak for him. According to your logic that's like stealing his voice.
@@EnervatedSociety i actually think theft is defined by ethics, not law. lots of things are technically legal (we live under capitalism, after all), but are shitty to do
@@mastersoftoday I'd say expiring patents are necessary, and for the greater good, but that's more than I want to get into in a comments section.
To be frank, your brand of ethics are tricky. Unfortunately you kinda have to be a hypocrite to enjoy the modern world and hold such views. It's a real have your cake and eat too, In perpetuity.
Just think about the services you're accessing now, Google, and how you're accessing it. The cost that makes that possible is a lot of human suffering. I'll leave it at that. Your curiosity, should you have it, will answer why if you don't know already. It's a dog eat dog world.
Sequential, Oberheim, Roland, et all, they operate by the same rules. No one is innocent, if you want to make a profit. They have good PR though.
BTW, Behringer donates a lot of these clones to less fortunate kids around the world. When the UB-Xa came out they dropped the price and asked people to donate the difference to one those charities, offering to match the money donated up to a million dollars.
@@EnervatedSociety for sure, I agree. good points, and i do think expiring patens are necessary - this isn’t about patents to me.
i just think that in a world full of grey areas, the way Behringer introduces new models to their lineup is pretty black and white, you know?
and i’m really glad Tom seems to be in business for good
The Oberheim for 2024 but only 5 voices? Come on... 6 is the minimum
Yes throw all 5 voice prophets on the garbage .. :)
Would love to hear a demo where all of the sounds don't sound so retro.
Try Inhalt’s demo
"Affordable"... 7 thousand pln
looks like only 6000pln ($1500) over here in the states
Nope. This time they mean it. It's 1500 bucks USD, around the same price as the Take-5 it seems to be based on.
What excatly means "affordable"?
Left hand wheels look nothing but "scaled down synth"... Halas!
I think its $1500... My OBXa costs more than that to get serviced sometimes. I think its pretty cheap.
"Oh shit, not enough people are buying the x8 because we waaaay over priced it based on the price of vintage gear instead of based on our actual cost and margins. Lets create a synth actually based on our cost and margins so it actually sells."
"We will make it slightly smaller to "justify" the price difference."
"Not enough people are buying the x8". Yeah right.
@justinbraun8003 You don’t sound bitter at all…
What? So you have access to the sales data for Sequential? What a narrow mind.
And this is still too expensive for 5 note polyphony. Should have been at least 8 note polyphonic. Sounds good though.
Classic Oberheim sound in a fully modern instrument which means that whatever bugs and faults it was shipped with will never be fixed just like with the PolyEvolver and the Two Voice Pro. Caveat Emptor. When you rent from absentee landlords you find yourself infested with vermin and a decaying property falling apart around you. Eventually you have no choice but to relocate. If you value your hard earned money make sure you do your homework before spending it. If you don’t care about your money or the hard work it came from then I have a glitchy PolyEvolver and a broken TVP for sale….
Neither will ever be updated to correct the faults though.
What bugs are you referring to? I don't remember any bug with my polyevolver. One of the best synths ever.
Is Oberheim = Behringer ?
Not even possible.
is you stupid?
