6.5 grendel I’ve had for years with a 416R barrel also 18”. Looove it! Mine does indeed prefer the 129 SST and I never need it to go beyond 400 yards, I need that little extra thump from the heavier round so the deer doesn’t run to someone else’s land.
There was one thing he didn't mention, and thats ammo costs. Its still possible to find brass case 6.5 Grendel for less than $1/round, and I have about 200 rounds of Wolf steel case that I picked up for $6.50/box back in 2019. Unfortunately its now around 75 cents/round for steel, but PPU brass is only about 85-90 cents.
@@RichardCranium321There are 124 factory rounds for 6.5 Grendel as of 2023. I took about an hour to check them all and update the list, including dropping all the discontinued loads, while adding the new loads.
@@jjw5165I shoot my 12" 6.5 Grendel out to 800 and 900yds regularly. I'm usually 1st or 2nd round connect at 780yds with 123gr ELD-M. I haven't missed the 780yd once with 110gr PPU, then made a 1st-round hit with it at 900yds.
I love the 6.5 Grendel for hunting, my kids use it for whitetail deer and I use it as a night time thermal gun for hogs and coyotes because I picked up several thousand rounds of the steel case stuff which is nice because you don’t have to worry about loosing brass. The 6 ARC is a good round also and I have it in a 16” AR as well as a 24” bolt gun which in my opinion is where it shines, especially with hand loads. Great video and content. Thank you
I'm pretty well ready to stick to the 6.5 Grendel. 6mm ARC looks great but, if I truly want to push harder for long range I'll just use the .300 Winchester Magnum and the .50 BMG. With the whole 50 rounds I put through my 20" 6.5 Grendel upper I appreciate how it groups and look forward to more range time when the upper issue of scoring and splitting cases is remedied. I only used 100 grain steel cased Wolf and it was pretty bloody solid while just looking to zero the new optic. The optic worked extremely well IMO.
Your comparison felt unbiased to me. Thank you for giving the 65 its due. 6ARC is great, but I doubt I'll ever own one given ammo costs and constraints.
Never used the 6mm arc, but have years of experience with the 6 5 grendel, have never looked back, completely enjoy the grendel. I did the 1 mile milk jug challenge in Utah with the grendel, and I hit it on my 4th (out of 10 rounds). The math is easy with 6 5 grendel, very consistent and very low BC.
Really good video man I like the comparison of the niche cartridges lot of us out here don't have the money to test and see if we would like this cartridge I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video
6.5 isn't niche. It's been around almost 30 years. SAAMI testing was done a decade or two ago. I love the Grendel, don't take it personally. I've watched the old girl be compared to 6.8 SPC, .30 Remington, 300 BLK, 5.56 NATO, etc. It does not disappoint and bring the meat everytime, cleanly. DRT, dead right there!
I've been using Grendel for 10 years. A darling of a cartridge! Especially in the 500 to 750 yard range. I bought a case of 6mm ARC a couple of years ago when I couldn't find Grendel, or primers, or powder. Never bought an upper for it. Two weeks ago, trying to buy Grendel, I found Winchester Select 6.5CM for under $16 a box. That's almost half what I was paying for 6.5G. So, on to the next adventure! I ordered enough to get the cost vs shipping to the minimum, and an upper from PSA as I already have a full 308 rifle from them. Spent a ton more on Black Friday sales for 6.5CM. Wanna trade a case of 6ARC for some fitting and accurizing on PSA? Lol! Nice presentation!
People been comparing the 6.5 Grendel to everything for 30 years. For a 16 inch Ar15 sized lower, it is king, hands down. The shorter the barrel i move to lighter bullets. I run a 14.5 and it'll put 3 shots in a hole at 100yds with 90 grain American Eagle. Prvi 110 is good as well. Strangely she loves the rough stuff and goes 1.5 moa with Wolf steel case. It'll do even better if you have a stash of the old school brass Wolf! 123 grain Lapua Scenar from AA is the GodEmperor of long-range!
The 6mmAR, 243LBC and 6mm Predator were around for years before Hornady copied them. In our 10 years worth of testing the 6mm works better for long range target shooting than the Grendel did. I still like a 243 for 600yd work.
I have a Rob Arms XCR in 6.5 Grendel which really shines in that caliber. Has been consistently sub moa with Hornady black and feeds everything including wolf without issue. The wolf does shoot around 5 moa though. The rifle and caliber combo is great as DMR, battle rifle, and hunting rifle.
6.5 Grendel is primarily a hunting cartridge that carries its energy out to 1000 yards. Here in Texas it is the caliber of choice for pig hunters (Myself included) I have not met a person yet that has hunted an animal with 6mm ARC. I'm sure someone is out there, but I'd be curious to know if it can take a hog at 300 yards or 500 yards. I assume with correct shot placement it can, but no one is using it.
Great unbiased video. I ❤️ my Grendel since I got it for longer distances on hogs vs my 300 blk out. Been super stoked on its performance in the ar 15 platform vs jumping up to an ar 10 for other calibers. Keep up the honesty! It’s well appreciated!
I have a 20" 6 ARC that make me look like a ok shooter, with the 108 g ELD Match, shot a group under .5 " (Saturn/Liberty barrel and bolt). Have a friend with a 16" Odin Works barrel and his loves the 103g rounds. Might want to try those lighter rounds to tighten those groups. Just a suggestion. Hope the 6mm ARC cartridge stays around!
Nice, I have good luck with my 6.5 Grendel and mounted the scope on a 20 moa rail. I load my own using 129 gr. Nosler Accubond LR's which is great at range and expands down to 1300 fps. I'm comfortable with hunting shots out to 400 yards. 8) I also have a Howa mini-action mounted in a boyd's At-One thumbhole stock, so probably won't be switching. I have the same scope on both guns and same rail, so my set-up is very similar with the only real difference being the gases lost on the AR platform. Both are shot with my SilencerCo 46 Hybrid Black can.
When choosing to go grendel or arc what made me go grendel was that arc to me seems as more of strictly a long range bullet vs the grendel that IMO is a do it all bullet
Great video. Appreciate you stepping outside the norm for this long distance perspective. Also, enjoyed your YHM double feature. A request: since you do excellent budget reviews, perhaps the Griffin GP-5? No one has put your level of a thorough review out there.
I own a couple 6.5 Grendels that I've had for years, I've been happy with the ballistics and they work for what I do (coyotes/blacktail deer). That said I think the 6mm ARC is likely a better cartridge for what I use the Grendel's for. The ARC can use the whole range of 6mm bullets whereas I'm kind of limited to bullet weights of about 123 grains in the 6.5mm. Switching over would just involve a barrel change since the bolt and magazines are the same. Maybe some day I'll switch, but I have so many Grendel cases and quite a few slugs at the moment so I'm gonna stick with it for awhile and see if the ARC hangs in there in popularity/availability. Great video, thank you!
The 6.5 Grendel has many more loads. Wolf 100grn. Hornady eld 100grn. 123gn eld. And sst. Federal loads 90grm 120gn federal fusion. And federal gold medal 130grn Burger long range. Ppu loads 110 and 120grn ammo. This is just a few of the hundreds of Grendel loads. Cavity back ammo produces a 118grn 6.5 load that gets 2850fps from a 18in barrel. The Grendel is just the better cartridge in my opinion. I want knockdown power and range. I also hunt large game. And I use my Grendel for self defense. I got a saber defense 16 in chrome lined barrel mid length gas upper with cozad buffer. Fail zero bcg. And a binary trigger. If runs like a clock.
I thought about building a 6.5 Grendel when ammo was cheaper and more readily available but never did. I'm already so invested in other calibers, it makes it difficult to think about adding another one. When I do inevitably go with another caliber, it will probably be a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt rifle.
I have 2 223 Wylde AR’s, a 300 blackout, a 224 Valkyrie, a 6.5 Grendel, and 2 6mmARC rifles. I just bought me a Savage Axis II Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor last week… There’s always room for jello 😂 You’ll love 6.5 Creedmoor
My son recently acquired a Bergara HMR in 6.5 PRC. It has a bit more arse than the Creedmoor and man, is that thing a laser beam. Recoil isn't bad at all, even without a brake. Could sit and shoot it all day and with the extra velocity over the CM, she'll reach way out there. I'm sold on the 6.5 PRC cartridge.
@@luckymanham302 I went 300prc you can look at numbers on paper all day but a 30cal just hits different on game. Hence 6.5 looking better than 308 on paper when in reality its better for small game at distance but inside 300 on whitetail they are not even close when looking at wound channels. PS I own several creedmoors and love them
I was running a aero precision 24" .936" upper in 6 ARC with handloads and got good results out to 1k yards. Yes, the velocity was slow but I used Varget because I wanted temp stability. Sure, I could get slightly more velocity out of leverevolution but during a match where the temp could swing 30 degrees during the day I didn't want to be adjusting my kestrel. All that said, I believe for long range shooting in the ar 15 platform, as of right now the 6 ARC is the way to go. We'll see what happens when the 22 ARC gets a little more playing time out on the range. Hard telling but the 22 ARC may just be the way to go. Either way I enjoy 6 ARC and will keep it in my inventory.
6ARC is used by secret squirrels, Noveske and Geissele make some pew tools and the secret squirrels like it a lot for AR15 sized platform over AR10 platform. But SOCOM also did just adopt the MRGG-S from geissele too in 6.5 creedmoor.
Great comparison! I love both cartridges for slightly different reasons. I do tend to favor longer barrels for them though. 20-22 inch barrels will be your friend out to 800-1000 yards to get that extra bit of azz behind the bullet.
I agree, haven't shot a 6 arc yet, but with the grendel and a 22inch barrel it was like shooting a 308 with no recoil, for drop. Longer targets were a challenge because there was still a lot of drop. You just barely can't push it fast enough
Just ordered a handguard for my Grendel build today. It's the last piece i need before i can finish it and shoot (still need a break but can shoot without it)
I can't justify anything that isn't a 30 cal load. 300 BO.....308 Winchester. THEN the 30-06 All these designer calibers are fine for shooting holes in paper and theorizing. 30 cal won wars. Yeah. Those who MUST always have to have "The Newest" in everything HATE when someone brings the War Thing Up.
Put together a 12.5” 6mm ARC using a Mos-Tek barrel and bolt with a midlength gas system. Shoots like a dream. Supersonic past 1000 yards still, very accurate, and it’s become my new do-it-all gun.
Okay first off... As we we gonna ignore the Mass Effect theme music in the background in this video? Best video game series ever IMO! Second, I have a BA 16in upper in 6.5 and I love it. Hoping to take a deer with it this year! Was able to get moa or better groups with wolf ammo out of it! Don't ask me how that happened!
I’ve got a custom Øx Firearms 6.5 Grendel. It’s a great all around cartridge which I use for hunting and long range shooting. As far as the ammo availability, before the coof, you could find really cheap, decent PPU ammo, but now I can only find Wolf steel case (which I don’t shoot) or Hornady Black for $29 a box.
There are at least 124 factory loads for 6.5 Grendel as of 2023 that I could find. Ammoseek is your friend. There are good deals to be found daily. TargetSportsUSA and SGA Ammo have been good sources. If you want top notch ammo, Alexander Arms and Precision Firearms make excellent premium ammo. 123gr Scenar has the 2nd highest BC for 123gr. Fort Scott TUI 123gr has a really high BC as well.
Starline started making ARC brass last fall, off the top of my head I can only remember one company making ammo with them, Druid Hill Armory I believe.
Been shooting and hunting with 6.5 Grendel here in the PNW for 10+ years. IMO its the most versatile and capable caliber you can run in an AR15. 6ARC is great but more geared towards being a combat/competition round. Ive killed things with the Grendel that I woildnt have shot with a 6ARC. Id also love to learn more about 6MAX.
I have been thinking my next rifle will be a 6mm ARC in a bolt gun. If you handload Hornady has data to get the cartridge up to full pressure and it will boost your speeds by a few hundred FPS. That in a lightweight Mini-action Howa just seems like a great backcountry hunting gun that would be good for kids to learn on too. Both cartridges are great and i think most advantages between the two go to the barrels, scopes and the shooters more than the cartridges.
Main difference between the cartridges is going to be weights and speeds. I think 6ARC makes for a great handloading cartridge and a good pairing for a bolt action rifle.
You won't see a few hundred fps increase even in a bolt gun. With the bolt gun, you might see 125fps increase over an AR, which is basically meaningless downrange. Better to find an accurate load that predictably goes where you want it without chasing pressure. I've been hand-loading for 6.5 Grendel since 2009, to include getting a Howa at one point. I prefer gas guns, so I sold the Howa. I have 7 Grendels from 22" down to 10.5".
@@LRRPFco52 I think you missed the part about the higher pressure load data. Do a quick Google search for "6mm arc bolt action loads" and you will find published load data from Hornady with full pressure loads for a fully supported bolt. Average speed increase is 250 fps across the board. The ELD match load goes from 2550fps max to 2850fps max. I don't know why more people are not talking about this other than it is limited to handloaders right now. It is an amazingly efficient cartridge, especially when not held back by the limitations of the AR platform.
an 18" barrel from ballistic advantage for the 6 arc (since 6 arc was designed around the 18"barrel) should considerably improve your ranged accuracy and velocity to target enough to make the 6.5 grendel (at least to 1000 yds) inferior. Add an adjustable gas block, a slick aero 2 stage trigger and you instantly make the 6 arc a smoother firing weapon system... you may just prefer the 6 arc more. :P
Shouldve compared 129/130gr eldm 6.5 bullets, the 108 is the heaviest and longest 6mm bullet so you have to compare it to the heaviest and longest 6.5 bullet for the cartridge
When it comes to a precision oriented rifle, BA isnt in my top choices. I did initially go with an 18" SS 6 ARC that i got on the cheap from B Kings, but it did not shoot all that well, and it also did not have a good chamber. I reload, so when i sized my cases, the base swelled so much in the BA chamber that a hard ridge formed at the base where the sizing die stopped. Big turn off for me. So i instead, due to a lack of options at the time, ordered a Wilson combat barrel that is kind of a light profile and is fluted, but is very accurate and is consistent and has an in-spec chamber. I also got into the .22 ARC because i love the idea of a near peer to the .22-250 (im getting 3640fps with 53gr VMAX and it shoots sub MOA) in a smaller frame. That barrel is a Shaw 22" no flutes, and shoots lights out and i have had very good luck out to 600 yards with hornady black 75gr ELD. Recently the Shaw 18" 6mm barrels were back in stock and i have been considering getting one for the heavier profile, but the wilson just shoots so nice. The POI shift with the wilson after putting a can on it was also suprisingly negligible. If you do reload, do not hotrod these rounds in an AR, they have high bolt thrust and will wipe the bolt lugs off relatively quickly, making the bolt very much a consumable. I dont have as much experience with the 6.5 grendel, but my dad owns one that i have put a couple hundred rounds through, and have struggled to get good groups out of it. Hornady really got the W with the ARC series of cartridges IMHO. I have been shooting the wildcat 6mmAR or a variant of it for about 8 years now.
I have a 12.5 Grendel upper it’s okay, I think I’ll try a Ruger or Howa bolt for a cheap alternative Grendel as I stocked up on ammo pre Biden , thanks for comparing
Reloading 100 grain v max and max charge of benchmark out of my ruger american predator 6.5 grendel with a 22" barrel produces around 2950 fps. and 1-1.5 moa. Love it
Have both, my ARC (18” Odin Works)shoots better than my Grendel (20” Brownells). Both get run with a YHM Resonator R2. Both are Moa rifles the ARC is .5-.75 vs right at Moa with the Grendel. Lastly ARC is strangely easier to find in my area.
@@FocusTrippBefore you get a new 6mm ARC barrel, try shooting some 107gr 6.5mm SMKs from any of the factory ammo sources. There's a list of all 124 factory loads as of 2023 on the Grendel Forum with hotlinks.
Cavity back ammo make 118grn 6.5grendel that gets 2850fps from a 18 in Barrel. That's screaming for such a heavy bullet. Also Federal gold medal match has a 130grn bullet made by Berger it has a bc of .611 and a hybrid bullet design that's the best long range load for Grendel in my opinion. 6.5also hits harder. Has much better ammo selection. Has affordable ammo available. And has a larger bullet selection especially in weight.
I've thought about getting these longer range cartridges for an ar15 but the more I look into it, the more I realize a bolt action rifle in 308 or 6.5 creedmore makes more sense to me.
What is your experience with the reliability of both systems? I hear anecdotally they feed unreliability in the AR platform, which is the only thing keeping me from building one. I'm more interested in the performance out of a short barrel compared to 556 and 300 blk than long range. Roughly double the energy with significantly less drop under 300 yards, for close to the same recoil. The performance to platform weight of a 6.5/6mm SBR suppressed with an lpvo seems unbeatable for a fighting/hunting rifle.
So the 6.5 Grendel has been perfect. The 6arc has some issues when going from suppressed to unsuppressed. I have it tuned to run better suppressed as of right now.
@@FocusTripp Thanks for the reply. That's great to hear for 6.5 Grendel, but I still wish I understood what causes others issues with magazines/bolts/gas tuning that leads to poor reliability reports so I could confidently put together a system I trust as much as 556. That and the whole short barrel ATF nonsense has me waiting to build. Anyway, praying for you and your business! 🙏
I've been shooting 6.5 Grendel since 2009 and now have 7 of them. I value my range and shooting time higher than any other outside-the-home activity. I would absolutely not be wasting my time with it if it gave me fuss. Most of my Grendel shooting has been in formal Long Range training courses that I run. Almost all of them are 2-3 day courses shooting all day, no time sitting in a classroom. The others are me shooting with my kids. Imagine me looking like a fool fumbling around with unreliable Grendels in front of attendees or my kids. That said, I do have a list of reliability and accuracy techniques I use when assembling an AR-15. I don't just slap parts together.
@@LRRPFco52 Thank you for sharing your experience. Would you mind sharing more about what you've learned in terms of reliability when putting a system together? Is there anything that is specific to 6.5 Grendel you've found that is unique compared to general ar15 reliability? I've read about concepts like dwell time when matching barrel length and gas systems, and am leaning toward a flow through suppressor to avoid back pressure issues, etc. I've also read about people polishing the feed ramps on their grendel mags to solve reliability issues. At some point I probably just need to dive in, but I like to be thorough and do it right the first time if I can. Since the longest range I have access to is 600 yards I wanted to build a short and light suppressed package that would pull target, hunting, and self defense duty.
@@JimYeatsfor those who want to have to buy a new barrel every 1000 rounds or so 😂 224 Valkyrie is great if you reload. Cheap, accurate and doesn’t burn barrels up.
In my experience, ammo has been the opposite. I very rarely see 6.5 grendel ammo anywhere, and 6mm ARC I can find just about anywhere. And prices I found to be the opposite, 6.5 grendel is crazy expensive ($2-$3/rd) to shoot, whereas 6 ARC is about the same as .308/6.5CM. (1.5-3 dollars/rd)
@FocusTripp my understanding is that its because Alexander arms when they designed the cartridge kept all the designs and specs on wrap so no one else had access to them. Thats why OG barrels were all alexander arms barrels and why there was a bunch of mixups with the type 1 vs the type 2 bolts. It wasnt until a good time after that other mfg companies got data and whatnot to manufacture ammo and parts for the platform. Even now, ive only seen 6.5 grendel (in person) mfgd by alexander arms, hornady (black, custom, and eld loadings), and nosler. I do know that barnes and berger makes 6.5 but ive never seen them in a store. And a ton of Wolf 6.5 grendel was available for a while, but i think that went away with the russian embargo.
As usual, great content. I had been wanting a 6ARC, but while buying 6.5 creedmoor ammo I accidentally bid on 6.5 Grendel on GunBroker, the rest, as they say is history. Oh on my 13.5" 308, I didn't have the heart to part it out, and I'm buying another receiver set to build that creedmoor.
I prefer 6.5 Grendel. Ammo is cheaper. It's better for hunting. And I use mine for self defense. I have a chrome lined 16in Grendel from saber defense. Cozad recoil reducing buffer. It runs like a clock and is my home defense rifle . No issues period ever. Cavity back makes the 118grn 6.5grendel that gets 2850fps from a 18in barrel. It's my go to hunting/self defense round. I use federal gold medal match 130grn burger for long range. It's got a bc of .611.
Why not the 123 grain Lapua Scenar for the 6.5 Grendel? BC is .547. I get 2650 FPS from my Grendel. The 108 grains I can get 2800 FPS with a .465 BC? Just curious.
If you hand load there just as many, if not more offerings for the 6arc than the 6.5 creedmoor . This because of the 243win being around since 1955. And it is also pretty much just as good for whitetails as the grendel because of the higher velocity and sleeker bullets. It doesn't shed velocity as fast as the larger less sleek bullets used in 6.5 gredel. However the 6.5 grendel is a great whitetail cartridge, especially out to 250to300y. But if I'm going to be shooting out to 400yrds I'll take my 6arc over 6.5 grendel. And I will take my 6.5 creedmoor over both for anything over that. 👍🏻👍🏻
I really like 6 ARC, but I still think they're trying to figure out gassing and twist rates on barrels. Grendel has been supported longer and seems more settled. I typically prefer Grendel, but I have a lighter weight 6 ARC shorty that could essentially replace a MK12 that's been fantastic. For hunting, Grendel wins. The weird part is that 6 mm Max is coming out and may end up replacing both of these rounds.
6mm Max requires magazines that will support 2.300" COL, which is really hard to do in AR-15 mag wells without binding. Even then, it doesn't allow loading of the longer 6mm target bullets, which are the whole reason for 6mm AR and 6mm ARC.
I built a cheap bca 6.5 Grendel 18 inch couple years back took it out and feel in love for my area of shooting. I also built it to use the cheap steel case ammo and bam the banned it and price tripled . I did get 1k rounds if it. And my don’t like Hornady black . But found something cheap and it loves it.
I've got a 18" 6.5 Grendel... and anything inside 700 yards is in very deep trouble! I have a hunting load I can get 1.2" groups and the match style hornady black 123 hpbt stuff is consistent at about 7/8" often times being a jagged hole I can cover with a fingertip. and I'm not even a fantastic shooter. very plain setup with a vg6 muzzle break. and a 3-12× truglo 2nd focal plain scope. I'm pretty sure I got lucky on the bear creek arsenal upper
I have a Faxon heavy fluted custom barrel and it does okay hornady blacks. I can shoot a but over 1 MOA at 100yds with the. The 108gr do better at just under 1 moa. I got a chance to shoot some handloads with berger 109LR and they were sub moa, better than i can shoot. They were spicy for my AR. but the guy who loaded them consistently gets 1/2 MOA out of his 6mm arc bolt gun. Its a fun round and i plan to both target shoot and whitetail hunt with it.

Thanks for that review have a 18 inch CMMG in 6ARC and I’m very happy with it. You always do great factual reviews. Again Thank You!
I have 20’’ Endeavors ❤❤❤
I like that you approximate your distance and admit it, super professional
If interested in trade let me know.
112 grain 6 arc would disagree tho
@@tedarcher9120 but it wouldn't be correct.
The 6mmAR, 243LBC and 6mm Predator were around for years before Hornady copied them. In our 10 years worth of testing the 6mm works better for long range target shooting than the Grendel did. I still like a 243 for 600yd work.
Mass effect ambient music and 6.5 Grendel, awesome.
That's sick, I want to try one of those out.
my 12 inch Faxon 6.5 Grendel shoots wolf steel cased at about 3 MOA (Hornady Black and Custom between .65 and .75 Moa depending on the batch)
Love the Mass Effect nod. Thanks for this video!
🍿
6.5 Grendel is primarily a hunting cartridge that carries its energy out to 1000 yards. Here in Texas it is the caliber of choice for pig hunters (Myself included) I have not met a person yet that has hunted an animal with 6mm ARC. I'm sure someone is out there, but I'd be curious to know if it can take a hog at 300 yards or 500 yards. I assume with correct shot placement it can, but no one is using it.
6.5g is well proven in the hunting context.
A lot of good info on a subject I don't look into often personally. And the Mass Effect music in the background really brought me back
Great unbiased video.
Me too! I think I need to try some more barrels.
When choosing to go grendel or arc what made me go grendel was that arc to me seems as more of strictly a long range bullet vs the grendel that IMO is a do it all bullet
agreed
Great video. Appreciate you stepping outside the norm for this long distance perspective. Also, enjoyed your YHM double feature. A request: since you do excellent budget reviews, perhaps the Griffin GP-5? No one has put your level of a thorough review out there.
LOVE ME SOME GRENDEL. Got into it before the ARC came along. Plus Wolf
If you are already into either, not much reason to switch.
I just bought me a Savage Axis II Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor last week… There’s always room for jello 😂
You’ll love 6.5 Creedmoor
My son recently acquired a Bergara HMR in 6.5 PRC. It has a bit more arse than the Creedmoor and man, is that thing a laser beam. Recoil isn't bad at all, even without a brake. Could sit and shoot it all day and with the extra velocity over the CM, she'll reach way out there. I'm sold on the 6.5 PRC cartridge.
@@edwardlance2379 I was thinking about either a 7PRC or 300prc for my next rifle..
7 PRC would be pretty sweet. I was considering a 7 SAUM build, but I'm looking hard at these new PRC cartridges.@@luckymanham302
Please tell +/- of each.
Just ordered a handguard for my Grendel build today. It's the last piece i need before i can finish it and shoot (still need a break but can shoot without it)
Thanks for the information.
I have the 6.5 type 2 now I think I'm gonna build a 6mm arc😁🤙🏾
Can't justify a 6mm build. Really love my 6.5grendel a bit more. Great hunting round.
I can't justify anything that isn't a 30 cal load. 300 BO.....308 Winchester. THEN the 30-06
All these designer calibers are fine for shooting holes in paper and theorizing.

Yep, still hard to find all the loads that used to just sit on shelfs.
There are at least 124 factory loads for 6.5 Grendel as of 2023 that I could find. Ammoseek is your friend. There are good deals to be found daily.
TargetSportsUSA and SGA Ammo have been good sources.

New Grendel owner . I’ve had the best luck out of 123 eld black . Found 10 boxes at $21 each
Shouldve compared 129/130gr eldm 6.5 bullets, the 108 is the heaviest and longest 6mm bullet so you have to compare it to the heaviest and longest 6.5 bullet for the cartridge
Would love to see 6.5 Grendel get bigger and more ammo available. Great for a ar15 deer hunting gun especially for under 400 yards
loved the classical music. well done
The Halo music in the background made the video just that much🤌🏾
Reloading 100 grain v max and max charge of benchmark out of my ruger american predator 6.5 grendel with a 22" barrel produces around 2950 fps. and 1-1.5 moa.

Good to hear, I think I may need a new barrel.
@@FocusTrippBefore you get a new 6mm ARC barrel, try shooting some 107gr 6.5mm SMKs from any of the factory ammo sources.

Glad to hear, I need to swap out barrels.
YHM suppressors rock!
@Genesis-revelation70 great question, sounds interesting 🤔

224 Valkyrie is great if you reload. Cheap, accurate and doesn’t burn barrels up.
Try 80gr ELDs with H4895 powder it will smoke the Grendel and ARC at longer ranges due to faster velocities.
Interesting.
As a reloader.. 6mm ARC all the way!!
No doubt
This is a great breakdown! Thanks!
Glad to help!
Gotcha, 6.5g isn't a bad way to go.
I built a 16” 6mm arc using the same barrel. Haven’t shot it yet but it turned out really nice.
Let me know how it goes!
Ohhhh..... been waiting on this!
What are the twist rates of each barrel???
I shoot both at steel. When the wind reaches 7mph or higher, the Grendel hits more consistently.
Interesting.

Would love to see a video of you listing your favorite hand gaurds for ar15 builds and why. Would make for a quick easy video to film i imagine 😊
I thought 1:7.5 twist rate (or 1:7) is the norm for 6 ARC already?
There are definitely some gassing issues on a lot of the semi autos.
6mm Max requires magazines that will support 2.300" COL, which is really hard to do in AR-15 mag wells without binding.
Even then, it doesn't allow loading of the longer 6mm target bullets, which are the whole reason for 6mm AR and 6mm ARC.
Most excellent!

I haven't tried the BCA grendel uppers, but for a cheap gun, could be fun.
I might be wrong but there are a lot more choices in ammunition for the 6.5 Grendel ( long range, plinking, hunting) than the 6mm ARC.

Were you using the Duramags? If so, were they working without any hiccups?
Duramag, on the 6arc I had to tune down the gas with a suppressor so it wouldn't outrun the mag.
Hell yeah. 🔥🇺🇸🤙🏻
Two cartridges I'm interested in being explained intelligently WITH Mass Effect & Halo background music...🤤🤤🤤🤤
The Halo Reach music in the background though...
the halo reach music was a vibe
Is it true that in general the 6Arc has the advantage in not misfeeding ?
Not in my experience.
@FocusTripp Can you do a review on the Ruger SFAR before year end please.
Maybe, not likely though at this point.
Hey @focustripp what kind of a2 stock are you using? I'm trying to find a good one.
It's an old UTG stock that has worked well for a long time now.
@@FocusTripp does anyone make an a2 style stock that will go on a carbine buffer tube?
I think somebody does, I haven't tried any though.
@FocusTripp that's wild. I'll try to grab one, everyone else says don't lmao.
@@FocusTripp I can't find a company that does if you hear of one could you let me know
