      G9 on stabe alone sinks Fuji. I have the XT-2 and on a gimbal it does great for 1080 60p - so unless you need 4K - and most vloggers don’t - buy a XT-2 for peanuts (made in Japan, superior build quality to XT-4) and buy in when Fuji delivers on glass for video.

    What I see :
    Fuji : Fast autofocus but sometimes not accurate, really good color science (looks cinematic), not very good stabilization, good dynamique range
    G9 : good stabilisation, not very good dynamique range, skin looks yellowish in the shadow, very slow autofocus
    thanks for the video btw !

    I'll show myself out. But first: the G9 IMO has much better stabilization in almost every mode. Fuji's AF and exposure looked better except in severe backlight, which G9 did better. And that plane looked like a B-17 of WWII vintage. Maybe heading for a Canada Day air show?

  • @AlexZafer
    @AlexZafer 4 года назад +11

    Love those Fuji colours and dynamic range... but have to admit that dollar for dollar, the Panasonic G9 is one heckuva deal. Tough to beat if you're on a budget looking for a very capable camera that is seriously comfy ergonomically in a rugged body. Still prefer the G9 IBIS though, and the auto-focus has improved immensely since the last firmware update. Can't go too wrong with either system -- depending on your intentions and expectations. Almost a draw here.

    • @fredriksvard2603

      Heckuva deal but when phones are as capable as they are today, theres no room for "ok" cameras imo. They need to be absolutely magical for me to deal with the cost, bulk, fiddling with post processing etc. So average general purpose slow zoom lenses make zero sense to me.

    Great test. Hands down better DR on the Fuji. Nicer bokeh too. G9 is way better stabilized, and shows way better colors. Fuji colors make your shirt pink and your face gets a greenish cast in the mids and shadows. Great face colors on the G9, in the highs, mids and shadows.
    For me three year old G9 wins. Did your adjust the brightness and shadow curves on the Panny? It might help to compress the DR. 👍

    Hey -- remember -- face tracking is not directly linked to AF -- on these two cameras for sure (and most others). Just because the face/eye detect grabs your face or eye does not guarantee that the AF system sets focus on your face or eye. We have seen that in just about all reviews of these and more cameras (yes, even Sony) -- why? I have no idea, it is pretty stupid if you ask me not to lock the AF to the face/eye detect better. But there are definitely times where the face detect box is locked on your face yet the AF (both XT-4 and G9) jumps somewhere else.

    The G9 is the clear winner. The Fuji is surprisingly bad at the jello in the background when walking.

  • @rodneyschmidt3652
    @rodneyschmidt3652 4 года назад +1

    05:37 The G9 completely loses focus and pulls the background
    You at 05:44: "I'll tell ya... I'm struggling with this Fuji... it just loses me so much"
    I think the Panasonic was more consistent, but significantly slower to catch focus once it realized it lost it. There were several points where the Fuji lost focus, but as soon as it figured it out, "BAM" it was in focus.
    I think this was the first video you've done with the Fuji where I fully noticed the pulsing focus. In your other video tests, it was there but not as drastic.
    Still prefer the Fuji colors... and that bird video with the Fuji alone was gorgeous.
    The main thing I don't like about the Panasonic is that it really seems to crush the blacks so hard compared to the Fuji.
    Weird, that during your stabilization tests at the 13:46 mark, for whatever reason the Panasonic started pulse focusing. I think that was the first time I've seen it do that.
    Still going to give it to the Fuji... sorry. I know others will disagree. The G9 did a great job, but it just didn't have that cinematic quality.

  • @kenross6028
    @kenross6028 4 года назад +3

    First off the XT4 AF was worlds better this time after your update. It was clearly better than the G9. Clearly. I'm amazed at how many time you 'think' it's not focusing on you and it is. The only trouble I saw was with the woodpecker until you used the touchscreen, otherwise the AF was as good as anyone could expect from a mirrorless. Even at the end when you thought the AF jumped to the trees, it was clearly locked on to your face. I was hysterical that you claimed it was jumping to the trees. I'm really not sure what you're watching...maybe Tony's videos?
    The question I have for you is how you set your WB. If you're using AWB (no shame), you should be selecting AWB 'W', not plain AWB or AWB 'A'. When I first got the camera I tried plain AWB and thought the color was too cool. Selecting AWB-W gives me colors that are the best I've seen in any camera I've owned while using AWB. It's really that good. There were times in your video that the color looked too cool and reminded me of when I used plain AWB.
    You're getting there, you'll learn this beast of a camera soon. ;)

    • @cameraconspiracies
      @cameraconspiracies  4 года назад +1

      I'm talking about what I'm seeing on the screen. It shows the eye box disappear sometimes and I'm pointing it out, I never said it actually lost focus. And when I'm talking about it jumping to the trees (which it did plenty in this video) I'm talking about the past. It's still very unreliable in these lighting conditions. We haven't had a cloud day in weeks. And yes, I'm in AWB with white priority from the beginning.

    The title should read "Best Vlogging Camera?". As he briefly mentions, he's only testing one use case. To declare that Fuji is "not good for video" is too broad a statement. It really depends on usage. For cinematic work (narrative film, commercials, music videos) I would take the Fuji over the Panasonic. Vlogging relies heavily on a "run and gun" style of filming similar to doing news coverage and documentary work which I think the Panasonic comes out on top.

    Well done Kasey. A great comparison on these cameras. In my opinion I fell the G9 had the better overall stabilization but the Fuji better color and exposure . I feel strongly if Fuji can add in their next firmware update a “focus limiter” option (near and far). This may help greatly in the jumping to the background. Kasey, I also appreciate the possibility that you may have believed one of my ideas that the jumping focus of the Fuji to the trees is the software believing it sees faces there. I know this may not be in your wheel house, but try taking 5-10 “pictures” of the location you are in with trees like this video. And play them back in camera, you should find some have “DETECTED FACE” option show up in just a tree/ leaves shot. Who knows this could be the issue we find in videos as well.....?

I'm afraid that one day you'll get a setting so slow, that you won't be able to get out of the way of the car, and it will be the end of you; what will your mother and all your fans do without you?

    Have you tried only lens stabilization on the XT4 with the 10-24? The EOS R looks much less warpy when it's wide with just lens stabilization and I'm interested to see if it's the same with the Fuji.

    I can always tell the Panasonic because the blacks are darker, the image is always seeming to be darker in general to me, though it looked pretty good when you changed the EV. It does that on my GX85 too, it's annoying, changes back constantly.

      Without a doubt the g9. Zv1 is just another rx100, and for video they are bang average. However I would say the colour science has improved on the zv1.

      No worries bro. I'm upgrading to a G9 from an RX100 M4 which is comparable to the zv1. I have some videos on my channel if you want to get a feel for it, particularly a new video in New Zealand of some blue pools. It offers pleasant video, but it's just so limited, so an upgrade is overdue. ☮️

    I agree Fuji is good in full manual. Otherwise the exposure stepping is very annoying. Ibis is good enough, except for wide angle. It’s just not as good as micro 4/3 or even Canon eos-r with the good lens stabilization. From what I have seen Canon or Sony is best all around for video.

  • @uhu4677

    The "warpy shit" comes probably from the high barrel distortion of the ultra wide angle lenses.
    The de-warping of those cameras does not seem to account for the IBIS-driven sensor capturing different areas, when moving around.
    The Ultra Wide Angle "Zero-D" Primes from Laowa might not show this warping. Actually I'd be very interested to see, if this is actually the case.
    They're only manual ... but maybe this can even be an advantage for Vlogging?
    (Also they're super lightweight.)

    Philip Bloom had a very good test on the fujifilm xt 4(old version) and autofocus. Its something like 16-55 2.8 was one of the best for video. He also shows the setup (speed etc). Check that video out and learn:) Older fujilenses not so good. Test out the 16-80mm. You will be suprised by that lense. Ibis looks better after firmware,have not testet it fully but its on the right direction. Dont forget, they are coming with new lenses this year:)
