Joy in the Lord has got to be te hardest aspect of the Christian life, especially when your life is falling apart. I am experiencing this now and I do have moments of peace and serenity that I know that God is sovereign even in this horrendous situation. But I don't think I have yet experienced joy. Hopefully I will mature to that point.

I don't disagree but I think the main scriptural emphasis is that the fear of the LORD sets us free from all other unhealthy fears. I guess joy in the LORD is merely an aspect of the fear of the LORD. Different emphasis. Same result.
The wisest is to first fear the Lord, at the same rejoice with Joy. We are dying to our flesh daily carrying our cross in humility humbly... For others. To be set apart as an example a representation for Jesus. As seeds planter. Through the growing process of being redefined & renewed. Its necessary to prune While growing bc it produces more fruit. Another analogy. It's like peeling an onion ...many tears and sorrows along the way. Peeling layer after layer... then you reach the sweet part. At the same time pure Joy & Gladness. Bc it nothing but the good stuff. As We are responsible for our own salvation. He's the potter were the clay .. it's a life time of molding. All To bring us to complete maturity spiritually & so forth. Being filled with joy through this process & Fearing the Lord ... As I Speak for myself the process fear & Joy gives me motivation to want to do what's right. And turn from my wicked ways. We all learn different... But aiming for the same Goal. By our faith in God, and love ... And his mercy & grace in which he pours out every morning. Guides and helps us through the process. To a righteous life & godly sorrow lead to repentive heart. In which help us turn from our fleshly ways & thinking. we know all things work together for the good for those who love God. According to his purpose. JOY is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is never contrary to the teachings of Christ. God provides peace which is beyond human understanding. If you don't experience this in your life then you ought to examine your faith and see if you are truly in Christ.

There is certainly no other preacher/teacher who's message is as focused on the disparities and trials of life. The joy that he speaking of is in the face of extreme suffering and that's the context of the Bible's understanding of joy. "Sorrowful yet always rejoicing". This is a predominant thread in his ministry. It is a good thing for you to have come here and commented from the manner in which you did because it should lead you to further exploration of his ministry. "Christian Hedonism" is a distinctive in his message of contrasting the typical platitudes of contemporary Christianity because suffering for and with Christ is what regenerative faith enables in the Christian... and to do it with gladness in light of the darkness in the world. Search for "When I don't Desire God" and "When the Darkness will not lift". The existential experience in the context of your comment is exactly what Piper's ministry addresses which is why I believe it is Providence for you to be here. Perhaps another angle from which your comment is postured is simply one of contrarian cynicism (which in light theodicial suffering in the world is understandable), but if continued even then light of Piper's ministry, would seemingly be a reflection of you being assigned to that despair in your own life.
