Dark Passion Play es el título del sexto álbum de Nightwish, siendo el primer disco con la nueva vocalista Anette Olzon, sustituta de Tarja Turunen, que fue expulsada de la banda en 2005. Fue lanzado el 26 de septiembre de 2007 a través de Spinefarm Records, el 28 de septiembre de 2007 a través de Nuclear Blast Records y el 2 de octubre de 2007 a través de Roadrunner Records.
El costo de la grabación del álbum fue de £500 000, convirtiéndolo en el disco más caro en la historia de la música en Finlandia, además se gastarón otros £270 000 en la filmación de los videoclips del álbum; «Amaranth» y «Bye Bye Beautiful».1 Fue grabado en el Abbey Road Studios con la Orquesta Filarmónica de Londres, Tuomas Holopainen se refirió a Dark Passion Play como el «álbum que salvó su vida».2 En el invierno de 2005 y 2006 todo le parecía desesperado y tenía pensamientos oscuros, y solo pudo encontrar esperanza escribiendo canciones.
Los pedidos anticipados para Dark Passion Play tenían oro certificado en Finlandia antes de ponerse en venta. El álbum debutó en el número uno en 6 países de Europa, vendiendo más de 100 000 copias en Finlandia otorgándole el triple disco platino.3 En febrero de 2008, el álbum fue certificado cuádruple platino también en ese país, después de comercializar más de 120 000 copias, lo que lo convierte en uno de los 40 álbumes más vendidos de todos los tiempos en su país natal,3 en Estados Unidos se ubicó en el puesto ochenta y cuatro con 134 000 mil copias.

@AOD_AnkGrooger Rarely sounded good in studio recordings? Her albums with Nightwish were 2 of the biggest selling. Her videos Bye bye Beautiful and Amaranth have the most views. Truth.
Anette is so much fun on stage, she got charisma and stage presence. I love vocalists that are energetic like this and get the crowd involved. She gets far too much hate. Keep slaying them Anette!

I got to see them live here in portugal in 2008 and Anette really delivered. I always prefered her over Tarja, but I get it, Tarja marked a generation for nightwish, she is amazing! But Anette will always have a place in my heart

Mislim da je veća verovatnoća da ćemo pre videti sastav The Beatles iz recimo 1967. u Srbiji nego Nightwish. I to što su bili u Petrovaradinu, izglasala iliti zahtevala je publika iz zemalja našeg okruženja. Tako su mi barem tada kazali iz organizacionog odbora EXIT. Nepostoji ovde nešto što se zove želja za organizovanjem koncerata jer gotovo 96% izvođača koji ovde gostuju prođu kao usran bez papira, nema teorije da bi ova grupa rasprodala ni pola hale Pionir, a Arena!?!?!? Ni u domenu naučne fantastike! Nisu je rasprodala ni mnooogo veća imena. Ovde više NIKO neće dolaziti jer nema interesa. Ovo je siromašna zemlja, nepostoji kultura zvana odlasci na koncerte, bioskope, sportska dešavanja, kupovina CD i DVD-ova. Kraj, nema više! Ko ima love neka ide u inostranstvo, ovde ko je bio - bio je i teško da će ponovo doći, veruj mi ja sam savršeno upoznat sa tom materijom.Pozdrav!

I really don't get all the hate Anette gets. Ok, she doesn't have the classical singing as Tarja and Floor, but look at how awesome she is. She sings very well, she has stage presence, she's cute, she delivers feelings while singing.
Such a high quality band wouldn't take her if she weren't equally competent.
Everyone can make a mistake. Even the best. The choice of Anette should probably to a large extent be seen in the light of a kind of backlash against both the relationship to, the person and the singing style of Tarja and therefore perhaps not the most rational, but emotional choice. Anette has her charm and works quite well on the two CDs with her, but has far from the same technical skills as Floor and Tarja, what you most clearly hear on her live performances. Being critical of Anette's singing and technical qualities is not hate. It's just reasonable objective criticism.
@@ebbenielsen7 being critical is not the same as just throwing hate. Some people can't do one without doing the other. 🤷♀️
There's just no way to compare Tarja to her. Nor Floor (in fact, Floor can do anything, so no one could actually be compared to her). But it doesn't mean Anette's not a good choice.
I love her singing Sleeping Sun. Tarja's my fave singer ever, but Anette's version of it gives me totally different feelings.
She sounds OK here, and the sound quality isn't the best, but in some live performances she sounds very rough particularly singing the older stuff you can hear her strain. It must be tough to sing songs written for another singer with a different style (unless you are Floor). I don't think the the issue was so much competence as being not a good fit musically of personality wise and the fans not ready to accept another singer straight after Tarja. I'm pretty sure if Floor has directly replaced Tarja she would have got a bunch of hate too.
@@101Mant FLOOR also does the poppy songs. She is an excellent singer but everyone overrates her too much.
Another thing that few people comment on. Floor uses a slight voice corrector on her microphone. In the dvd that you can see they are all compressed to get the best possible sound.
If you listen to Anette, she doesn't use any type of filter on the microphone or background tracks (Tarja also used background tracks)
I prefer Nightwish with Tarja, simply because it was the true symphonic metal band.
But they hate Anette a lot for no reason, being deaf and thinking they know music when they don't know what tone the band is in.
@@EDDIE_CARP "Floor uses a slight voice corrector on her microphone". How do you know that? As a someone who has watched her live performances throughout her career from her After Forever days, she has had multiple different microphones yet her voice has always sounded the same. Of course the voice changes with age but that's a completely normal process. There are also videos where she sings without microphone and videos where she sings with microphones that are used in opera houses which definitely doesn't have any filters. The key thing is that you can sing and Floor has proved that it doesn't matter does she sing with microphone or not, her vocals are amazing.
What comes to dvds: it's true that they mix them to as good quality as possible but Nightwish doesn't use autotune or correct the vocals in any way, so what you hear for example in Wacken 2013 dvd is actually very realistic to what people have heard in an actual consert (there are a lot of phone recordings from 2013 and from Wacken as well). There are also some streams of Nightwish/Floor conserts (Hellfest 2022, Deichbrand 2022, Wacken 2018...) which doesn't have any treatment and Floor sounds amazing in those conserts as well.
I don't really know what was the purpose of your comment, maybe you tried to explain why Floor sounds so amazing (because of the filters, dvds and stuff) but believe or not, she isn't this respected singer for nothing.

we complain about anette, but she is better then most mainstream singers thats for sure. people often forget that both tarja and floor had serious vocal training, anette didnt and she still crushed those songs. and definetely the meanest nightwish voice. love her so muchhhh

I mean if your fine with nasally vocal technique sure. I doubt that she had no vocal training at all being that both of her parents were singers. I have my share of appreciation for her but most of the time I can't listen to her live because of how obviously nasally she is. That and there just isn't many decently mixed live recordings
@@jerrycowan5905 I have always thought that anette's problem was not her lack of technique, her problem was that for so many dances and jumps she ran out of air for the high notes ........ in 2012 pregnant without so much dancing and jumping you could hear fantastic
@@jesusantonioechavarriadelgado I mean given how naselly she consistently sings amaranth even after leaving nightwish I would say technique is a big deal with her. Especially when she's shown a capacity to learn on that singing show when she did an opera piece

I wonder how it sounds if Tarja sings Anette's songs. I heard Floor singing her songs and they sounded soulless and cold. Anette has a warm voice and can sing different styles. On Imaginareum Tuomas wrote songs that fit perfect for her voice.

Ne slusam ovakvu vrstu muzike ali Nightwish je nekako poseban.😊

Anette é ótima no DPP e incrível no Imaginaerum. Eu prefiro a Floor, mas sugiro que respeite a Anette pelo que ela fez em sua era.

Anette was great live during the "Dark Passion Play" era so thanks for uploading a concert from that! I love these versions of "Ever Dream" and "Nemo"! Then something happened on the Imaginaerum tour. She's not nearly as good there, and it's a shame. I liked Anette but now it seems like everybody wants to forget this era, even the band.

Não sei como tem gente que consegue criticar a Annete. A mulher canta bem e tem uma puta interação com o público. Fui uma 'viúva da Tarja' e a princípio não gostei dela simplesmente pq ela não era a Tarja, mas depois de ouvir as músicas com ela não dá pra negar que ela era mto boa na banda.
Sério... não tem como ouvir Sleeping Sun com a Annete e dizer que ela não canta bem.

It's not her fault but she was simply not fit for NW. The bar had been set too high for her to be able to get close. The girl didn't even knew how to dress for a concert . Yet we must thank her for keeping the machine going.

Anette came into an impossible situation of being the Tara replacement and did a masterful job and has not to this day been given credit for the job she did and was rewarded miserable at the exit she was given but has never said anything bad about anyone in the nightwish organization and for that alone she should be and will be held in high regard!!!!!

I finally managed to enjoy this by pretending I was listening to a good rock band, and not Nightwish. Because if it is Nightwish, you compare to Floor and Tarja and get quite disgruntled

Todas las vocalistas que han pasado por la banda son dignas de ser recordadas como grandes. Anette Olzon era más melódica y dulce, Tarja poderosa y operística, Floor tiene un poco de ambas. Disfruten todas las etapas que al menos esta banda, a diferencia de otras, no disminuyó su calidad compositiva jamás.
I love Annette. Saucy, talented and she seems like the kind of gal who doesn't take sh*t from anyone. She's super cute and very Nordic looking. Seriously, she looks like she just stepped off a longboat or came sliding in behind some reindeer.
После ухода Тарьи я не смогла принять Аннет. Как и дальнейшее творчество группы. Я отреклась от них на много лет. Сейчас я понимаю, что Аннет прекрасный вокалист, и 2 альбомы с ее участием достойны всяческих похвал. А петь как "Тарья" может только сама Тарья.

@@talaniel Yes, THE POET song was included in set list and comes right before SLEEPING SUN, but idiots from TV chanel PTC1 are actually cutted off. Intro is Hans Zimmer, which the band used before every show. I don't know, but maybe somewhere on YT still exist performance THE POET from this festival, was separated in two parts. This was the best performance in whole show. I was there, trust me! Regards!

Floor is the best vocalist they had but only The Greatest Show on Earth, Pan, and Endlessness have been great since she came. I dunno why the massive downgrade on the songwriting. :(
I love the studio versions of dark passion play and now that i see this i understand the hate, but yoou have to admit that she is clearly focused on having fun not on singing :P

She's got the power and the pitch but I think what makes Anette sound so thin is (not to be disrespectful) is her accent. For example in Nemo, she pronounces "wish" as weesh, instead of "whush" which would give it a rounder/fuller sound. Just like some singers pronounce words "me" and "see" (Chester Bennington of Linkin Park for example) as "may" and "say" respectively... makes it sound fuller.

I’m still mad many people don’t give Anette her credit only because she has a “pop voice” (which by the way is no such thing.) she sings a clean vocal style and has shown can sing other styles like operatic singing.
The way she was treated was inexcusable.
She sang Dark Passion Play despite it not being suited for her as the album was being worked on while the band were searching for a new singer.
She got harassed at live concerts (which in my opinion has to be the stupidest thing a paying fan can do.)
She got death threats.
Got made fun of for wearing “non metal” outfits.
Was the victim of countless rumors between the fan base.
The years between Tarjas firing and Anettes introduction was THE WORST. I still remember the countless bitching and moaning about the new singer, the hate the poor woman got for being a replacement. It made me so ashamed I had to step away from the symphonic metal genre. While it wasn’t the only reason it was just one of many.
I’m glad she’s doing much better now with her two careers. sorry for my rant, we always hear about Tarja being mistreated (which to be fair, she probably was) but never about Anette.
Also, I think her rendition of Ever dream and Nemo are way better.
