    Brandon, I have a pair of 1988 88 SPLs mounted on a 20’ Sea Ox without the tilt and trim option. Motors and boat are in great shape and I would like to install T&T units on both. Would you have a reference or source I could turn to in order to ensure I’m approaching this correctly? Thanks and I truly enjoy your work. Thanks

    The movement of the piston dome is normal for that motor. The piston fit accommodates the high expansion alloy used in those pistons. That is why these motors are so noisy on cold starts and become quiet when warmed up. Hope that clears things up.

    Very useful. It took the mystery out of the repair. I have to do this soon cause the motor case is rust pitted so deep it’s just a matter of time before it fails. I’m not looking forward to removing the motor screws that are Phillips head. Any tips to help prevent them from breaking off or stripping?

    You mentioned potentially prying the transom mount apart to fit the unit out, is this doable without damage to the mount?

    Hey, great video. I just picked up a 96 version of the same motor. Is it normal for it to slow down and groan like that as you lower it past the halfway mark? I'm new to power tilt but I've worked on plenty of 80's and 90's Johnsons.

    What do you do when the upper pin for the PTT seizes up? Trying to pull the power trim and tilt on my 90 Yamaha and the pin doesn't seem to want to budge. I'm afraid of whacking it too hard and mushroom the end or breaking the casing.

      Aftermarket motor?
      My pontoon engine does this too. Its cables are about to die.
      Put your hand on the trim motor wires while going up, see if they get hot.

    Is there a way to bypass the trim so it wont auto trim down while at WOT? I cant maximize my speed because I cant control the trim once WOT. :( Any advice would be awesome.

    Ball park figure on what a job like this for a "99" 50 HP Johnson would cost.

      To remove? Install? or rebuild?

    • @dennisshafer7696
      @dennisshafer7696 4 года назад

      I think maybe I could take it off, so just rebuild. If I can't take off then all the above.
