    It feels kinda crazy how little the panthers were talked about across the internet and media in a series where they won the cup. I swear 85% of conversations were about the Oilers. Glad the Panthers got the cup and hopefully they get the respect they deserve

      Winning the presidents trophy then getting swept in 2nd round and rebuilding the team to squeak in playoffs and make a run to cup and lose and then come back in next year and win is a great story. But once it got to the Cup Final it was all about Oilers “deserving” to win.

      People are still talking how "Florida did not deserve this cup". So, the Oilers were the ones who deserved the cup? The Panthers, in a space of only 4 years:
      - won the Presidents' Trophy;
      - went to the finals since 1996;
      - went to back-to-back finals;
      - won back-to-back Prince of Wales trophies;
      - won two Atlantic Division Champion titles;
      - eliminated what's probably the strongest Boston Bruins team in their franchise history, while being the last team to enter playoffs by a single point;
      - eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning, their state rivals, for the first time in franchise history;
      - eliminated the Presidents' Trophy winner twice in a row;
      - went through the "Gauntlet of Goalies" by eliminating 3 of the best goaltenders in the league (Vasilevskiy, Swayman and Shesterkin);
      - won their first Stanley Cup.
      How do people even have the audacity to say that the Panthers didn't deserve the cup? Just because McDavid won the Conn Smythe, broke a few Gretzky records and the Oilers almost (emphasis on "almost") reverse swept the Panthers, doesn't mean that the Panthers didn't deserve this cup. Every single one of them battled a LOT to get here.

    Cats fan here. This Cup means a lot to the Florida Panthers. Not just to the organisation, which turned around years of futility and potential relocation into a staple of NHL hockey. But also for the future of the team and their ability to continue having on-ice success.
    Bill Zito built this team with the idea that this was the year. If they lost yesterday, their ability to retain their FAs would have taken a massive hit, and Paul Maurice would probably have been fired. They have little cap room and draft picks, so this would have put them in a terrible spot.
    But they won the Cup. All the moves now make it worth it. And their FAs might want to stick around for less money in order to repeat.
    This was the Panthers' shot, and it paid off. And as a fan, I couldn't be happier!

      Interesting statistic:
      With the Panthers' Stanley Cup, Florida becomes the 3rd-placed American state with more than one team to have multiple cups.
      - New York (Rangers, Islanders and Sabres) - 8 cups in total (Sabres have no cups)
      - Pennsylvania (Flyers and Penguins) - 7 cups in total
      - Florida (Lightning and Panthers) - 4 cups in total
      - California (Kings, Ducks and Sharks) - 3 cups in total (Sharks have no cups)
      All the other American Stanley Cup-winning teams are the sole team in their state, so they don't enter this list.

      Question: how do playoff ticket sales work with season tickets? I’ve been looking all over the web and I can’t find a good explanation on it. Do you get “first pick” and pay the SUPER HIGH prices? Is it a “first pick” but you pay a higher than normal but it’s not super high? I’m VERY much interested in getting season tickets and if being able to attend playoff games for a reasonable price is an option then that will increase my chances of diving into that world.

    • @chads4556
      @chads4556 4 дня назад +1

      @@CmRoddy Usually season ticket holders get to buy tickets for the seats they held during the season. They are held in a way until the season ticket holder accepts or declines them. If they are declined they go to general sales. That's my understanding. However season ticket holders still have to pay the super high prices. Being a season ticket holder doesn't necessarily get you a discount, it just gives you the chance to get your same seats.

    • @user-vc7ps6tk8i
      @user-vc7ps6tk8i 4 дня назад

      @@CmRoddy yes the Panthers (and most teams I believe) allow you to opt into your season ticket seats for the playoffs. You have to buy the entire postseason. They bill you for the maximum number of home games each round (3 or 4) as they advance. Each round of course goes up in price but the value is still way better than buying on the secondary market. Also you don’t have to pay fees. You got refunded or credited for games that do not take place.

    I do also think Reino re-signs on a relatively team-friendly deal. Montour is an interesting one, he's gonna have to accept a good bit lower than what early reports were suggesting (like early in the season I mean). He just isn't a 7+ mil player IMO, 2023 was an outlier year. I would still be fine with keeping him but if he's asking too much, I'm okay seeing him go. Of the other UFAs, Stenlund and Lomberg are the guys I wanna keep the most, followed by OEL. Tarasenko likely gets overpaid somewhere else and that's fine. Kulikov I can see staying on for cheap. Stolarz 1000% is gone, someone's gonna pay him to be a starter most likely, or at least a 1b. My pick/hope for him is Seattle.
    Obviously Spencer Knight should be the backup next year. Other guys that could come up, depending on roster spots available after the UFA dominoes fall, you've got Mackie Samoskevich and Justin Sourdif as the most NHL ready guys, they got some limited time early in the year. Mike Benning as a D-man is still really young, not sure where we stand on his progress yet but he's a guy I'm keeping an eye on. I've also wanted Lucas Carlsson to get a chance for so freakin long now but for whatever reason Paul Maurice just doesn't seem to wanna give him one. And who the hell am I to doubt him, especially at this point?

Lomburg and Cousins are some of the heart and soul guys of the team. I don’t think they will go anywhere. Kulikov I think will retire as a panthers. I could see Okposo retire after this, but I think the team will let him decide whether he stays or goes. I like Stendlund as our 4C and on the PK and I hope we keep him.
    I wouldn’t be surprised if Stolarz leaves for a 1a -1b roll somewhere like Calgary, Chicago, Colorado, or Columbus to guess a few teams. I’d love to keep him but we do have Spencer Knight and his contract and I think Knight will be the replacement for Bob when the time comes. I could tell in the first period of game 7 that the Oilers were not going to be able to run and gun against the cats on this night like they had the previous 3 games. Those 3 prior games Oilers looked unstoppable at times, what a strange series. Game 7 was played on the Panthers' terms. You don't know how a team is going to play until they are up against it.

    Tkachuk made a brilliant defensive play on McDavid going between 97's legs to prevent a scoring opportunity in game one (?). It was a highlight of the series for me. Paul Maurice was still talking about it later in the series.

    I feel like Verhaeghe flew under the radar all post season. Meaning, he didn't have a target on him, nobody was super excited and focused on him and he quietly put up great numbers. That redirect though 👀👀👀👀 the man has that innate ability to come up with something from almost nothing. Sam Rhinehart needs to re-sign in Florida. I could see him improve his numbers over this season. I can definitely see the Panthers putting together a great season again. Let's hope for another deep run.

    People need to understand, South Florida is a vacation destination. Yea the Panthers use to have an empty arena, because there’s too many entertainment options for people to waste their money on a team that’s not serious about winning. The reason the Heat are supported the way they are is because to the track record. If the Panthers can keep this level of performance and competence rolling there will be no lack of fans in seats. You have to incentivize people to show up, giving them a good product is the best way to do that.
    We love the Panthers down here, they just didn’t love us back for years. The Marlins currently are the same way the old Panthers were. You can’t continuously sell all your talent, refuse to pay players when it’s time to, and then complain fans don’t support the team when you haven’t given them a single reason to.
    There’s a different event happening every night down here music, sports, all forms of entertainment are competing with each other down here. You won’t get attention if you have a bad product. Bottom line.

    The media may not want to admit it, "traditional" fanbases in Canada may not want to speak it. But Florida is now a bonafide contending franchise. They have three Stanley Cup trips, a President's trophy, and now a Stanley Cup Championship. They have invested in facilities, have a growing fanbase that has a reason to stick around with a championship pedigree.
    They are here to stay. Just like Vegas. It took the Lightning twenty years of winning with three championships to "establish" themselves. Meanwhile Ottawa has no championships and they came into the league the same year, but they get a pass.
    Congrats to the Cats!!!

      Tbf, I'd be totally fine if we traded away Spencer Knight. He's a good kid, but he eats a lot of cap space for someone in the AHL. Cooper Black is a 6'8 goalie and has been given a 3-year ELC somewhere around the trade deadline. My opinion is:
      - Trade away Knight
      - Resign Stolarz and keep him until Black is available to play.
      If Bob decides to stop his career here, it's fine. Stolarz proved to be an extremely solid backup.
