Any type of musical cover is an interpretation of the original by the performer. Granted that a great way to learn new licks is to try and mimic the original. It's a fun and fantastic way to learn and make yourself better. Some songs are relatively easy to match the original note for note. Covering Peart is more challenging as is Rush music in general. They change up time, tempo, and utilize a good bit of syncopated stuff. Trying to cover Peart is a great way to expand your knowledge base

What struck me first was the bass drum tone, seeing the cam explained why: big pillow + wood beater = wet/ warm sound. Beautiful kit with unique tuning, love the tuning of the toms. I'm guessing paiste cymbals, wait no, sabian? Who cares, sounds amazing being played by you sir! Superb stick control and feel, all in all a first rate drummer.

true, but keep in mind you have to talk to all diffrent types of musicians ( as specially other drumers ) about your technique on a regular basis, in order to keep your druming fresh and develop your own style. There is no way to become an amazing drummer without communicating with other people about your passion.
You know when you just love something so much that you can’t find the best way to express it? Well that’s how I feel about Rush and Neil Peart. I just can’t get this song out of my head man. It’s fucking awesome

it takes alot of stamina to play like neil peart,but you did a very good job
wasnt terrible at all man, not easy to play any rush lol. pretty good i'd say, just one piece of advice, weather its cuz theres a cam there er watever it is, just try to relax a little more when ur playing, u will c that ull play smoother.

@brady2346 i know a few people that have another base pedal beside just for a different tension, the will do heal toe better on the pedal with the other tension than the one they normally use. WHY? Because if your playing a song with a lot of base, sometimes you want a loose pedal so its easy on your leg, yet you can brake down with the other peddle if you need to ^.^ IDK if this is what he did, but just an insight :)

I think if you turn the sound way down and just watch how he plays it I would give him an A. How many tracks did Neil cut before the final version was released. Most musicians don't play their own material the same way Everytime. Give the man a break, he is jamming along with one of the best bands of all time who happen to have a Demi God for a drummer, and those are some very large shoes to try and fill. Those who are heavy on the criticism should step up and present what it is that you can do. Putting down others does nothing to increase your abilities in music or in life. When Neil watches your video and goes Damn That's how that song should be played!! Then the soap box and floor is all yours to shit talk all you want. Until that time keep it real and to your self. Who the hell cares if he doesn't play every single fill the same as Neil? Isn't music more about self expression more than anything else? If Neil plays it the same every time, that's totally cool. But this guy doesn't have to, seriously. Leave off.

I try to show respect to all drummers. That said, this guy wasn't too strong on a song that should have had more precision.

So I will probably never post a video on youtube because, in opposite of you, I do not think uploading covers like yours of Avenged Sevenfold, is usefull on youtube. It would only show all the improvement you still have to do.

Agreed. Technically It was close.
Just a little stiff on groove, and hurried the fills and associated crashes at the end of most of the fills. The drummer is obviously skilled. Because it's Peart, getting it note for note, technically, (which I think is appropriate) AND playing with good groove is a challenge.
Get the technical down, then play it until you relax the groove a little. It's Rock&Roll, after all, and it's gotta swing.
This along with your YYZ cover are pretty good, but I hate the sound of your snare in both videos.. it's so annoying lol.

Me too. More impressed with her capturing the essence of so many of the passages without ever having even heard the original drum track. To be fair to this dude though, trying to perform a Neil Peart cover is always going to be a losing proposition, Rush fans are obsessives who will know immediately when the tone or phrasing is the least bit off.

I love rush and this song but the toms in my opinion sound horrible I think due to the mics you can't even appreciate the best part which is the ending there's a heavy guy astrodrummer I think who does rush covers his is a million times better no disrespect to the drummer

i noted you practise nothing because the vital small drum fills are totaly improvised. it could be a lot beter. and wtf the bass???? it sound horrible. the other 60% of the song is well
