@@Travelwithchris For sure, definitely Despotovac and Manasija (Resava) Monastery. But you're right when you say that every serbian town has a castle haha, this town was the home of Despot (King) Stefan Lazarevic.
Not big as Belgrade, but I love it. Best food, people, places to visit. But because of corona, there arent that much people in the center of city like usually, because many stores are closed after 18:00PM. Greetings and respect from Niš ! 🇷🇸 🍻
You missed many spots in Nis 😁😅 Next time go to Niska Banja, it's 10- 15 minutes ride by car, Sicevo George, made by Nisava river with unique flora and fauna and canyon-like structures, Jelasnica George too is very nice. Chegar is historical place to see to as it's connected with Skull Tower you have seen and Cerje cave that is one of the oldest and second-longest cave with a plaque to sit, drink and enjoy the site. ;) Also, Medijana, a place where rich people of the Roman Empire lived, with a villa where Constantine the Great was born. And Nish key is a place to be during warmer times as it's a gathering spot for youth to drink, talk, and chill. Welcome to Serbia!!! 🎈🎈🎈
Hi and welcome to Niš, I'm a lawyer in Niš..thanks for visiting, just started watching this video and I want to add a notice, the bill you got for ordering a coffee, they must give a bill because if thay don't it's a fine ,they have to pay the taxes for every meal or food they sell so don't worry it's our law it doesn't mean that you've been rushed ..just relax and enjoy.🙂
You can be rushed some place else especially in the USA with or without a bill, but not in Serbia my friend! Bringing a bill with a coffee is a good thing and actually mandatory by the law in the whole region. If the business owner /server doesn't bring a bill to your table right away and get a cut by tax inspectors he or she will get a ticket. That means also that you as a foreigner are more than welcome and that you will be charged the same price like a locals and not get robbed just because your are an American which often happened in the past...
You should definitely eat in Meze too. In my opinion it's better than Biser. Enjoy in our city! Ps. the bill thing is common here, you can order something more, they just bring you one more bill, at the end you ofc pay all together, no need to rush.
In Serbia, there is no time limit on how long you can sit in a cafe, you can spend hours, the fact that they brought the bill is mainly due to our law on fiscal bills. The restaurants will bring a bill at the end of the meal. Only in restaurants where an appointment is booked can you be expected to have a certain period of time in which the reservation is valid.
5:00 They usually leave the bill and it's not to rush you... During the summer, cafes are pretty busy so they leave the bill when they give you your order so later when you want to leave, you can just leave cash and leave the cafe so you don't have to wait for the waiter to get to you 😄 It's just a common practice, you can spend as much time at the Cafe as you wish :) and they leave it underneath the ashtray or in a shot glass so the wind doesn't blow it away.
"Skull Tower is a stone structure embedded with human skulls located in Niš,Serbia It was constructed by the Ottomans following the Battle of Čegar of May 1809, during the First Serbian Uprising. During the battle, Serbian rebels under the command of Stevan Sinđelić were surrounded by the Ottomans on Čegar Hill, near Niš. Knowing that he and his fighters would be impaled if captured, Sinđelić detonated a powder magazine within the rebel entrenchment, killing himself, his subordinates and the encroaching Ottoman soldiers. The governor of the Rumelia Eyalet, Hurshid Pasha, ordered that a tower be made from the skulls of the fallen rebels. The tower is 4.5 metres (15 ft) high, and originally contained 952 skulls embedded on four sides in 14 rows." ruclips.net/video/NOBIUePZN_g/видео.html Duke (vojvoda) Stevan Sindjelic one of the bigest Serbian son. What makes Belgrade truly worth visiting is the fact that it is still very unknown and unexplored for tourists - you can enjoy your holiday without huge crowds around you. If you have never been to the Balkans and you want to start exploring the region - Serbia, and especially Belgrade, is definitely a good start.
Chris on your way back I highly recommend to stop by to see one of the most beautiful monasteries, Manasija, its nearby Despotovac.. Couple of more cool stuff to see there like Resava cave, some cool waterfalls (Lisine, Veliki Buk), etc.. :) Also when you were in Vojvodina, you should have checked out Sombor, in my opinion equally nice as Subotica. I love when i see someone who is always smiling like you, its so positive and makes me feel good and keep it up❤️. And i want to recommend you to go in kafana which is called "Nišlijska mehana" its near the center of the city and it is my favorite one.
you got the bill because it is somehow prescribed by law and because of the inspection, people understand it differently, that someone is rushing you or something like that. sellers are simply obliged to submit an invoice after each order, and you simply know how much you drank and ate, unless all at once on the same invoice food and drink as in restaurants or cafes.
Chris, just a friendly suggestion if you want your channel to grow and be appreciated, because I see you put effort into making the videos. You should consider your language when you visit certain historical places. The Skull Tower is a memorial place of great tragedy. Ottoman empire, after winning the battle of Čegar imposed taxes for Serbian people in order to build tower made of skulls of their loved ones. People risked their lives trying to bury the remains, that's why there aren't many skulls left. Also, it was not covered for 70 years so the weather destroyed it too. To say it is "cool" and "so sick" might not be the best choice of words even if you consider this a chill and easy going platform. I am sure you understand since you did show respect for the victims of concentration camp. Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Keep up the good work. 🍻

Everyone in Serbia knows that the best food is in Niš. :) You have restaurants at every turn and they all prepare great food. You visit one of the oldest cities in Europe and get to know only a few things about it, and only from the last 200 years of its history. :)
In Knjaževac you can visit our museum and the Gurgusovac Tower (the Turks built it in the 18th century) and in Knjaževac you can find one of the best bureks in Serbia.
Old name for Niš or Nish is Naissus. Naissus is third the most important and third the richest city in Byzantine empire. Nish is also 3rd the bigest city in Serbia, around 270 000 people. First is Belgrade 1,7 milions, second Novi Sad 340 000.

I came across your channel today. I like it because my ancestors were from southern Serbia. Another question: You, Chris, are going on a world tour, and what kind of adventure is Itamar doing in Serbia?
Thank you so much! I've been traveling the world for the last three years :) Itamar was only in Serbia for a few months as well. Now he is back in Israel working :)

Everyone in Serbia knows that the best food is in Niš. :) You have restaurants at every turn and they all prepare great food.
You visit one of the oldest cities in Europe and get to know only a few things about it, and only from the last 200 years of its history. :)
Everything I've had so far while here has been amazing!
You are near my town Knjazevac ( Nis - Knjazevac it's about 80km) and if you want visit us.
I wish I had time! Hope to make it back down!
In Knjaževac you can visit our museum and the Gurgusovac Tower (the Turks built it in the 18th century) and in Knjaževac you can find one of the best bureks in Serbia.
Love your vlogs. There is also a synagogue in Niš to visit :)
We visited it! Right behind the McDonalds right?
Yes :)
@@Travelwithchris U can see in Niš synagogue, mosque, churches, every religion can live here in peace 😄🙏
When it's sunny and cold in Serbia some people like to say it's "zubato sunce" which means toothed sunbeam or sun with teeth.
That's cool! Ahahah
Old name for Niš or Nish is Naissus. Naissus is third the most important and third the richest city in Byzantine empire. Nish is also 3rd the bigest city in Serbia, around 270 000 people.
First is Belgrade 1,7 milions, second Novi Sad 340 000.
Wow thank you for that information!
It would be nice if you share prices of food and logding
