- Our friends have lent us a motion activated night vision trail camera.
We've been wondering what animals live in our woods.
After several weeks of waiting for action, we share what the camera saw.
Plus we share some behind the scenes footage of how we made this video.

Hi there. I grew up in Portugal, my family moved there when I and my brothers and sisters were around 9 and 10 years old and lived there for 27 years. I'm now back in the UK. Loved the behind the scenes shots😂😂 I suspect that there will always be wild boar and deer somewhere nearby, sharing your environment. Nature at its best. Glad that you have not seen too many wild boar though as they can be quite destructive to gardens. Hoping Dan is back soon.
Thanks Christine. We agree with you. It’s lovely that we have a habitat for the animals so hopefully they’ll stick to their space and leave our vegetables and trees alone. We had such fun making this video. I think Dan could be away for a few more weeks.

You're right, the landscape here is much greener and lush than in the south. It's truly magical to see.

Hello Daniela, from not so far away, Ballarat 😻 These folk are a delight.
So nice to see you both -- you seem like such nice people. In an earlier video, the little lady scared the hell out of me --- swinging the ax, I feared if she missed the chunk of wood, the blade would go right through her shin. Yes, if I didn't worry, I'd have no hobby at all. Aside from that it's always good fun. Watch out for the wild boar -- if it's too hungry, either one of you would be good eatin'. And BTW, sorry if this is too nosey, but it looks so rural, how much land do you have???? The acres seen to go on and on!!!! Writing in Manhattan, where I have to make do with Central Park as my backyard, I'm absolutely green with envy.
It’s quite a modest place, about an acre and three fourths.

Love the behind-the-scenes activities!!!!!! for your sake I wish for Dan to come back real soon, as you must be lonely. It was nice to see the wildlife in the woods, but as a child I was so scared of the raposa (fox), but the last time I was in Portugal my sister told me about the wild boars, now they are at the top of my list. Here in Canada, we have big scary ones in our woods, bears, moose, and many types of deer etc. But I live in the city, and most of the very scary Wildlife is on 2 legs. That soup you made looked so Yummy Good, I shall try to copy and make some for us. Take care and stay safe from those wild boars, and tell Dan to back soon, we all miss him, as you 2 make a very nice Twosome.
Thank goodness I don’t get lonely. But I sure miss Dan’s company and cooking. His soups are delicious.

Been enjoying your videos even though they have brought me a stir of emotions. I was born on the Azores and came to Canada at the age of 9. I sincerely miss my motherland. I would move back in a heartbeat if my family would consider going along with me. We are all attached at the hip. Just the way I like it. haha Which part of Portugal are you living, if you don't mind my asking. xx

Where do you cook and sleep, the buildings on the property seemed to be in really bad shape? Please show us the renovations if any! I enjoy your channel and find many useful preserving techniques!

Great work setting up the TrailCam,its always interesting to see whats lurking. I started using TrailCams in my wood 2 years ago,and have caught nice deer,badgers,birds,stoats and all sorts of antics as they passby,which i post on my channel also. I used to take it up and down,but now i keep it going all the time in different locations,and just switch the sd card. Its always so much fun to check it on the computer,often with some nice surprises. The first clip you showed was a larger bird,which i was wondering if it was a Jay? I am quite passionate about the birds here in the Uk,and am interested to see what species you have there,in Portugal. Hope you can keep the TrailCam going some more. I use the Wimius H8 which has served me well. Best wishes from Devon
Camera is rolling and catching new animals but not always great images. Badger, fox, mongoose, rabbit and a woodpecker.
Location changes every so often. It might be a jay you saw. We have a great variety of birds here. Raptors too. 😊👍

As i mentioned,if you wanted nice clear images(apart from lenses fogging up sometimes of course),i would recommend the Wimius H8 which is less than 100 pounds,and a pleasure to use. 🙂🙏🐦

Temperature was 43 in the shade last year. Crazy hot. A good bit cooler closer to the coast on the west side of Coimbra. Oh, and thank you for the subscribe. Keep watching 😊

We’re an hour from the coast. The temperature is usually in high 30’s and was at over 40 for about 2 weeks. 🥵

I love the light hearted take on life. But on a more serious not. Both deer and boar can ruin a garden in one night. I hope you are taking precautions to protect your garden and young trees.
So far so good. We keep habitat for them and some for us. The asparagus are enclosed in a fenced area. I send Dan out to pee around the place. Marking our territory so to speak but don’t worry, there’ll be no footage. 😊
Do they allow you to hunt those animals in Portugal?
Yes. They can be hunted with correct licences and permits.
Do you have to cut the olives back every year 😮
They have to be pruned each year and hard pruned if they've been neglected
