    Beautiful video with the forest and veggie plots you can see the meditarranean winter cold but not extremely cold. I remember the amount of big brown mushrooms we used to get from a pine forest.

    If you have tomatoes, make ratatouille and can it. It is a quick meal and delicious. I love that you wear overalls. In the winter you can wear coveralls for a little more warmth. I was in Portugal in winter, but mainly on the coast. I think everybody from away loves Portugal. I wanted to retire to East Europe, but after the attacks on airplanes, I stayed in the States. Portugal would have been a better choice than E. Europe. I just wanted a slower pace than U. S. after teaching in Hungary.

I've observed you really upping your video creation and want you to know I very much appreciate the hard work and creativity, quality into that part of your work. Your garden is looking amazing. Very, very funny about the fallic shaped mushroom that smells like rotting human flesh.

    Ola amigos !
    I’m French from Bretagne, 60, settled in Porto, with my Colombian girlfriend Aurora since 2020. Although I’m neither a veggie nor a countryside type, I’m a true admirer of your darings and I’m delighted with your story and adventures. I’m an eco-friendly person, sailing-child, Açores lover, Brompton-cyclist, and vegetables eater (but not only ;). If ever you’re around in Porto, we might have a drink and conversation so we could share impressions and experiences of Portugal and have fun.
    Cheers

    Just discovered your videos, you guys seem like cool dudes and I wish you the best.....just one thing when picking mushies, try taking a knife and slicing off at ground level instead of disturbing the mycelium etc plus it means you take home clean mushies too!

    • @NearbyVeggies
      @NearbyVeggies  Год назад

      I've always been at odds with that choice. Mr Paul Stamets, whose book Mycellium Running I have seems to use both methods. I think as you suggest, the boletes could be cut rather than plucked. Thank you.

      @@NearbyVeggies Cool, thanks heaps for replying.....you prompted me to do some more research and you're spot on about the two schools of thought. I'll keep cutting mine I reckon purely because I like taking home clean, crunch free mushies haha.

    After very, very diligently removing seeds from chilies for 50 years, I learned just a few weeks ago that the white membrane carries the heat. So now I carefully remove every speck of white. Somebody is spreading rumors about old dogs and tricks.

    • @NearbyVeggies
      @NearbyVeggies  Год назад +1

      I like the heat. Eat a handful of seeds to confirm if it's true. :-)

      @@NearbyVeggies while my heat tolerance is somewhat limited, my husband is a total wimp. BTW, I learned from a Mexican grocery worker that to use jalapeños in soups instead of black pepper. They cook down totally. It gives certain soups a different taste dimension.

    10 kgs per liter of oil! wow.. that makes one repsects the amount of harvest that is needed to produce high quality olive oil for sure... that is about 6-7 weeks of "liberal" use.... (?)
