    I went to Gui’s seminar in 2016 over in San Francisco, Ca and man, all I have to say is, Gui is the Pablo Picasso of Jiu-Jitsu. Everything he does is a work of art.

    Could someone please tell me how Gui could not only let his opponent put him in that deep toe hold but also turned into it to make it worse, then not tape or even change his facial expression the whole time? He didn't even address the submission attempt by bringing his hands/arms into the game when he had the opportunity. He slightly rolled Yuuta over a bit (1:21)which I imagine might have relieved some of the tension on his foot but then just let him roll right back into it.

    • @ChristopherOden
      @ChristopherOden 9 лет назад +1

      TWoN I believe he turned that way (CCW) because if he turned out (CW) he would have actually made the toe hold worse, he's gotta turn with it. Why he didn't tap? That's beyond me but I'm sure he's been caught with it enough times to know his own breaking point. If he had brought his hands down to address the issue he would have compromised his base and ain't nothing worse then trying to shut down a toe hold while on your back.

      watch him get foot lock by one of the miyao it looks pain full they both did it to each other but non tap

      Even more impressive, when he was actually in a position to reach down and break the grip with his hands, he completely ignores it and plays around with some grips instead.

    • @briangorman9713
      @briangorman9713 8 лет назад +6

      +Tommy Starkey that was not an arm drag. that was a collar drag. low risk, high reward move. you can see here he wasn't quite successful with it, and the attempt left him in no danger.

    6:23 how did he get out of that baseball choke?!

    • @bryanjordan8876
      @bryanjordan8876 4 года назад

      Yeah it was tight. I guess he just off balanced Mendes and it relieved the choke. Mendes could keep choking but it would have put himself in a bad situation if he COULDN'T finish the choke so it was best to just let that one go.
      This was such a good match.

    The fact remains that Gui was caught in a legitimate submission hold regardless of whether or not he tapped to the submission. The problem is that in sport one generally applies gradual pressure until tap. Imagine if the opponent had simply violently driven through the foot/twisted with torque, and broken it at the ankle? I've seen it happen/done before. Regardless of whether or not there would have been a tap, there would have been a broken foot and Gui would have not been able to continue (most likely). The submission in Jiu-jitsu is an acknowledgement of when one is caught and that the opponent allowed for the tap to happen. Having said that, there is no way Gui would ever tap to a foot-lock I am guessing.

      +Hot Steppa People generally apply as much pressure as they can in competitions, especially when they are getting clowned.

    • @psytron939
      @psytron939 8 лет назад +1

      Man both brothers are seriously impossible to tap with a toe hold or foot locks. They have thoses weird flexibility with their ankles, i have it too. People seriously crank it and i dont really feel it. Some people just have that. They dont care if you go for the foot, its usually not even a struggle for them

    • @nathancooper461
      @nathancooper461 8 лет назад +1

    • @AlejandroGonzalez-wo5fk
      @AlejandroGonzalez-wo5fk 5 лет назад

      Toe holds are nasty but theyre not as traumatizing as say arm bars so I guess you could technically fight with a busted foot, especially if your used to that amount of pain regularly
