Along with the brave Peshmerga, hundreds of thousands of people, mostly from the center and south of Iraq, volunteered to fight ISIS. A lot of them were just civilians with no military experience. Wherever you go around Iraq, you'll see pictures of these young people on walls and streets, people who died protecting their country. 😢 I lost my uncle and his son there. My dad also fought but fortunately survived. (It all happened after Al-Maliki, the failed former prime minister, ordered the withdrawal of the official army.) When I was little, almost every day we heard neighbors crying because they got news of their family member's death after fighting ISIS. And there was a funeral every day. I was so scared when my dad went there...
