Running nix with channels is old school, flakes is the new paradigm
Thanks for the heads up, will check out flakes.
I just moved my dev env over to Nix on my Mac. I can finally easily transport my Linux desktop configs over to my Mac without missing a beat. For development it's been a game changer.
Nix is proving to be pretty handy
This nix package manager is pretty cool! I think all my needs on my Arch based desktop (AUR) could exist with Void + Nix's package manager. Just about everything. Plotting a migration now.
It is definitely a big help to anyone who wants to use void but camd find certain packages in the main or src repos.
Jake , great video. You definitely are making me think about using it on my desktop. I want the stability of Debian , but I hate that everything is so out of date. Nix might be the answer. Also, have a great week. You are always in my thoughts and prayers brother. All the best to your family.
Thanks Scott, I appreciate it.
Finally nix, i've been waiting for this
Well, wait no more.
the guys name is tom on the internet? thats so cool. kinda like cher or spiderman.
He's a good guy, I enjoy his content.
gentoo could be finally usable
Great video as usual!
Thanks!
Maybe somebody would buy you a coffee if you explain stuff in a understandable way
Fair enough, help me fix whats wrong, what was not understandable about this?
Hello Jake! Can you make a video how to set up audio on void linux?I followed every youtube video and every linux forums but I can't set up audio,I used arch for 2 years but setting up audio successful only one time and that was pulseaudio.I moved to void around 6 months ago.Since then,I couldn't set up audio,Pure alsa,or pulse, or pipewire, none of them success, living without audio on my system.Don't mind me.I'm so nob when it comes to audio:(
I can, but I think there are kernel issues with the audio, what kernel are you running?
@@JakeLinux it's 6.1.28,I just messed up with audio things; I'm still figuring that out. Thanks Jake:
Did you know in nix builds and executes software using base64
I did not know that, interesting
Yeah it’s great and you have only just scratched the surface
That's what I hear
Man you just keep doing the same thing as me
Great minds, right.
Jake i vote Nix GVJ.
Thanks, I think trying nix is inevitable at this point.
Not a good sound tho, bro...
What sound is that?
@@JakeLinux I don't know, some background noise. Sound is not clear. Is it just me?
@@JakeLinuxI also heard some background noise during your video..
This is super misleading and inaccurate
How so? It is not my intention to be misleading and I would like to know when I am incorrect, can only improve if people let me know when I am wrong.
@@JakeLinux cause you're leaving out huge chunks of details and making it seem as if this process is something that you only need a few programs or apps for. And that it's universal or pretty standard across the board when everybody's phone is going to be configured different everybody's build every version of every app or distro is buggy as crap and I'm done had to try to download some of this stuff from Torrance that's not working and nobody is explaining or even trying to explain what to look for or where to look for repositories and directories and even why you need those and how to apply them. You make it seem like it's copy and paste and you're done. And none of these code editors really do anything because everyone I've tried has been nothing but errors errors errors having to try to configure this or set that up and after so much time invested and no progress it's about time to wrap it up because this is turning out to just really be a waste of time. I was just trying to install some osint programs like Sherlock in trying to figure out Lucky patcher but you've got to go through 159 steps to even get to step One.
Fair point, but if you read the title, I am not claiming this is a full tutorial, I am just giving three tips on using the nix package manager, I get that there are a lot of variables that you have to take into consideration, but this video is not intended to take on those issues, this was just to show a few cool things about nix and it assumes you have it installed already. Hopefully that makes sense.
