@Ffojt Because the rum balls are not cooked in any way, the alcohol will not "cook off" - so there will still be alcohol in the final product. But it should be noted that 1 tablespoon of Rum for every 30-50 balls is almost nothing, so I wouldn't worry about anyone getting drunk!
@MarryMeLancel No, the alcohol won't burn out. But there is such a small amount of alcohol in this recipe it shouldn't be an issue. You'd have to eat hundreds of them to even get close to drunk! If you like, you can use Rum Flavoring instead ;)
Love this recipe! Made them last Christmas and they were amazing! Making them again this year! Only I used about 30 ml of rum instead of just 1 teaspoon. But it was delicious and just the right amount of rum flavor!
@alwy963 Basically, melting chocolate with a double boiler allows the chocolate to remain glossy when it re-sets (if you are using it to coat something) However, if the melted chocolate is going to be mixed with other ingredients (like this recipe) that isn't necessary ;)
@katiebaby1 Don't use wine. I recommend using a liqueur like Kahlua, Bailey's or Tia Maria. You could also use something non-alcoholic like Vanilla Essence, Orange Essence or Peppermint Essence ;)
i make them very often but alos very difren't :P i Use 500g butter 2dl rum 500g albert biscuts 150g icing sugar 250g whole nuts(crushed) 150g coco powder 150g coco nut
These are the rum balls I know and loved as a child, though the ones I used to eat had real rum in them. I used to get drunk at school on a few of them
First off wanted to tell you how much I love your recipes! Now that I've gotten that out of the way not sure if anyone has asked, but I was wondering what type of rum would you reccomend? I have spiced rum at home now, would that work?
Hi David! I have a question, will the alcohol burn out of the rum if you mix it in with the heated chocolate? Or will it be ok? Thanks for the recipe =]
I made this today :o but instead of using regular biscuit , I used Oreo and I also skip the rum. So it tastes more like Oreo balls than and a rum ball lol. But I still love it . I followed your steps and its as easy as it seems :o thank you! I hope you make more no-oven/microwave simple food recipes :o
Thank you so much for posting this Chef! (I have a bottle of malibu mint rum I need to make good use of lol) All of your videos are great...and I have to say, you have the most BEAUTIFUL eyes I've ever seen! Happy Cooking sweetie xo
oooh they look awesome, I love Rum balls and always happy to see them at parties etc, i have never made them, but actually they look so simple to do, and I am going to give them a try, thanks So much:)))
Great recipe!! Can't wait to make it!! (Ps. Why do people watch the video THEN ask questions that you've already covered IN the video?!?!?! Man that must frustrate you?! But good on you for still answering them anyways!) :-)
@MrButterworth24 To be honest, I used a bad recipe. I'm certain it had a misprint or a missing ingredient. Realistically it was just frozen chocolate ganache, and I couldn't figure out how that could work - which it didn't!
Made these today. I added some rum to the chocolate and it seized. I did add some whipping cream to it and solved the problem, but just for future notice, maybe you can tell me your's didn't seize when you added the rum extract?
Do I have to put it on the fridge for only 10-15 minutes? Because I made too many of rum balls and I'm afraid if I keep it on the fridge till tommorow, it will be frozen.
When I added the rum flavouring to the melted chocolate, the chocolate went totally stiff, So I had to do another batch of melted chocolate, and instead I added the rum flavouring to the carnation Milk & biscuit mixture & that worked fine ;)
We don't have 'dessicated' coconut here in the US. We have coconut flakes, which are big, moist, and filled with chemicals...probably not the same. Also, it would be very helpful if you can provide the name brand of the biscuits you use. Even though we don't have all the same brands in the US, we do have some import shops where we can buy UK/Aussie things. Thanks!
Great Video i would Rather use a Bourbon lol but off course it is up to the individual i Remember making these as School when i was younger but now i would make them with Real Rum or what ever and good i idea on the irish Cream

@OnePotChefShow They are omgg!!! My grandparents bought them in the 70s and wouldn't throw them out LOL.
Some random fact: These are "Rumkugeln" in Germany. There's also a verb "rumkugeln" which means "rolling around" :D
Another tip,you can also use peppermint oil or extract to replace te rum
Love this recipe! Made them last Christmas and they were amazing! Making them again this year! Only I used about 30 ml of rum instead of just 1 teaspoon. But it was delicious and just the right amount of rum flavor!
i did this once, but used mint essence instead of the rum. They were goooood.
Thank you for putting the recipe in the description! Too many channels don't.

Your vids are great, short, fun, and concise. Thx One Pot!
i make them very often but alos very difren't :P
i Use
500g butter
2dl rum
500g albert biscuts
150g icing sugar
250g whole nuts(crushed)
150g coco powder
150g coco nut
Oh I love the way you explain things, it makes it so much easy to prepare all the yummy food, thank you very much, Merry Christmas to you :D
@MsIzzy805 No, you can use something else if you like. Peppermint Essence is good ;)
These are the rum balls I know and loved as a child, though the ones I used to eat had real rum in them. I used to get drunk at school on a few of them
Use vanilla essence, peppermint essence etc ;)
@Knittingand Absolutely - Chocolate Peppermint Balls are awesome. You could also use Vanilla or even Orange Essence :)
Rum Balls always say Christmas to me. Yum.
I appreciate that u told me to get the rum flavoring instead of real stuff since i am a recovering addict- thanks
OMFRIGGINGOODNESS!!! YOU ARE BACK AND I DIDN"T EVEN KNOW TILL NOW!!! I MISSED YOU, DAVID!!!
You can leave the rum out, or use a different flavouring. Peppermint Essence is good ;)
Yes, you can use anything you like ;)
thank you for considering people who do not drink when making this video. i appreciate it. these look delicious! must try soon :)
This recipe makes 30-50 rum balls (depending on size) so it's not really that much condensed milk. The end result isn't overly sweet ;)
Delish! We make rum balls every Christmas but I never thought of using sprinkles. I'm going to try it now :)
Yuuuuuummmmm. Give them to a friend... Are you serious? Give them to meeeeeeeeeee!!! Lol
@Noi610 Use any liqueur you prefer, or use a food flavoring like peppermint essence / orange essence / vanilla essence etc ;)
@jezika87 A spiced rum would be fine. Any dark rum would be suitable for this recipe ;)
@xWithBrokenWingsx Wow it does too - I hadn't noticed that!
@raggya Yes, you could use cake crumbs instead ;)
Should these be stored in the fridge and taken out a few minutes before serving?
First off wanted to tell you how much I love your recipes! Now that I've gotten that out of the way not sure if anyone has asked, but I was wondering what type of rum would you reccomend? I have spiced rum at home now, would that work?
chocolate rum balls are my favorite! you have great tasty balls Dave!
Yes, that's fine ;)
Hi David! I have a question, will the alcohol burn out of the rum if you mix it in with the heated chocolate? Or will it be ok? Thanks for the recipe =]
@MixedBerries275 You can replace the rum with something else. Try peppermint essence or coffee essence ;)
im really glad i found this channel!
when you melt the chocolate do you add some milk or butter? or just the chocolate?
Just wanted to say that this guy seems to have a nice, clear voice.
I made this today :o but instead of using regular biscuit , I used Oreo and I also skip the rum. So it tastes more like Oreo balls than and a rum ball lol. But I still love it . @TheHammasali This is covered in the video :)

Ty One Pot Chef!😋🎄
I made these today, bought artificial brandy flavouring by accident but they turned out pretty awesome thanks dave :)
Instead of the coconut can we substitute it with something else or just omit it all together? P.S. love LOVE your channel! :)
Wow !! Can i make them without coconut powder ?
"Something sweet and naughty..."
Oh my. Your voice. Smooth like chocolate and just as alluring.
Thank you so much for posting this Chef! (I have a bottle of malibu mint rum I need to make good use of lol)
All of your videos are great...and I have to say, you have the most BEAUTIFUL eyes I've ever seen!
Happy Cooking sweetie xo

+Tracy Jones Yes, any of these would be fine ;)

oooh they look awesome, I love Rum balls and always happy to see them at parties etc, i have never made them, but actually they look so simple to do, and I am going to give them a try, thanks So much:)))
I once made chocolate balls and ate them and they were soooooooooo goooooood!!!!
Great recipe!! Can't wait to make it!!
(Ps. Why do people watch the video THEN ask questions that you've already covered IN the video?!?!?! Man that must frustrate you?! But good on you for still answering them anyways!) :-)
This is great but do we have to use rum or could we make it with no rum in it ?
@MyHappyFeet02 Sure - any plain sweet cookies will do ;)
@MrButterworth24 To be honest, I used a bad recipe. I'm certain it had a misprint or a missing ingredient. Realistically it was just frozen chocolate ganache, and I couldn't figure out how that could work - which it didn't!

Elisa Šefanovska mine did too...
Do you reccomend using powdered sugar as a topping
Good recipe thankyou 😊👍🏻
Do I have to put it on the fridge for only 10-15 minutes? Because I made too many of rum balls and I'm afraid if I keep it on the fridge till tommorow, it will be frozen.
Great stuff, mate.
Greetz from Glasgow / Scotland...
Is this the one you made that blooper from?
@saccharinelemon Replace the coconut with the same amount of cookie crumbs :)
@rapgal220 Absolutely :)
@sitinurulazeerah Try Vanilla / Peppermint / Orange Essence. You could also use a different liqueur or some espresso coffee ;)
I tried this recipe and it was a hit for Christmas! :)
thank u for the recipe! rumballs are my childhood fave
I bet these would be awesome with peppermint essence too :)
@TheJezze09 You can use any rum you prefer, but a dark rum is best ;)
will they still taste nice if u skip the rum?
@BloodyBonned You can replace the coconut with more cookie crumbs ;)
I just tried these the other day! I think they originated from Brasil :)
There's a "I don't know from where" recipe that add candied fruits to the blend❤❤❤
looks sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!
OMG. Make truffles and add bundaburg in them, they taste so nice!
Can I use chocolate wafers instead of chocolate biscuits???
@Aussiegirl265 LOL I have 3 of them. I found them in a junk shop and thought they looked retro ;)
Looks like Mum will like this one :)
my mom is alergic to coconut, so any substitutes for desiccated coconut? :) thanks
Rum balls make a tummy rumble.
after you take them out of the fridge will they melt???
@OnePotChefShow Thanks so much!! Just in time for the party this weekend :))))))
wow! they look gorgeous in the tray all lined up! :D
When I added the rum flavouring to the melted chocolate, the chocolate went totally stiff, So I had to do another batch of melted chocolate, and instead I added the rum flavouring to the carnation Milk & biscuit mixture & that worked fine ;)
It only takes 10 - 15 minutes to set. Once set, they won't go any harder ;)
You're a patient man! Good for you :-)
@misssophie119 I hope you enjoy them :)
@radtwelve Ingredients in the video description ;)
Hello there...any other option to change rum?Sorry I can't catch up your explanation in your video. Thanks....
Great new start and video.

can I use cocoa powder instead of melting chocolate it would be much quicker?
thank you
what can you use to substitute for the coconut?
There is already an ingredient list in the description ;)
can i make it into cakepops? and can i change the rum to Baileys?
Thankyou!! Haha, I definitely don't plan to get drunk off them =P I will be making them for a christmas party soon =]
@heelrunner LOL you can blame RUclips and their broken Subscription boxes. My videos haven't been popping up for everyone :)
I love rum balls. More so with Bundy Rum!
can i use anything else instead of coconut? please reply asap.
Use another flavoring like Vanilla or Peppermint Essence ;)
Great Video i would Rather use a Bourbon lol but off course it is up to the individual i Remember making these as School when i was younger but now i would make them with Real Rum or what ever and good i idea on the irish Cream
