After watching the show I felt like Saebyeok had the most captivating emotional acting, and I couldn't believe my goddam ears when I heard she had literally never acted a single time in her life before this, and was instead a globally recognized supermodel. I repeat, she's never acted a single time in her life, until she was suddenly cast into one of the biggest-name shows of all time. From literally nonexistent to global headlines.

I realised when Hae-Soo said "I wanna meet Jimmy brother", at 1:58 he meant Jimmy hyung in Korean and that just melts my heart. I love how they carry their culture so close to their hearts 🥺❤
Oh yeah, I noticed that too. I watched the show with original Korean audio, but with English subtitles. I noticed the " hyung" part doesn't get included in the English subtitles--it's a little touch that gets lost in translation.
@@applefoodie Yes it is so important that Sang Woo tells Ali to call him Hyung instead of Sajangnim. That indicated their closeness which is why Ep 6 was heartbreaking. Yet the subtitles did not reflect the change so it gets lost to non Koreans. I do understand translators are underpaid so it is not their fault but I do hope they get paid more for future projects. I did notice the subs were updated recently, especially including more swearing because subs tend to water them down lol!
@@carmelcity9527 Totally, I hear you on that. But also, I think the translators didn't necessarily expect the series to take off like that. I think some of the nuances in Korean culture get lost on the international audience, and they didn't put that much effort into conveying that.
But perhaps...with the popularity of Korean media, some of the cultural nuances might be better appreciated by the international audience, and moving forward, translators might put more effort into conveying those cultural tidbits.

@@deliademira5700 a lot of times especially with korean artists american interviewers tend to treat them like they’re incapable of answering more complex questions because many of them don’t speak english so they’ll ask basic questions like “what’s ur favorite american food?” and it can be quite frustrating as fans because these artists and actors deserve to be asked the same questions as english speaking ones but instead they’re given the same ones over and over
we see kpop idols often on late night shows, but I didn't expect to see kdrama actors. proud of the progress and proud to see kdramas doing so well internationally 😍😍

Fr in all honesty. It's not like it isn't there at all, some movies have really good actors and a good cast in America. Though you don't necessarily feel it as much in comparison to the cast and all the effort put into squid game

I really appreciate the respect that Jimmy showed, that he did some research beforehand. I've seen interviewers ask Lee Jung-Jae how he's adjusting to his newfound fame, not bothering to learn that he's been a star in Korea for decades. It really reflects well on Jimmy and the show that he knows their names, and background on them, even though these are basic things.

@@petermarsh4578 It should be, but since everyone obviously doesn't do it, she's just acknowledging the fact that Jimmy did. A lot of Western interviewers don't bother doing research about foreign actors, and instead just treat them as newly famous just because they're newly famous in America.
I thought the same, he didn't assume they only got famous after Squid Game and actually asked what the fans wanna know, he did the bare minimum and this is satisfying to watch.

Lee Jung Jae is already legendary in South Korea. He's someone like Christian Bale or Tom Hardy in US. He basically has done every movie genres and can play any roles and he won major acting awards.

Squid game is unlike anything I've ever seen. The actors are able to capture true terror, disgust, anger, sadness, and that raw greed for even a glimpse of money. The acting is so amazing

Lee Jungjae, the main character in squid game, is one of the most well known and beloved top actors in Korea. He's been in the industry over 35 years. He played this below average loser character for the first time in squid game, but he normally plays a very charming, charismatic, or evil character in movies. I was actually quite shocked to see him playing such a loser character in.squid game because I was only used to seeing him playing strong, charismatic characters in movies. He did an amazing job though

Really though! As a Korean American, I grew up watching kdramas.... So I binge watched it in a day and moved onto other shows.
Of course I checked when Part 2 is coming out.... It's slated for 2023 😣😣

I don't care what others say about it, but for me Lee Jung-jae's portrayal of Gi Hun was one of the most impressive acting performances I have ever seen.
Gi Hun's character (next to Sang woo) was one of the most complex and multifaceted and I'm glad the director was able to win such a talented actor for it.
Lee Jung-jae played Gi Hun so masterfully and believably that I suffered with him for the entire series and rarely have I been so emotionally moved.

Jung-jae Lee is literally a legend in Korea. He is one of the most charismatic and sexiest actors in his ages. Gong Yoo, the salesman in the first episode is a top A list star aswell. Arguably everybody likes them!

People who are not much aware of Korean dramas and movies industry, Lee Jungjae (Gi-hun) does not really do much dramas as much as he does movies. He rarely does dramas that his last one was from 2 years ago, and all his projects are really worth watching! Superb acting and a very very versatile actor!
I was shocked he did the show, but then I watched it and realized why he did it. The whole project was too good to turn down. I mean even Lee Byung Hun, who has done many international film work to take on the role he had, I can see how they would do this drama. I'm glad they are getting the recognition they deserve. Still waiting for another season of Chief of Staff.

Cause if you go into the show blind, once you hear in the show that they’re playing Redlight Greenlight. You have a sudden moment of realisation that shit is going to get real VERY quickly.
If you already know that the game is going to be Red Light Green Light, then you’re likely to have that “oh shit” moment.

I think the reason is the walking dead already exists and lots of zombie focused content has been produced in the us, but squid game is very unique.

Jung hoyeon was quite a find of the series. She was absolutely flawless in her acting and perhaps the only character in the series that you secretly wanted to live until the last episode merely because you want her to share maximum screen time. Too bad she could hardly get a chance to speak in the interview , I waited patiently to hear her out. She looked so beautiful here and spoke confidently, I would love to watch more of her as an actor on the world stage in years to come. More power to you Jung - you’re going to be at the top sooner or later.

The U.S. has a tendency to be a bit isolated from the rest of the world culturally. I have learned more about French films when I was in the UK and even Japan. There are actors that many countries around the world know from the UK for example but nobody knows here.
