- In today's video, we (slightly) upgrade our solar equipment but still have lots of questions. Complete some gravel work in the driveway with footage that I thought I lost last week (found it!), and Julie and I take a short trip to Hope, Alaska.

So glad you took time to go out with camper, yup beautiful. Good luck with the solar. You are so lucky $5.00 truck load. Waiting for you next video.😊
So much fun watching the both of you settling in. Filling in the holes and doing what normal people do every day.
And doing it with smiles and being able to enjoy your environment. See you next week. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!😊
Loved the headcam view😊😊
Hey just a suggestion but that old junky RV that you got there you can take the Box off of it and use the frame as a flatbed trailer and it'll work and it doesn't cost you anything to buy a new flatbed trailer
Came here to say that. I did the same with a boat trailer and an old broken down RV. A comparable price for a used trailer, the size of the RV frame, was around $4,500-5,000.
Yep. That's definitely something we have thought of. Stayed tuned for future video. 😉
Hi, you definitely need a larger solar system. When you upgrade, please go with a 48V system. LIFEPO4 batteries will last a long time but are a huge upfront investment. Good luck 😄😄
Thanks. We will look into it.
Beautiful area you were in. But you place is looking could. Thank you for sharing and God Bless you and your family. 🥰👍👍👍👍👍(🌹🐞🦂🌵)
Thank you! You too!
It’s gorgeous up there! 💖
It really is!
Loved the video. Gypsy stole the show ❤!!
Tyler needs a trailer for the trashes
Can you insulate the house side of the generator building and perhaps the roof too? Doing so might help with noise, especially if it's spray insulation.
Tylers a great trash thrower😂
You can get a solar pump for your well and get it off of the rest of your solar.
Regarding power.there are newer pump options and regulate usage on need, glass of water uses less than watering the lawn etc worth researching yes cost upfront but excellent long term return
Yes we are definitely looking at pump options for our well. 👍
Do you worry about Gypsy getting hit on the road? There was another vehicle driving past your property when Julie was pulling out.
I worried a about the same thing when she ran past the stop sign. There must not be much traffic way all.
No. There are very few cars on this road and everyone around here drives very slow due to the gravel and dirt roads. We would not let her run around if there were more cars. 😊
That would be awful. Eliminates the possibility of courtesy flushes unless the generator is on.
Hey guys, aren’t you concerned that that old solar controller is going to give out in the winter and you’ll have nothing? Wouldn’t it be better to replace it now before it goes?
Really, really love that band that was playing, they are soooo good! I love that kind of music. Do you have their website if they have one?
They were great. We did not catch their name
Line the shed with some sound deadening material?
If you're interested in doing the solar stuff look up renergie or red ark
Well look into it. Thanks for the recommendation.
I would assume in winter time the solar won't give you enough to charge those batteries .
We will find out! Lots of sunny days but they are shorter
That poor dog is asking for a ride I bet
Gypsy actually hates riding in cars.
What other wildlife do you have besides moose , are there bears nearby
Eagles, cranes, hares and grouse are what we see often. We have seen bear scat but no bears.
So did you install in series ,or in parallel ?
We installed it in series parallel. We were told that's what it's called.
@@OffGridInAlaska has to be one or the other ,one is all positives linked together and all negatives linked together resulting in no voltage increase (parallel).the other is positive to negative connection increasing the voltage by the given battery power each time ,is if for instance you link 4 12v batteries you end up with 48v .(series)
Don't let Tyler wear a helmet cam, it's dizzying
Sounds like a YOU problem....
Hi guys. I found your channel yesterday and just couldn't stop watching until I caught up with all your videos. You have come along way. Good for you. It is also fun when friends come and help. Can't wait to see the next one. Thanks for the videos.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching!!
Trying to run a house on a 12v system isn’t very efficient. A 48v system draws one quarter the current which is means less internal resistance from the battery itself. When your pump is drawing 136 amperes the battery itself becomes a load also. I’ve been running a 4K 48v inverter at our remote cabin for about 20 years. On sunny days we can do 4 loads of wash without running the generator. I worked on these systems for many years doing telecom work.
Thanks for the comment. All the info is very helpful as we navigate our next steps.
Yes, definitely switch over to a 48V system. Not sure what your shipping situation is, But Solar Signature sells everything you would need, Inverters/panels and some of the best 48v rack batteries on the market today at reasonable prices. Good Luck!
Great video 🫶 Gypsy is so much fun to watch 😊
We agree! Thanks for watching!
Nice that you have family close by💜 nice improvement on the driveway!
Yes, thank you!
Great job Tyler👍
I'd remove that entire deisal ran generator from that shed, and either get rid of it or keep it fir extreme emergencies, but take it and set it back a good 1/4 mile away from the house and run a trenched line underground fir external lines, and you won't have that disgusting exhaust smell. You're getting solar anyway so, put that attached shed to much better use and relocate that old deisal powered one away from the house, no smell, no loud noise.
What a gorgeous veiw❣️
Love this video…Great job Tyler. Always look forward to Saturdays to see what you guys are up to ❤❤
Hi, Good morning.. Hope your day is going well. Living in Aleska, do you think you would get enough sun to support solar? I would think wind power would do better in Aleska.
Alaska. It’s spelt A-L-A-S-K-A.
Alaska has very long days in the summer which makes it great for solar but yes the winter days are short and makes it difficult. We are also looking into wind options.
No wonder mosquitoes are bad up there.
Instead of moving the existing panels just strengthen the carport roof and add more panels make sure you add a controller to each panel.
Do you know how deep the deepest part of Resurrection Creek is where you showed us! That water moves really fast!
I use Eco flow delta pro and works great with 2 extra batteries and smart dual fuel generator. I have a small house and it runs everything but heat. 1200w solar array and I'm nearly self-sufficient and only need the generator a few days a month
Thanks for sharing. Our brother just got that. We will see how he likes it.
you could also go watch wildwood off grid alaska as he has a pretty nice set up as well.....i would prefer erics and arielle but each to there own
We will check it out. Thanks for the suggestion!
Stunning scenery
Good morning and God bless this weekend.
Same to you!
I noticed on the drive to the gravel yard it looked like power lines near the road. Is grid tied electric close enough to your home that you could connect to it if you want to?
It actually is not that far to connect to power but the utility company told us it would be about $80,000 to connect
@@OffGridInAlaska That’s crazy expensive. Public utilities should be affordable to the public. It cost me $117 to connect to Kentucky power. And it wouldn’t have cost that much except I wanted under ground service instead of aerial service and I had to pay the difference in wire price.
It might be an idea for you to put your water pump on a separate system then your house. A smaller system with separate panels and equipment etc. Another idea would be that when you decide which new system you plan to use for the house and install it, use the system you have now just for your water pump.
Great idea. 👍👍
A friend has 6 facing east , 6 facing west ,and 4 straight up .
Lots of jobs on a homestead and nice footage of the mountains☺
Thank you!
No wind please, too many birds. And it too makes noise.
❤Love all the love in this video!!❤🙏🏽God bless you @Off Grid In Alaska🙏🏽
Thanks for watching!
Very cool solar options.
Thanks for watching!
Just a thought but the metal shelving tyler moved could be reused in a greenhouse for shelving for plants.❤
Great idea!
#gypsyalaskaadventure today👏
Ha! True. She is loving Alaska
Hope is my favorite place ever!
It is beautiful. 🤩
You guy's are doing such great thing's at the homestead ❤❤
Thank you!😊
