  • A detailed how to tie a baitfish streamer pattern that I use in stillwater. The pattern will provide more side to side action than a lot of patterns when fished in stillwater. It's been effective fly-fishing for bass, pike and musky. I just started running it this year but plan to fish it this fall while streamer fishing Northern Michigan and White River in Arkansas.

As someone who fishes and ties flies for still water bass for half the season, I agree can be very frustrating if your not in spring or fall

That is a really good looking pattern. Gonna have a go at it for fishing lakes here in SE PA

It works well for both. I was just trying to get a pattern that would have side to side action, which this does, after a long hard strip it will kick to one side or the other. It seems like all the fish in the lake eat it.

Have you tested this with an articulation joint as opposed to the stiff shank? Ive been trying to get reliable side to side in the lakes for years and still aren't all that happy with it

I have and this works better for me. I get the best action when I pull the line slowly then very hard at the end of the strip.

Really the best way to get the side to side action is to put a hook behind a shank and tie your line to the shank. I just don't like the hook location when I do that.

@@alexlafkasfly-fishing9088 thanks, i agree. Material density is an issue with a heavy hook in back and a light shank up front as well. Gonna give your brush head a try, appreciate the videos

Do you ever throw smaller trout type streamers/ bugs for smallies?

    • @alexlafkasfly-fishing9088

I do. Prespawn is my favorite time for big flies on inland lakes. In the great lakes we fish a bunch of clouser style flies and smaller baitfish
