Dear sir, I was solving crude rates word problems and wanted to ask why in some questions the answer was multiplied by 1000 while in other questions it was multiplied by 10000 and 100000. How do we know which one do we have to multiply it with? (it isn't even mentioned in the question if we have to find per 1000 people or per 10000) Please help.
The number you multiply by is based on the overall population of the used sample. E.g., A calculation regarding mortality rates of babies will be x 1000 because there is a small amount of 0-365 Day Old Individuals compared to the Adolescent N (Age 10-19 Years). With larger populations, you need a greater per capita calculation = 10,000 or 100,000. Hope this helps!
some infants might not ever be recognized or register as having been persons who were alive for any period. The church won't recognize or acknowledge them in alot of instance. These mortality figures than might not be accurate as far as I can surmise.

Can i ask why we multiply by a thousand?

so the state won't recognize them either as a law or science which correlates with child mortality in all stats
