    Hi Bernie, thanks a bunch for sharing this vid of your epic trip! All those beautiful buggies! I'd never have the time to build one between family and work and I'm really interested in buying a prebuilt. Other than the slim chance of finding one for sale online, could you recommend where else I could look? Thanks again!

    • @bernierochon
      @bernierochon  3 года назад +1

      Hi Chip, glad you enjoyed the video! Ya I know what you mean. It’s quite a bit of work building one but it is very rewarding in the end. I think your best bet is to find one on Facebook market place, Craigslist or the Bring a Trailer website. I know you said your not into buy a pre-built one but possibly you could find someone in your area who knows buggies who could build one for you. Good luck on your search! Hope you find one soon!

    do you buy chance know of a place that sells fiberglass dune buggy bodies? thanks

    • @bernierochon
      @bernierochon  2 года назад +1

      There are few places that sell brand new bodies. Most notably is Meyers Manx Inc which is Bruce Meyers’ original company which has been sold to new owners. There are other places like MGM plastics or Berrien Buggy (ACME). A quick google search shows a few more also.

    IF I ALREADY HAVE A VW BEETLE AND MANX BODY.......HOW MUCH MORE DO I NEED TO SPEND FOR OTHER THING....ONLY FOR A UNIT THAT RUNS NOT SOMETHING CUSTOM LOOK?

    • @bernierochon
      @bernierochon  3 года назад

      I guess it depends on the shape of the parts you have on the beetle and what your looking to build. Old school dune buggies were only built from Beetle parts with the addition of a custom roll cage/bumpers, manx body and manx windshield. If you already have a windshield on your manx body and your motor and transmission are good in the beetle, all you need to do is shorten the pan (possibly add a 2/3inch lift for strength which is what we do), mount the body, steering wheel column and gas tank then drive it! Maybe some new tires too?

    Great video. Did you build your roll cages are did you buy them? I really like how they attach to the rear cage.

    • @bernierochon
      @bernierochon  2 года назад

      Thanks! We built the roll cages from scratch. We use a JD Squared bender and 1.5inch tubbing with a few simple bends to fit each the buggy uniquely. It’s not too difficult and we aren’t too fancy but they turn out quite nice! If you’re looking for info there are some great videos on RUclips showing how to make roll cages.

    • @bernierochon
      @bernierochon  3 года назад +1

      You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! The orange one in the video is my dads which is a NCM (New Classic Manx) kit from Meyers Manx Inc which they make brand new today. The dash is a stock VW beetle speedometer in the middle with a tach, oil temperature and voltmeter all from Speedhut. Speedhut makes custom gauges in all shapes and sizes.

      @@bernierochon Very true, and we modellers surely know what improvisation means 😁!
