  • With a truly incredible original gel coat Yuma Yellow Pre Tag Meyers Manx in the Lab for a little work, Randy takes the opportunity to capture the moment and give some tips and tricks on what to look for when it comes to identifying an original "pre tag" Manx. This one has been certified, but if you think you have the real deal, you can contact Winnie Meyers with the Manx Club for certification and registry tags...a great way to add value and provenance to your collectible Manx buggy.

    Hi Randy,
    That hole in the tire well is not only on Pre Tag cars but also present on Manx 1 bodies with ID tags. I was a piece of tape used to cover up a hole in the mold. After the fibreglass set, they would take an air chuck and blow air in through that hole to release the body from the mold. When the body was sold new it would not have had a hole drilled into it like this one. This was probably done to aid drainage in the tire well.
    Another detail is that Pre Tag bodies and Manx 1 bodies are actually that same body.The only difference being, Bruce added front and rear badges and an ID tag to them.
    This is a nice looking survivor in a great color. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for the info Rich! That makes sense, I cant imagine it would have been a whole different mold just for the tagged ones... Always something new to learn about these cars!

    Love it! My first love as far as cars go. I had a yuma yellow pedal car circa 1971-2. Then Speed Buggy came out and I was hooked! Unfortunately living in central Illinois and after a lifetime of poor health I was never able to fulfill that dream. Thanks for sharing these as it brings back great memories!

    Gread video. I built a buggy, with an old body (Canadian copy) I bought. I am amazed, beside the tube underneath, and the shape over the engine, they look pretty close. Mine was also yellow gel coat, but was so far gone, I had to repaint it. It will never be as desirable and rare as a Manx, but it's so much fun to drive. Just love this thing.

    Wow this buggy took me back over 50 years to a time that I built model cars one after another! I got a model of this car molded in yellow plastic! I believe it was an AMT kit. I wish I had kept all of my collection but I gave them to a younger friend and him and some other kids blew them all up with firecrackers!

    • @Carchaeology
      @Carchaeology  2 года назад +1

      They were always so fun to blow up! I was the kid that would scoop up all the broken parts and half built kits and build scrap models all day long. I had this big wooden barrel that was full of car parts. I’d dump it out and build one freaky car after the next. Very fond memories of all that.

    Having grown up in So-Cal in the seventies these dune buggies were all over. Lots of Beetles made the ultimate sacrifice.

      It’s true, a lot of Beetles made the sacrifice, but I like to think their souls continue and greatly enjoy the wild and free buggy life!

    So very well done video . Informative even if you are not a VW freak . To bad you didn't show the car with the hard top on . I have seen that before and really changes the look of the car . All for the good ...

      I did skip the engine didn’t I ? My apologies! It’s a basic stock 1600cc VW engine , nothing spectacular. If you are in the market of a real Manx, I normally post updates and pics of all the ones we are working with on Instagram under the user name @mogthemanx

      A lot of Manx buggies went back east actually , but obviously weather kept a lot of them indoors for much of their lives. As a result, some of the best survivors have come from the east and Midwest .

    Wow what another great find , could u tell me if any of the original pre tag or early tag buggy bodies were sold in the UK in the 1960s , also wondering where Bruce's old red is today does Winnie still own it or did it go to the new owners of the Manx company ? Thanks kev

    • @Carchaeology
      @Carchaeology  2 года назад +3

      I don’t know when the first bodies were exported , but with roughly 1400 pre-tag bodies produced, I could certainly see the possibility of some coming to the UK. Old Red I believe is in the hands of Meyers Manx LLC at this point, or at least is in their care. It was seen at some major car events and museums this past year and will continue to be used as a tool to promote the brand and tell the story of Bruce Meyers.
