We're going up now just like a kite Burning our wings on a sun so bright Wondering where lightning will strike Everybody says that the end's in sight Shadow is moving in the minds of men We made our home inside this lion's den Salute, soldier, the boss is in sight He makes no distinction between wrong and right Well, everybody has their price Is that true, is that right Who is our enemy Today it's you, tomorrow me Well, that wind is blowing hard outside And the fires of war they still burn so bright I'm praying for some rain tonight Open hand's a blessing and a closed hand a curse Everything that grows started out in the dirt Don't you worry 'bout the line or your place of birth They say the first will be last But will the last be first And yes you heard it said now, talk is cheap Guess that depends on the words that you speak Memphis, Tennessee, 1968, you can get Filled full of holes for the things that you say, well Everybody has their price Is that true, is that right Who is our enemy Today it's you, tomorrow me Well that wind is blowing hard outside And the fires of war, they still burn so bright I'm praying for some rain tonight But there's still some things even gold can't buy Why would we paint this world black and white Everybody choose a side But when the train keeps on moving you're along for the ride, well Everybody has their price Is that true, is that right Who is our enemy Today it's you, tomorrow me Well that wind is blowing hard outside And the fires of war they still burn so bright I'm praying for some rain I'm praying for some rain I'm praying for some rain tonight
Man, this album is great. I appreciate why fans may not like it, but I love to see the band evolve their sound and still sound like themselves. This new approach is great, not my favorite album of theirs, cause I really like I'm a stranger here and their self titled, but still, I'm very happy with this release.
I’m liking the album more and more as they release new stuff. This one is my favorite so far. But the album as a whole? I just prefer the old stuff (Original and Longjohns Boots and a Belt are my favorites) and I miss it. But I appreciate them trying to evolve. I just don’t like it
"Pray For Rain" We're going up now just like a kite Burning our wings on a sun so bright Wondering where lightning will strike Everybody says that the end's in sight Shadow was booing in the minds of men We made our home inside this lion's den Salute, soldier, the boss is inside He makes no distinction between wrong and right Well everybody has their price Is that true, is that right Who is eyeing on me Hey it's you, tomorrow me Well that wind is blowing hard outside And the [?] they still burn so bright I'm praying for some rain tonight Open hand's a blessing and closed hand a curse Everything that grows started out in the dirt Don't you worry 'bout the line or you'll place [?] They say the first will be last But will the last be first And yes you heard, I said now, talk is cheap Guess that depends on the words that you speak Memphis, Tennessee, 1968, you can get [?] bullet holes for the things that you say, well Everybody has their price Is that true, is that right Who is eyeing on me Hey, it's you, tomorrow me Well that wind is blowing hard outside And the [?] they still burn so bright I'm praying for some rain tonight But there's still some things even gold can't buy Why would we paint this world black and white Everybody choose a side But when the train keeps on moving you're along for the ride, well Everybody has their price Is that true, is that right Who is eyeing on me Hey, it's you, tomorrow me Well that wind is blowing hard outside And the [?] they still burn so bright I'm praying for some rain I'm praying for some rain I'm praying for some rain tonight
God forbid a good band continues to evolve and try new things. All you people complaining about how this doesn't sound like their old stuff need to learn to appreciate artists for trying new things and taking risks. Their earlier work that you love so much is most likely a result of that risk taking in the first place.
theres experimentation, and then theres Bad Idea(s). feels like the risk here was not paying the rent. on the upside, they inspired me to play, and i jam to them on a daily basis. i appreciate the shit outta them. but i may skip some of these. 'god forbid' we form separate opinions
I think it's more that the sort of aged sound of their previous work made them feel as if they were truly a country band of the 70s and 80s whereas this feels much more modern, the exact kind of sound their previous listeners (like me) listen to them to avoid.
@obrienct I never argued you couldn't have a negative opinion on their new work. Bad ideas is just another way of saying you don't like it, which is fine. I'm saying that to criticize a band for experimentation and risk taking is dumb because sometimes is does pay off. The point your missing here is that what made their music so unique from the beginning was by taking a risk and putting out a very distinct sound unlike many others. I personally applaud artists that try new things because deviating from what has always worked in the past is not easy to do. However I will concede, you don't need to appreciate this behavior, I just think its commendable because that behavior is what keeps all types of music from become stale.
@Cu mo, just because there is more production involved doesn't mean its whitewashed mainstream shit. Its fair to have that opinion but i strongly disagree. They still sound like DMT to me, albeit more produced.
seen them live a few times. fucking amazing show. last yime insaw the. though it was a 5 piece band. it was a lackluster show. the drummer was not good and the violinist was great but he looked like he hated his job and it was just a job to him. the show ended strong with the last 3 somgs but they did the last 3 as the original trio only. i love this band but this new album is not for me. redemption and ruin had some gopd songs too but i feel it fell flat overall compared to previous albums
@Christopher Bingham i saw them live and the violinist while very talented did not look like he wanted to be there. He was just going through the motions.
I'll always love tdm3 but the original version of this song played on their singers solo record is much better. This version sounds like the rolling stones covering tdm3. Paint my fave was good though so I'm excited to see what else they got in store.
Bells and whistles , fans fell in love with grit and deep simplicity and a pirate way to sway drunk and sing along, the melody gave us room to sing along with our own meaning. I see kinda see there evolution but . Steam punk hippies from cali with fedoras made this band stand out on the live scene . Ex street kids , drunks , trainryders. Gave this band an identity. Seems like they wanted a more broad aproch including a more mainstream appeal.
Jackson Burlison. I must agree. What i liked about DM3 was their proximity to bare bones music. This has been produced to death. Please Get back to the original 3.
if you heard petes solo stuff you should catch an idea how this album come to sound... but under TDM3.. i like the tunes so far really exicted about the album and i know this has to do with petes writing you can tell so far from his solo stuff i feel...
The first song of this album sounds like the DEVIL makes three. The rest is basically pop shit. Where’s the minor cords and the satanical feel? Super disappointed. If you disagree you’re no true fan as far as I’m concerned
It's new it's good I love the devil makes 3 by far my favorite band keep it coming and Minnesota shows please
I have one of their t-shirts and wear it religiously. love this band. they can do no wrong.
Australia presently in drought. Thanks for praying for rain with us.
We're going up now just like a kite
Burning our wings on a sun so bright

And yes you heard it said now, talk is cheap

I'm praying for some rain tonight
But there's still some things even gold can't buy
Why would we paint this world black and white
Everybody choose a side
But when the train keeps on moving you're along for the ride, well
Everybody has their price
Is that true, is that right
Who is our enemy
Today it's you, tomorrow me

One of my favorite albums in recent years

Good stuff..thumbs up...
they are awsome as usual
A. Let a band evolve and make the music they want to or need to B. You're gonna see this live and fall in love with it, trust me
seen them live a few times. fucking amazing show. last yime insaw the. though it was a 5 piece band. it was a lackluster show. the drummer was not good and the violinist was great but he looked like he hated his job and it was just a job to him. the show ended strong with the last 3 somgs but they did the last 3 as the original trio only.

I think the folk who dislikes this now will like it later. Its happening to me.
Love me some D M T
i love DMT too. devil makes three is gopd too
I'll always love tdm3 but the original version of this song played on their singers solo record is much better. This version sounds like the rolling stones covering tdm3. Paint my fave was good though so I'm excited to see what else they got in store.
Sounds more like Pete's solo work than DM3 Which I cant say I mind...both excellet
"Today it's you tomorrow its me." Is that an expression outside of Reddit?
Evan Daniels apparently
This isn't so much a new DM3 song than a cover of a Pete Bernhard solo track. It's aight anyway.
Bells and whistles , fans fell in love with grit and deep simplicity and a pirate way to sway drunk and sing along, the melody gave us room to sing along with our own meaning. Preferred their old stuff. That rock and roll approach seems just wrong.
I don't know what you people are on about but this sounds lie their usual stuff
STOP OVER PRODUCING MY FAVORITE BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So sad.
Jackson Burlison. I must agree. What i liked about DM3 was their proximity to bare bones music. This has been produced to death. Please Get back to the original 3.

cant wait to figure the concept to this album
Jackson Burlison, agree completely. Seems like somebody wants on the radio. Not my kind of music for sure.
Might as well change your band name because this ain’t TDM3. 😢
Might as well fuck off cause you're obviously not a fan of theirs.
meh. they lost their touch. paint my face is just ok
paint my face is awesome. these other released songs are bullshit
now that the full album is out, i like about 7 of them
@Christopher Bingham yes i spoke a little soon, but i still prefer their earlier works
The first song of this album sounds like the DEVIL makes three. The rest is basically pop shit. Where’s the minor cords and the satanical feel? Super disappointed. If you disagree you’re no true fan as far as I’m concerned
