- Terror on the Prairie, starring Gina Carano, is the first major production by The Daily Wire. But is it any good, or just a cheap publicity stunt? Join me as I review it.

Hello internet and welcome to film theory

There is a certain glorious irony in having a restrained, even apprehensive, female lead played by a woman who actually can kick some serious arse.
and she's not a 90lb waif like in almost every other muh strong female character movies
Like, a normal human being?
Yeah, seems like Daily Wire has a lock on that this year.
@@johnwolf2829 I'd say the 110 women are more common now than her, but her strength and build is actually far more authentic for a woman of those times when everything was done with hand and muscle, rather than people dependant on modern appliances.
@@apollohateshisdayjob9606 Yup. I'm not the one that said 90 pounds, either.
Point is, being in a gunfight is terrifying, as any Vet will tell you,
Which is better: this or Little Mosque on the Prairie?
I'm so pleased for Gina. She deserved a fair chance to show her talents and she finally got it. Well done.
if she wanted to show her talents she should do porn.
Check out Haywire. She's very good in that.
Better yet, she managed to free herself from communist hollywood's woke yoke where she'd only ever be held back, as the circumstances of her expulsion demonstrate.
hollywood can't stomach anything they can't control. Especially strong women.
She'll flourish outside of that hellscape and more people should follow in her and Daily Wire's footsteps.
She did. Cara Dune was a powerful lesbian.
Nice to see that she’s practicing to see what other roles she can do besides action ones.
My wife and I loved this movie, and my wife can't sit still for more than 10 minutes. She watched the whole thing, she loved Carano and the story. It reminded me of No Country for Old Men with the no music and grittiness. Really looking forward to what they do next!
I gotta say, it’s nice see a movie where the female lead is actually believable. She’s still the hero, but it’s clear she’s never handled a gun before, let alone fought in battle. I look forward to seeing what else DW and Carano bring.
Yeah... It's almost as if the viewers tend to appreciate courage in characters over Mary-Sue like levels of skill.
Amazing that Hollywood missed this completely.
@@sevenproxies4255 They don't miss it they just don't care what their audience thinks as they believe they know best, and they're going to preach and virtue signal that message 24/7.
Negative, pure fantasy , a zero experienced housewife against 4 experienced criminals, reminds me of Prey
This film is literally made by and for far right wing Qanon propaganda lmao
@@BendingUnit19 She had never killed anybody before, but she definitely had learned to handle the gun, and she was holed up in the house, thus having the advantage as they tried to break in. How is that pure fantasy? Also Prey, apart from "that" scene, (you know the one I'm talking about) does not have anything too crazy. And Naru is shown repeatedly actually working to get her skills.
I like the idea that the movie can actually be quiet.
There are a lot of movies where the characters just go on constantly and never ever shut up because we're supposed to be entertained if the actors are always saying something. Even when they would be better off not.
thats a great point.
I think that's one of the big appeals of The Hateful Eight. The dialogue is purposefully used, not just air filler
Castaway was a masterclass in this
You might like "Ghost Dog".
Are you really going to focus on wise quips when you're being shot at, realistically no one's going to hear you
So good to see Gina push her boundaries and delve deeper into the acting world. Disney was foolish to let you go. Proud of you girl.

In a time where everything is loud, flashy, and jumping the shark being the low bar, a movie about a simple family struggling to survive in a harsh time is both nothing amazing and the most amazing thing at the same time.

I couldn't agree more. The Drinker nailed it! Overall, it was a good film. I was surprised Gina was able to carry the movie and was impressed with how serious they took themselves. Very refreshing concept in 2022
I never doubted her.
Hahahahahaha
Drinker didn't say it was a good movie.
This is the content I love from you. Not the group conversations. You shine in these, while the group conversations are like sitting outside someone else's friend group, without being a part of it. Especially if any of the other members are content creators you don't care for. Please keep doing more of these.
Yeah. I tried to watch the group conversation videos and I cannot follow. It is like watching friend groups talking using inside jokes that you are not a part of.
It was a solid movie. A simple concept done well that manages to lean into its strengths. Filming on location, not getting bogged down in exposition, and letting the craftsmanship carry the immersion. Plus they managed to make the female lead strong without having to make her just another male cut out.
We think that as long as the action works and is well done, the characters are believable and make sense, the movie has succeeded. It’s shame so many movies fail to reach even that standard, but Terror on the Prairie does a good job of this.
It’s unfortunate that such basic requirements are now noteworthy but I’m happy to have decent filmmaking these days. You’d think we would have refined the art to a degree after all these years where we produce consistently good products but it seems not everyone has the same definition of “good” so decent is pretty good
I want to clarify: I’m not throwing shade at this movie, I haven’t seen it. I’m throwing shade at Hollywood in general

Great review, thanks.
I think this movie did a great job at laying a foundation for Daily Wire movie productions. A foundation is supposed to be rock hard and sturdy, nothing flashy, nothing extravagant, but able to carry everything that is about to come. That's what DC failed half a dozen times when trying to kickstart their cinematic universe. Multiverses are just an excuse for that in my eyes.
It's a great proof of concept and I'm so glad to see Gina in a production worthy of her character strength. Disney didn't deserve her as a person and now she even grew as an actor, that's cathartic payback.
Totally speaks to Gina's strength as human. She spoke out, faced the consequences, wasn't afraid to go with a new studio trying to prove itself, and didn't back down from the standards and challenges that she was facing. That is strength, and I'll totally take that over this Mary Sue **** ***** ***** ****** that has infiltrated and infested our current entertainment.
Is this the same guy behind the "fastest Mario" tweet?
@@knowledgeanddefense1054 Unlikely, I never even visited twitter.
I just watched that movie last night. It is definitely a real deal western in the guise of more of a historical representation of what it was like back then, brutal and unkind. It's not an earth shattering piece of cinematography, but it's definitely thousands of times better than any of the shit we've been served for this long by Hollywoke.
My family have lived in Wyoming since the 1870s. There were women like this. Their husbands had to make some sort of a living. The wife managed the homestead. Ranching was very hard and dangerous. The only criticism I have with movies like this is even outlaws did not molest women. If even a hint of assaulting a woman would get you hunted down a killed. That is not to say it didn't happen. Local ranchers would be aware of a lady's situation and would check up on her to make sure she was OK.
To be fair, I think once you're taking human scalps and threatening to murder children (or just burn them alive) you probably will do other horrible stuff, too.
Well that is an interesting detail, even in the 1800s outlaws weren't ones to turn a blind eye to rapists
@@malakarvonstroheim5372 Even if your neighbours were a couple of hours ride away, they were still your neighbours. It also wasn't in anyones' interests to let the outlaws get the idea that they could just go around doing what they wanted without consequence, because next time it might be you they pick
@@malakarvonstroheim5372 Women in the West outside of towns were very rare, it was a brutal life to get established. Line riding Cowboys knowing a woman's husband was away would often shoot a deer and leave the dressed-out carcass for her and her children to eat.
When Bloody Bill Quantrill and his crew of guerrillas/outlaws went on a massacre in Lawrence Kansas, they were scrupulously careful to not bother the women. Part was the code, but part was because not doing so was likely a great way to get killed by the other outlaws. So yeah... that was a thing.
I enjoyed it, definitely worth a watch. Like The Drinker said it's just so refreshing to have a real, believable female lead instead of a woke token propaganda Mary Sue force feeding The Message that no-one sane agrees with, asked for, wants or will ever submit to. This is a good looking, well crafted if a little basic feature film in a classic mold. "You can tell this movie wasn't made by Hollywood, I can say that much!" When you speak, Drinker, it's to the point, and that's what makes me want to watch something like this even more!
One of the things I enjoy most about independent filmmaking - and I have been involved in crew work and bit part acting in local Asheville productions while still trying to get the greenlight for my own project since my early 20's - is the freedom and creativity, regardless of the limited budget, that results in a film that has an individuality that makes it stand apart from the usual compromised product churned out by the big-league studios. It may not be original, or even match the authentic and timeless quality of some of the best indie films ever made, but it certainly is FAR MORE noteworthy and easier to admire than something that's clearly tailored to appeal to the vast majority while matching in generic staleness the current trends that come and go. And when you learn that most people work on these indies - especially horror - because of actual love of cinema and not for fame, fortune or praise, regardless of their level of experience or talent, that is what makes indie films even more compelling to watch.
I would rather take part in a film made by down-to-earth people like me who actually CARE about the art of film and are given the freedom to do so, regardless of how bad the final product may be, than in a major-studio-financed product made out of corporate avarice and populated with a bunch of smug, narcissistic, overly egotistical, self-consuming, insecure stereotypes that proves to be popular only to later fade into relative obscurity. Hell, I'll even do porn on both sides of the camera if I can't land a crew or but part gig for a mammoth production!
I would rather watch a low budget film than the block busters. Yes, there are often problems caused by lack of money but very often, you can tell the makers tried.
The reason why people watch dinsey and Hollywood is because it's good. The reason why this movie didn't make any money is because it's very difficult to compete with that. Also they are making movies, for profit, with a conservative agenda in response to their perception of political agenda being in movies.
All of these conservative outlets make money. The daily wire has 50M to splash on Steven crowder and are also fudned by billionaires.
I don't want want a billionaire to decide which politics I consume. No way they have my best interests at heart.
If Daily Wire sticks to solid, relatable stories with non-woke emphasis, they'll do fine.
Thats gonna be their m.o im really interested in all their projects
Anyone who uses 'woke' in a sentence has already lost all credibility.
I hope they don't get preachy in their own way though. The Daily Wire is known to be "holier than thou".
I disagree... emphasis of any kind is unnecessary. Just tell a story.
@@squatch545 You just lost all your credibility.
As a UFC fan it was great to see Donald Cerrone flew his acting chops. Perfect role aswel foor the "Cowboy"
What acting chops? He was terrible in this as was Carano. I certainly hope this isn't going to become a thing for Daily Wire to hire non actors like this in their films.
@@Fedorevsky I half agree with you: I disagree about Gina. I though she did a decent job. But Cowboy was terrible in my opinion.
Otherwise, I liked the movie, but didn’t love it. I’m a huge Western fan. This will never be in my top tier of Westerns. But it was alright.
Interestingly, my firearms instructor hated it. Especially the gunplay, which had nothing but criticism for: no recoil, inaccurate depictions of those antique guns (which he insists are *way* more accurate at those distances than the filmmakers show).
He recommended to me Yellowstone and 1883. I am watching (bingeing) the latter now, and this may be one of the best Westerns I have ever seen. Coincidentally, Isabella May, the star of Daily Wire’s first movie, Run Hide Fight, is also the star of 1883. And she is great in both. Run Hide Fight is so far the best of the DW movies, IMO. Followed by Shut In.
Terror is just okay as a movie. As a victory in the cultural battle, after what Disney did, it’s a huge win. I do wish it was a much better movie. But it’s a step in the right direction. I have mixed feelings about some of producer Dallas Sonnier’s “signature” tropes in his movies. I still want to see Dragged Across Concrete and Brawl In Cellblock 99. And I liked Bone Tomahawk, though that will never be a favorite of mine either.
I think because both his parents were murdered in separate incidents a few years apart from each other within the last 20 years, that PTSD informs the vibe of his films. For better or worse.
@@RabbiSteve I've only liked Run Hide Fight out of their roaster. Which of course isn't a DW production just a film they got the rights to after it was already made.
I liked Dragged Across Concrete and Bone Tomahawk well enough and thought Brawl in Cell Block 99 was just ok. A bit silly but entertaining enough.
I don't care much for the culture war when it comes to movies as I don't really watch all that much Hollywood fare in general anymore after they stopped making medium budget films and instead just make soulless blockbusters like the Marvel and DC dreck. I have no patience for kids movies like that. I was done with those comic stories after entering my teens. I simply have no interest in revisiting those soap opera stories of my youth made for children and the new generation of grown ups who like to imagine they're part of Peter Pans group.
I've always liked cinema from all around the world and I've always mixed up my viewing. That way I could always watch the best from everywhere and never run out of quality things to watch when Hollywood went into a drought for this or that reason. Now it's the woke thing but they've had several droughts before for other reasons .
Mix it up I say. Watch movies made elsewhere. They still make regular films in most of the world and of high quality. Much, much better than "Terror on the Prairie" and the other stuff from DW. Enjoying entertainment shouldn't have to be about a culture war and who you align with politically. No fun in that. Lowering ones expectations when there's so much quality films out there in the world to see instead.

Well acted by all.
I like how you framed it at the end. It's a movie that's content to get the job done. That's a mind set that seems lacking in many big budget films now
This world needs way more great westerns. It's not that every story has already been told, but rather decades of Hollywood greed consuming the best parts for themselves, leaving only scraps for the final product. In turn, only 2% of films, maybe less, are unmolested by these same black-hole entities.
Agreed about Westerns. Razörfist has a great video essay about why Westerns are so important.
I'm really happy that the film looks and feels like a professional production being done outside of Hollywood.
Writing and acting can be polished and perfected for future productions. Both are important for the masterpieces of course. But you need a good, solid foundation of professionalism to build from if the goal is to become a competitor to the Hollywood studios.
And it certainly feels like the Daily Wire has nailed it in that regard.

Carano has the advantage that she looks the part. Compare e.g. to latest predator lead.

It was kind of a boring and generic western, but I did like the characters, and that's a rarity nowadays. Not sure what the DailyWire's niche exactly is, but if it gets progressively more non-Hollywood, I'd be looking forward to what's next.
Its a bit sad to say, but i also liked that they did not go "anti woke" in the two Movies i saw from them so far.
They got out two solid Movies and if they can improve from that i will watch their next Movies without hesitation.
Here's hoping!
I think the niche is “not woke or otherwise perverted”. The propaganda is getting so thick it’s hard to even stomach a lot of what’s coming out of Hollywood. At least when the Soviets were pumping millions into Hollywood they didn’t stand up and announce the exact messaging they were putting in the films, they pretended it was all about the art.
Right at the moment, being 'not-Hollywood' is arguably a viable enough niche in and of itself.
@@henriklarssen1331 I appreciate that the DW is trying to make legit good movies instead of just "counter propaganda".
Gina's acting is improving, and I like Gina, so was perfectly willing to support a real attempt by DW and her to make this film. I always remember something Bruce Campbell said - "Die Hard isn't all that interesting, because the protagonist is a well-trained cop. Now, if he had been an accountant, *that* would be interesting." This movie has a protagonist who makes mistakes, is terrified, but fights on anyway. Cheers!

A great movie that I wish more like this were made..... The moments of tension are genuine terrifying, and although it's not the best example of the genre, the movie made a solid effort to keep you on your seat.... With that been said, I admit that there were a few moments that seems a bit of a drag, specially when the mother and son makes coffee in the middle of the siege, but in overall, it was a movie I enjoy and that make me want to see it again.....
For me, it was good, though not great. I still like their first two dramas better Run Hide Fight starring Isabella May (1883) and Shut In. But I am still so grateful they made Terror and gave Gina an opportunity to give Disney and Hollywoke the middle finger.
I would have no problem making coffee during a siege. If there are no targets popping up.....well hell, sit down and take a break.
@@kellywalker8407 Yes, but with movies you have to think about the pacing.
E.g. I have no problem visiting a toilet (even during a siege), but usually you do not show characters toilet breaks in the movies, if there is no especial significance to it (something happens in the toilet or during that time).
I think you were spot on with your take on this film. I hope that The Daily Wire can build on this film. One thing you didn't point out was the complete lack of musical score. I thought that was an interesting way to maintain a subdued realism. Good take.
I like the fact that there was no music in this movie until the very end. It forced you to pay attention and not rely on musical cues. And at the end, the music came back in like a release of tension.

I really liked that the show told the story of people who don't want to pull the trigger, people who pull the muzzle when they fire so the miss because they don't want to pull the trigger, and told a story of how two people with kids can live together in a place where you have to know when to pull the trigger, how and how to aim while doing it. The fact that they showed way way too many times where the scalpers should have died but didn't, means very little to me. I don't watch a movie thinking "This will be perfect". I watch a movie hoping to get one thing out of my 2 hours and time spent illegally downloading it. This movie gave me great visuals, a great relationship between husband and mother, a great kid and cool weapons, when they decided to work finally, like when one of the 4 guys actually died it was like way awesomer than it should have been, because you knew that 25% of the 4 man team represented like 100 bullets of the 400 bullets that didn't hit the team. When the man came in and beat the snake with the rifle butt, so good. Watching the guy jump off horseback to land on one of the men below a 20ft ridge, pretty neat. Watching the neighbor be completely naive and then not getting away and then getting scalped like a pussy, pretty lame, but I can forgive all that as minutia for the majority of stuff that I did and that you can't even see in a classic western let alone today.

Great honest (and accurate) review. Thank you. I liked Terror, but didn’t love it. The actor who played her husband, is not a good actor. I really liked Nick Searcy as the lead antagonist. But I always like him. He steals the movie for me. Of the four movies the DW have done, Terror is good, but is not my favorite. I still like Run Hide Fight (which they didn’t produce, but bought and brought it and the producer of it, Dallas Sonnier and Terror and the middle movie, Shut In to their platform) the best and also Shut In better. Interestingly, all four of their movies (haven’t finished their superhero comedy, The Hyperions yet), feature strong female protagonists.
And of course, their documentaries (such as Matt Walsh’s “What Is A Woman?”) and other informational, philosophical and opinion content, makes the package worthwhile for me. They recently bought and put up the Clarence Thomas documentary. I saw that in the theater and loved it: now there’s a great story of triumph and good vs evil (spoiler alert: one of the “bad guys” is a certain former Senator, currently occupying the WH).
That'll be because the actor who played her husband is recently retired ex-UFC fighter Donald Cerone and this is his first big role.
I give Shut In a thumbs up, but found The Hyperions cringe worthy. Haven't seen the other two, but from clips I've seen, they have me intrigued.
That's Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone of UFC fame...go look him up...you wont regret it as some of his highlights are outstanding!
I do respect how the Daily Wire is making films with no Political Agendas or forced messaging. Just they have a story they want to tell, so the told it. I hope they stick to this and keep to telling story's
I hope in the future they find some interesting stories to tell. The ones they're telling now are very generic and not very interesting. They need some originality. Also, don't hire non-actors like Carano to carry a film. That's not very wise. In fact stick to actual actors in all roles. No need to self sabotage the quality of your own film with these stupid choices.
It's so weird to think the political news organization is better at being non partisan than Wokewood.
@@Fedorevsky I mean they are just starting to branch out and start something new. I think they deliberately chose a safe film with a reliable lead. No shame in that but if they want to really stand out they (as you said) need more Originality. With some Umph! If you get my drift
@@DM-mi4je I think they already have enough platforms to spread their politics, like 7+ RUclips channels worth. So I'm glad they are diversifying
@@Fedorevsky Part of the point of bringing Gina in was to fight cancel culture, because of how unfairly Disney treated her when Pedro Pascal did far worse on social media, but got to keep his job.
By this description it sounds like a western version of assault on precinct 13 and that is my dream movie
I would love to see the daily wire team up with the drinker and make one of his novels into a movie or something new. The drinker knows what good filmmaking is about and his books prove he understands what makes a good story.
Way underrated comment. The DW should be looking into this. Could be done on a budget. And to be blunt, it's better to have more built-in fan base than not. Look at all the CD fans and fellow youtubers CD knows and their fans. Combine DW and they'd have not one, but two big built-in fanbases right out of the gate.
This seems the kind of yeoman fare that was common on American television in the Seventies. A "movie of the week" that features a known star in familiar set and setting, with support from character actors who play the same kind of guy in everything, and a script that is solid if not exceptional. No Oscar winners in the lot, but a solid effort worth the watch on a chill Thursday night.
Only this particular woman isn't really an actor.
Yes, Moses I agree. Remember Duel, the highway thriller starring Dennis Weaver and directed by Spielberg? We need to bring back those movies of the week. They produced some real gems.
@@Fedorevsky I could say something snarky about that being a plus but you are correct.
I would put her in the same ballpark as Seth Macfarlan in the Orville. Not the greatest performance but most certainly a very decent one.
@@grumbeard I cringe every time Mrs. Carano opens her mouth in anything I've seen her in. By all accounts she's a lovely woman and she was a great fighter back when I used to watch her on Strikeforce, but she couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag. That's just the truth of the matter. She's just too self-aware to act.
@@grumbeard eh, he can get away with it because he’s also involved with the production and for what they’re trying to be having subpar acting is kinda on point
Sweet! Looking forward to watching it now.
I'm currently re-reading The Belgariad by David Eddings, and Gina Carano would be perfect (at least in looks) for Polgara the Sorceress.
His Sparhawk was one of the first fantasy heroes I adored.
David Eddings and the great David Gemmell got me into reading when I struggled with my dyslexia.
…I’ve never thought of Gina when reading Polgara, but now that you mention it, yeah!
Lol, get Henry Cavill as Mandorallen? The in-jokes would be hilarious considering he and Gina were an item once upon a time.
Interesting. That would be a massive undertaking as there are 5 books in the Belgariad plus another 4 I believe in the later series. (been a while since I've read them).
Would be a ton of possible casting choices too with so many varied characters who interact with the main core group in so many ways.
The one fear I would have would be similar to Jackson's LotR adaptation where certain things got cut or re-worked in ways I felt hurt the story a LOT (See Saruman dying in Two Towers instead of the way the books handled him).
That actually sounds quite intriguing. I love those series of books.
Gotta love the DW for having the balls to ask the drinker to review.
It's nice to see that Giagantor is still able to find work after Star Wars...
For people like me Its a hard sell unless it's in a cinema.
I like the old, here's the cash thanks for the ticket approach, not automatically renewing monthly subscriptions.
I know why they want (and need) monthly subscriptions, the Daily Wire can't really build a competing infrastructure to a Netflix or Disney+ without one, but I really want an a la carte option. The ability to pay for just 1 movie or show. That goes for all the streaming services. So what if it would cost me $5 or $8 to watch a single movie. 99% of what's available on these services I don't want to see anyway. The things I want to see being made today I can count on the fingers of 1 hand.
Huh. I don’t like westerns but I might actually watch this. I like Gina carano in a general sense, and the clips I saw looked really well shot and interesting. Good on the daily wire, and good for Gina too. Hopefully she keeps honing her craft and getting more roles.
It's not the bestest evar but it's a solid flick. Enjoy!
Watch her in Haywire.
Start with "Tombstone"
The Drinker could talk about Deathwish with Charles Bronson from 1974! Now that is an interesting movie that you wouldn't see today. And it was unusual even in the decade when it was made.
I can tell DW hasn’t come into their own, but I enjoyed it! There were a few plot conveniences but it was great to see a fresh take on a well trodden path.
I appreciated the lack of musical score. lack of music allows the watcher to respond organically w/o being prompted by cues.
melancholy violins = be sad here
heavy low tone brass = foreboding
elongated high pitch violin = suspense
etc.
Obviously the scores in 2001: A Space Odyssey or Jaws set tone for certain scenes and can add to the experience, but there are times when lack thereof sets it's own tone. it gives the audience a chance to experience an authentic personal emotional response to a given stimulus. Not everyone responds the same way in all situations, like watching a murder. Terror on the Prairie lets each do so internally and individually.
Some Extra Shots recommendations: Doomsday, Let Me In (2010), Romancing The Stone, A Boy Called Christmas, Chef, Deep Rising, Meet The Feebles, Solomon Kane, Deathwatch, Apocalypto, The Last Duel and Centurion.
I think that the original movie Let The Right One In is way superior to Let Me In.
Drinker did an interview with Neil Marshall, the director of Doomsday. In that they talk a bit about that movie.
@@jay_mw I know, that's why I recommended both Doomsday and Centurion.
Thanks for the tip, Drinker, I just watched it. Thoroughly enjoyable, aside from one huge plot hole midway, where she has a clear shot and doesn't take it and we don't know why. I was happy to see a great big woman on the prairie because a lot of them were; they had to be. I watched your piece on Gina right after watching The Mandelorian, and am happy to see her working. She's right not to talk too much; her strength is in her physique and the way she uses it. This reminded me of those old Gunsmokes when I was a kid; you'd meet a nice family moving into Dodge City, and you just knew they were going to get trashed in some way.
The drinkers movie reviews are the only reviews I take seriously. For the daily wire to ask drinkers opinion means a lot to me as well.
Solid enough film. I would watch it again. I’d love to see DW get some more budget and make some super amazing movies.
The gunfights were the one thing in this movie that annoyed the hell out of me. I get what they were going for, and it works about 75% of the time, but that 25% is just awful. You have several instances of characters, among them a bloody seasoned marksman, missing open, stationary targets at 5-10 yards.
I also have nitpick about them using weridly modern weapons. Jacketed ammunition, what we would consider a round of ammunition today, didn't really come into play until 1882. Since the movie takes place in somewhere around the early 18070s, they should really be using paper cartridges and percussion caps.
I assume thet would be budget constraints.
Blanks that are made to look like old timey rounds are probably way less common and therefore more expensive
You bring up that the guns would still have paper cartidges, but failed to follow that logic through with your first point. Firearms of that time were not that accurate. I forget who was involved but there is a tale of a man, that was considered a good shot, taking 6 shots from his revolver to hit a man once in the back, at a range of 5 feet.
My firearms instructor hated the movie and part of it was how inaccurate he found the gun play.
This is a movie about people randomly distributing lead and brass into the Montana foothills at velocity.
Finding paper or brass shotgun ammunition for safe blanks would probably be beyond the budget of this film. But I’ll give you the 1872 setting is a little soon for the pistols.
I did not like how lost I felt throughout most of the movie. I felt that maybe I needed to know some historical information to understand what was happening. But when you said she was a rash character and housewife not prepared for this situation it made more sense. Still…. She invited 4 men into her home, then decided they were dangerous and pulled a gun on them. Then stole their guns. My brain was exploding 🤯
One of my favorite RUclipsrs for 3 years before I realized I wasn’t subscribed.
Thank you for this review honestly i was worried but your outline really makes me want to see it plus Nick Searcy is a bad ass who i deff want to see more of
Searcy is a good actor, but also totally batshit insane.
It entertained me. That's all I wanted.
And I fkin love westerns!!
Thanks for reviewing this one. Been putting off watching it for a while now, but i'll have to check it out pretty soon thanks to you.
What is really important about this movie is what you pointed out at the end: That this is an achievable effort, and Hollywood doesn't have to have a stranglehold on the film industry. That good movies can exist OUTSIDE of politics and outside of Hollywood. We need more of this, left right and center.
But isn't the daily wire a right wing news site?
Also isn't it a little bit hard to compete with Hollywood considering how big and ruthless they are?
Thanks Drinker! Nice to see a sane person review a movie from sane people.
🤣🤣 bro your level of sarcasm is just awesome 👍
I can’t wait to see this. Finally a real movie without EXACTLY what you said, CD. I’m so burnt on cgi & fight scenes that are absurd. It’s gone way too far, & the woke libtards have absolutely destroyed iconic movies with their remakes. Gahh
What I appreciated the most here is the info that there’s no stupid cliche smartass quips. Been weary of that for a couple decades. Every single movie has to be ruined by dipshit quips, honestly!! Time & a place, my friends.
Awesome review as always!! Thank you!👏👏👏👏
Glad to hear your review. While I'm not paying for a lot of streaming services right now and I hope Daily Wire will put this on DVD, I am glad to hear it's a regular Western with good imagery and an interesting story. I will watch it if I see it if it's available without a DW sub.
That's cool to hear that you're in direct contact with the DW. I keep hoping that you'll be on a Sunday Special sometime!
Disney shot themselves in the foot when they fired Gina, she had the most charisma in Mando, and absolutely could have carried her own show. Glad she landed on her feet, looking forward to seeing this one.
I like Gina, but let's be real - her acting has all the charisma of a cardboard box.
@@Geronimo_Jehoshaphat At least she looks convincing.
I’m willing to see it but I think the lack of music is a big miss in a western. I just wish we could get a return to a more classic western hero like a Eastwood, spaghetti or Wayne western that has its badass protagonist that doesn’t need to be deconstructed. Old Henry did a pretty good job of that since we haven’t gotten one in so long.
I would have have music as well, but I see why the choice was made. The "quiet" of the movie REALLY helps to create a feeling of isolation and draws out the tense moments. It makes the viewer pay attention because they do not have the emotional cues of the music.
Well, Eastwood's and spaghetti westerns are meant to be (and are considered to be) western deconstruction, in opposite to Wayne's westerns.
Drinker,
Terror on the Prairie is NOT Daily Wire's first movie project. Run Hide Fight is its first and that is a DAMN GOOD movie that you should definitely watch. Great acting. Believable story. Great characters and Isabel May, the lead character is incredible in this movie. I can't recommend this movie enough for people to watch!!!
I was never in love with Carano's performance on Mando, but there was something to her I found endearing. Is she charismatic without having much acting ability? I dunno.
Funny how the people who don't like Gina or Drinker are coming here to say that a movie (that was "mainly released on a Streaming Service") was a bomb in theaters or claiming that Drinker was bought off by the DW in his review.
*your oil money baron check has been cleared*
He trashed Gina until she fit his narrative.
Haven't seen it, so I'll avoid this review until and unless I do. I don't want my opinion influenced before I see it. On a more serious note, I sure hope Drinker's joking around with the "chronic alcoholic" thing. I really like him and that would be sad to hear. Maybe I don't even want to know for sure. I really hope not.
Watch his interview with triggernometry
Pretty sure he has said its just a character.
He drinks but not to insane levels.
That is really my favorite Western movie detail that this, and many others before it occasionally pull off just right: gunfights are a messy, wicked stumble often with the graceful mercy of an instant death. Clouds of dust are kicked up, there's hollering and panicked shouting, wildly aimed shots blowing chunks out of everything in sight.. I'll take a silly action flick that does crazy with it, like Wild Wild West or Sukiyaki Western Django, but grit like this is always the primo touch. And yeah, Carano done a good rough job too, kinda hope this is a sign of things to come from her!
My uncles love westerns, prairie life, and those types of movies. With the premise of "strangers show up at your homestead," this seems to be the perfect movie for them.
Market demand will always create new opportunities. If Hollywood studios, and other entertainment industries, no longer cater to what people want, than others will rise to meet demand.
I wish DW, Eric July, and the others that will follow afterwards the best of luck in establishing new alternatives.
This does look very un-Hollywood and that makes me interested immediately.
It feels a LOT like an old Clint Eastwood film.
It almost reads like "Assault of Precinct 13, The Walton's Edition"
I must have missed this episode of Little House. Half Pint goes rogue 😂
I liked it. It's actually a believable, well written, well acted story.
I saw this movie & so enjoyed it!!!
*Small correction:* this actually wasn't the first major motion picture that The Daily Wire made; that honor belongs to _Run, Hide, Fight_ (which you did cover when it came out), but that one seems to have flown under the radar whereas this one was just too big to ignore for obvious reasons...
Aside from that, good video, Drinker! Keep 'em coming!
Thinking of people not saying much, but actually saying a lot, I'm reminded of the closing shot of the Hammer film, Quatermass and the Pit, where the heroes don't say a word, no profound statements, no smart arsed quips, they just look absolutely exhausted. A simple shot that says almost everything.
It was pretty laughable. I loved the part where in broad daylight she tried to "sneak" to the horses right in front of the bad guys just to get shot by them.
Also I loved when her sharpshooter husband tracks down the bad guys while holding her hostage and he just literally jumps from the high ground into the middle of the camp to be surrounded and taken captive himself by them.
Yeah.
Yeah, that latter scene was pretty stupid.
the whole movie was pretty bad and lackluster
LOL he really thought he could fly
lol
I'm loving the drinkers were views because of this of this he is a natural reviewer reviewer to busta not all over this movie if he was a leftist instead he appears to have given an honest tempered review of a decent movie that's been highly politicized but doesn't sell His soul. But I wonder if he waited to review this because his review wasn't going to be glowing. Nothing wrong with that I just get not wanting To wade in to those waters just yet. Keep your integrity brother that's why I we you
When this movie came out there were a lot of movies to watch and review plus tv shows. Not easy hitting everyone of them.
Solid review, dude.
If you haven't yet seen 'Way of the Gun' or 'Sexy Beast', I can't recommend them enough. They're likely your favorite movies, you just don't know it yet.
'Way of the Gun' is maybe the pulpiest Neo-Western ever made (a few years before 'No Country for Old Men was released) and has some of the most tension filled gun fights ever.
Christopher McQuarriei s currently making the Mission Impossible movies and I think those are the the height of analog action filmmaking and this is his directorial debut.
'Sexy Beast' is pure British Crime Drama that is somehow a love story in disguise that absolutely works on every level.
Both films have tight as nails filmmaking and feature some of the most musical movie dialogue this side of Tarantino. If the term "criminally underrated" has ever been an accurate application to two movies, it's these and they definitely deserve much more love and attention they've been given. I don't think you'd be able to not do a movie review on them if you gave them a shot.
Cheers!
"Sexy Beast" is excellent.
I really like the idea that not every movie needs to reinvent the wheel and be the next ground breaking piece of cinematography, because at some point there's no more ground to break and you fall into a pit. So long as it is well executed and provides entertainment, I would count it as a good movie
