Ray and Sue Sherman from Oklahoma brought their beauty of a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang Sportsroof that they purchased a Barrett-Jackson back in 2011. They paid $88,000 back in 2011 for the car and when the gavel came down again in March of 2021 their Boss set a new world record. $175,000 hammer price with a $17,500 auction house commission. Total sales price was $192,500! They are getting ready to retire and couldn't be a nicer couple.
They took some time out to chat about their car before it crossed the block.

Description
Lot #1275.1 - This 1970 Boss 302 received a complete rotisserie restoration to concours trailered standards performed by a shop that specializes in these cars, and is finished in its original Bright Gold Metallic paint over a black interior. Upgrades include a Shaker hood scoop, rear-window louvers, 15-inch Magnum wheels and trunk-mounted rear spoiler. This Boss 302 was sold new at Main Line Motors in Devon, ME, in February 1970. The painstaking restoration was done to factory specifications and beyond. All of the door, fender and trunk gaps are better than original. The body was finished in Standox base coat/clear coat paint and was color-sanded and buffed to a mirror finish. All of the front and rear suspension was restored to factory colors and finishes to duplicate the factory assembly line procedures, including the original assembly-line color codes and paint markings. The date-code-correct 302ci V8 engine and 4-speed manual transmission have both been gone through and the engine was run on a dyno to ensure this Boss preforms well. All-new date-correct glass was installed, along with new and refurbished stainless and chrome. - Авто/Мото
Oh Man. I had that color scheme on my 70 Mach which I owned from 81 to 89. Always thought it was an outstanding gold.
Very cool to see the Fords getting the recognition they deserve and pricing close to similarly rare-optioned Detroit cars of the same era.
Man it was cuh-razy what some of the stuff sold for ! Fords were gettin' lot's of love at this auction for sure. Hope you are doing great Joe!
Nice to see you back Rich. Was starting to think you were dead from covid. Nice boss. Looking forward to see more of you in the future.
That's what I thought happened.
Jason, Covid didn't kill me but it darn near killed my business. That coupled with being a full time single parent shifted priorities for a bit. Thanks for commenting and watching, please spread the word. I am going to put some more efforts into growing the channel. Thanks!
Rich, What an awesome car. Great to see you back. Thank you very much. You and your family have a blessed weekend.
LORD GOD Bless all and stay vigilant.
Thanks for commenting and watching, much appreciated! Back in action please spread the word. Be safe and be well, God bless you too.
Glad to see you back Rich ! Thanks for showing this top quality Boss 302. It's a car to be proud of.
Thanks Lloyd, I hope all is well with you, trying to get back in the YT swing of things.
About bloody time were you been
Single Dad with an 11 year old who has been at home on Zoom meetings for school for all of 5th grade. Hence priorities, it was a nice break, she starts in person again and I will be back with lots more content. Need to grow the channel to make it worth my time. Any and all sharing is much appreciated.
Rich,I am 8 months behind on my You Tube watching. For some reason,You Tube hasnt been informing me of your vid releases. So Im going to go back about two years and try to catch up with your vids. Your channel is gonna get a lot of action from me.

Thank you and more to come!
Hey , Glad to see you r back, we missed you! My son can get his Mustang fix again :) We all hope you are doing well.
Hello there, Glad to see your comment. Tell your son we are back in action! Hope all is well with you too!
Rich, where the hell have you been?? Nice car. Trying wrap my head around the fact that he bought it for 88k and now it sells for 192k? Who would pay that kind of premium..it’s not even a numbers matching car. In my opinion, all the NOS parts and options don’t mean much when the engine is not original to the car. The auctioneer said a “date correct 302”..scratching my head on this one
Hey man, been busy being a single Dad to my 11 year old who is home full time doing school via Zoom, plus Covid has crushed my real income source. Hence haven't had much time and needed a break. Back now and need everyone's help in sharing the channel. This car is very, very nice but yes it was cobbled together. NOM and it was a flat hood, standard interior car originally. The NOS parts and the level of resto make it an awesome Boss, but 200k worth? Well the new owner thought so. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice to see you back Rich!
Hey, thanks! More on the way John!
To not only own one of these gorgeous & rare Fords, but three? Must be nice!❤😯👍😎🇺🇸
Very nice couple, they own several other Shelbys and Mustangs still.
@@MustangConnection1 Now I'm even more jealous! Fortunate folks indeed
beautiful car
WOW....BIG error right away on a Metuchen Restoration of a Boss 302. Oil Breathers were not Chrome but painted Black from that Plant! Dearborn cars were Chrome. No OK stamp on Valve Cover. A lot of things missed. Beautiful Car of Course but some elementary things missed on restoration.
My Reception terrible,Did he buy it from Popular Dallas Area Dealer,One of Top 3 Rarrest Colors,I Tried Bidding on the One in Dallas Years ago,was Mag.Car& Way Out of my league on Price @ Time.BJ Always Gets More than Mecum ,Usually on Rare Beauties like this.Perfect Example!!!
Ed, Hey, they bought this car at Barrett-Jackson back in Scottsdale in 2011 for 88k and then held it for the past 10 years so that is where they got it originally. A rare color for sure. Hope you are well and safe!
Super nice but not original numbers matching, did not say low miles. So originals will go for more money.
It was a big number and very surprising. I don't think you are going to see this dollar number surpassed anytime soon. This was an auction anomaly and doesn't set the market price. No way concours Boss 302's are jumping to this price. They just aren't rare enough to garner that kind of money, this one included. You had a few people fall in love with it on this particular day, who wanted it right then and right there.
That is a beautiful Boss 302 no doubt about it, but I have to say where does it go from there? Where is the upside to that car when it has a NOM and all of the fancy options were added ?
I have to agree that is top, top money.
👍👍
Right back at you Matthew!
Awesome. And holy. Not one person wearing a mask. Pathetic
Wes, Yes killer Boss. FYI EVERYONE inside had a mask on and it was heavily policed by security, outside their was no mask mandate per the State law in AZ.
My apologies. I seen that later. Commented to soon.
