Excellent actress and sadly underrated. She was a delight when paired with Jimmy Stewart, especially The Shop Around the Corner (1940). She was also terrific in her very last film No Sad Songs for Me (1950), in which she plays a dying wife and mother who helps her husband and daughter to prepare for the day when she is no longer there. The latter film is a sleeper, but featured some of her best acting.
Margaret Sullavan had three children all by the famous theatre and Broadway producer Leland Hayward. They had quite a tempestuous relationship. Henry Fonda's son Peter Fonda became very good friends with Margaret's two youngest children Bill and Bridget Hayward. There was even talk I think of Peter and Bridget Hayward getting married. If I remember Bridget Hayward shot and killed herself a few months after her mother in the same year 1960. Peter later named his actress daughter Bridget Fonda after her. Bill Hayward lived until his 60's but eventually died from some kind of overdose. The oldest daughter Brooke Hayward later wrote a best seller about her parents life. She was also very good friends with Peter's sister Jane Fonda. I don't know if Brooke Hayward is still living today and if she is she would be well into her 80's.
She's not Jane Maureen O'Sullivan, who portrayed Jane Parker with Johnny Weissmuller in the 1932 film and its first few sequels, was the most famous screen Jane.
Source, please? I am unaware of Maggie Sullavan and Jimmy Stewart ever having had an affair, and the poster who, using ai, posts under multiple names, has a history of making stuff up.
Read Slim by Slim Hawkes- Hayward-Keith; Leland Hayward left Margaret for Slim, Slim had to deal with kids’ obvious mental health issues while Leland worked; issues overcame the couple, with affairs on both sides. Leland left Slim for Patricia Churchill, and what a story. When Margaretand daughter offed themselves, Leland’s health deteriorated quickly, & Pamela had to care for him. The guilt Leland Hayward must have ate him up from the inside. Incredible stories all around
I can’t help but think she was one of those who was born at the wrong time - actually a good actress and probably far more relatable compared to the likes of Grace Kelly but nowadays people appreciate that more. It’s strange but I think people find it far more enchanting when you get two actors who perhaps aren’t the most glamorous or handsome but have chemistry together like nothing else 🔥 when you think about the most romantic films out there you notice it often.
Well, you give yourself a lot of credit with such a superficial comment on the matter and it is funny that you think you will tarnish James Stewart's name or talent by your bitterness and ill words. James Stewart, of all his qualities was known for his extreme politness, never had he ever spoke ill of anyone all his life, the fact is, one can not say same thing about you.
@@dr.zahraasaad8644Thank you. I’ve always loved Jimmy Stewart. From what I’ve read, he served in wwII and was a good, decent man who was a great husband and father. Great actor too.
@cadaverdog1424 What a stupid, dishonest statement. Jimmy Stewart was by far the greatest actor of the talkie era, and nobody who knew anything about him ever called him a "low-life."
I believe there was an unfulfilled infatuation between these two.
She and Jimmy Stewart had great chemistry together in their film pairings.
I always liked her. Such a charming actress. Sad life for a talented lady.
Jimmy was very much in love with Ms. Sullavan. It's obvious in all their scenes in all of their films.
Jimmy was a low-life. No class. Overrated actor of limited range. Such a joke.
Especially shop around the corner
@@audreydaleski1067 Yes. Also in "The Mortal Storm".
Thanks for her story and that tough affair.

L
Brooke Hayward & Jane Fonda are still alive. Also Bill Hayward committed suicide by a gunshot to the head.
The daughter died of a drug overdose and the son died due to suicide by gun.
I wonder what would have happened if she had just agreed to date Jimmy honestly from the beginning....
Brooke Hayward’s book Haywire tells the story of her family.
Yes, I read that years ago. Great book. 👍
I hadn't even heard of this actress. I'll have to look up her films.
God, that's so sad!!
She's not Jane

I think this is a mixture of truth, gossip, made-up exaggerating story.
That’s so sad 😢

Slim in my view was a cheat and a homewrecker. Also somewhat of a manipulator. That's my between the lines deduction.
She's before my time but still interesting. I didn't know Jimmy was such an alley cat.
Just like anyone else, when young people work together in close proximity the hormones will fly.
Talk about Natalie Wood,Warren Beatty and Robert Wagner, pleaseeeee
I saw Natalie Wood in person: I was on one of those glass-bottomed boat tours off Catalina, and she was down on the sea floor with the sea anemones.
0:09 Betty Grable and Dan Daily
“Dorky personality”?! Jimmy was a charmer , albeit shy- but definitely not dorky
Very interesting thank you
she looks like the woman that acts as charlie sheens mom on 2 an half men
❤😊
She wasn't a raving beauty, actually pretty average looking.
I didn't like her voice.
That was one of her most complemented characteristics.
She was one of my least favorite... Not a good actress and unattractive to boot.
