I was an Airman stationed at Sembach, Air Base, in Germany, and the Beautiful Moreno sisters , turned me on to this song. Thank you Tonya, Barbara Moreno,
This song blew me away back in high school. Those people that only knew the hits Prince had on the radio really missed out on his true greatness. All his songs were amazing, true, but the songs that were not released as singles were usually his best work. Free, Lady Cab Driver, The Ladder to name just a few. An amazing force in music that will continue to be apart of our lives and hopefully many generations after us.
In 1983-84 i was abused severely, and listening to free by Prince would get me through the day or sometimes just 15 mins, but i know that song is what kept me sane.
I just have been grieving his death. Some don't understand and I don't really care. If there is one thing I've learned from Prince, it is to not worry about what others think. His music was my friend through so many difficult times in my life. I'm 45 so he was there through break ups, my parent's divorce. He brought so much comfort when I struggled with my own gender questions when I reached puberty. He was there. I wasn't alone. And he was so positive. I'm a musician too so I can see his genius. So much loss and so I'll cry sometimes as well as dance.
+Kim Weir I can totally relate to what you have written, Kim. I'm a 47yr old male and have listened to Prince since the early 80s. His music saw me through the worst times in my life. Rarely has there been an artist with such an innate ability to express pure emotion in the way Prince did. As a musician, myself, I too could appreciate his gifted, Mozart-like genius to song writing and performance. Prince was a force of nature. I doubt any of us will witness his like again in our lifetimes. I know I will be listening to his work to the end of my days. Rest in Peace, Prince. Thank you.
brian t I totally agree Brian. I've called him a modern Mozart. There isn't another like him and never will be. Just when I think I'm handling his death better, something happens and I cry again. Last night, I was listening to 'God' and the tears just started falling. There is literally a phenomenon going on and many fans don't understand why they are taking his death so hard. But his raw expression is probably so much of it. And we're trying to grasp why we are so affected. I call it the Prince Phenomenon.
+Kim Weir i know eactly what you mean. i can't listen to some songs because i will just end up crying . He was definitely a rare gem that we will never be able to find again. He was just awesome in every sense of the word . R.I.P. Prince 💜💜💜💜💜😢😢😢😢😢
Kim thank you for your post. I can't talk to anyone about how sad and devastated I am Prince has passed. I watch his videos every night and cry like a baby. I feel grief like I've never felt before. I totally get it when you mentioned "Prince Phenomenon". It's nice not to feel alone.
I just heard 'Let's Go Crazy' while at a department store. It bothered me. That song specifically is upsetting because of the lyrics about life and death and 'the elevator'. It is just bizarre since he was found in an elevator.😟
She is w u n eye 👁️ understand how u feel my mothers who eye haven’t seen 23 years passed in Ethiopia 🇪🇹 in car accident the sad thing is she knew eye was coming to c her n eye hate Mother’s Day the sad thing is she died 2 weeks prior my arrival
I have been a Prince fan since the first album. I remember going to the record store to buy each one. When I got home I put each one on my turntable and listened. For every one there is always one song that captures my heart and on 1999 “Free” was the one. The song I pick doesn’t have to be a hit or a released single, it just has to touch me in that way that I can’t describe.
That statement is not correct. If not for those who acquiesced to the genius of Prince, you wouldn't be listening to today. In my opinion, there should have been more fans who understood the intelligence of this man. The genius spoke to me in 1978. Black side out.
One of the most beautiful songs Prince has ever wrote. I love this song, the lyrics have so much meaning and now he has passed on the lyrics have even more meaning. This man was brilliant and a genius. His music touched me in a very deep way. Prince was the ultimate genius and musician. R.I.P. Prince Rogers Nelson
I totally agree. I personally prefer & love this track & it's meaning versus Purple Rain any-day. I also like the fact he had all the girls together singing back-up: during the recording session - Lisa, Jill Jones, Vanity, & Wendy.

ohhhhhh, so lovely. :' ) heavenly Prince, I miss you so! Prince's music, especially this song was the soundtrack to my youth!! Prince never really leaves us, he just turns into things like butterflies, heavenly light rays, glowing sunsets, gorgeous moonlights, unicorn glitter dust, sweet smelling rains, swirling super novas, and beautiful flora swaying in the cooling breezes reaching for never-ending beautiful blue skies......
This is a song that NBC needed all Americans to hear on our country's 240th birthday. BE GLAD YOU ARE FREE! FREE TO CHANGE YOUR MIND... FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO BE FREE!!!
I have been a fan since 1979; I was living in West Germany 🇩🇪 Prince was beyond his years, considering all the craziness that is going on in this world 🌎💔😢 This song 🎵 is so befitting. God called you home; however, we will always remember your beautiful music 🎶 such a true musician....gone too soon 04/21/2016.....
Love this song right here. Philippians 4:8 Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise, dwell on these things.
I'll never forget buying this album for Little Red Corvette, but then I played this song and i finally realized how deep and otherworldly Prince was...... RIP my beloved Prince for you are truly free!
Prince was trying to tell us something. listen to the lyrics! I feel him in this song reminds me of people in third world countries that are trapped and reminds me of prisoners that are locked in the prison system. Such a lost I hope God welcomed him with open arms. prince was truly talented and blessed with a musical gift. his music will love one.....
This is the very 1st song that I heard by Prince in late '83 or early '84 & I got hook on Prince & his music ever since & have been a Prince friend ever since, it's unbelievable how much his music has helped me throughout my life & has helped me become who & what I am today, thankx 4 sharing this & thank you Prince, nice video also, I generally don't watch videos cuz for me they take away from the meaning of the song, but this video doesn't do that 👍 thanks 4 sharing
Prince you were such an inspiration. You touched the world. When this came out I was a little girl. You are forever in my heart. Sing for the angels now. Rest In Peace!!
Patricia Bradley Mine too. Prince was a friend of mine. When he still had 1st Avenue in Minneapolis Minnesota is when I met him. I was at both of us houses wanted me to talk on the one who died at in Chanhassen Minnesota. I was not there when he died. I grew up in the area.
+T. S. Bath (Sys) Me too! I am such a huge PRINCE FAN! I would have given almost anything to have met him and have him be be my music teacher to teach me to play a lot more musical instruments!! :(
i was 9 the first time i heard this I'm 43 now we didn't know him but we knew him he has been in some of our lives forever so this the color purple will never be the same wow 💔
I too am 43 now and was about 10 and this changed me then and I cry as I think of how intensely this song affected me. Purple will truly never be the same
The best lesson he gave us was to not care about what others think and pursue what ever you want to do, because you have only this time on earth so use it for something good, you can always rest in the afterworld
Prince You Are FREE Now! Rest In Heavenly Peace Your Royal Purple One! You Will Be Greatly Missed! Your Genius & Talent Will Live On Forever Through Your Awesome Music!
My favorite off the 1999 album. The Electricifying MoJo use to play this track (and every song on the 1999 album) on 98.7 WJLB back in 1982. Prince you will be missed. Under-rated song.
Today, it's been 5 months seen Prince left us with just his music and his spirit! This song shows , once again, how in spite of everything going on around us, we are still "Free"😄☔️☔️💜
Around 33 years ago, my ears were pleasured by the lyrical, vocal, instrumental & most powerful versus' from this Genius of Musicology that GOD allowed our world to cherish for the time he was with us, as well, the remaining days of this earthly life we still here live. In the next, I truly hope to find, in spirit & peace, THIS King of Music that we will always remember as PRINCE. ❤1another. Thank you Sir Prince Rogers Nelson for all you've infinitely inspired us all with.♦ 💯🎵💯♦
This also, is one of my favorite songs by Prince. I'm leaving messages on each video I watch because I just can't say enough about how much he is missed and loved!! #Prince4Ever
Kindred Spirit-I've been doing the same. He was and still so influential. It was awesome to me that he went back to wearing his natural(hair). It's as if he came full circle physically and spiritually. Love Him😘
I’ve loved this song every sense I was a teenager. Now I’m 57 and it’s still one of my favorites. I like the line when he sings “I know my heart is beating, my troubles tell me so” . I like it, because the fact is, the only people with no trouble are in the graveyard 😳
I can relate. I had this song’s album when it first came out. “Free” has stuck with me for years. Now l’m 58. The theme of “Free” is still very very relevant till this day.
@@econhelp583 similar age as you- he sings this with so much raw emotion- have a feeling this song is at the top of his list of his most meaningful songs. It always moves me to tears.
My most favorite song by Prince. I love all of his music but this has been a favorite for decades. Been sad for days since hearing of his passing. A genius has been taken from this world.
1999 was one of the two cassettes I wore out listening to so much. And this song, was one of my favorites. Heck, they were all my favorite. One of the best, by a musical genius. Thanks Prince for laying down the funk, pop, R&B, and rock & roll.
They use to play this all the time on our local dance show in Detroit ,The Scene. I loved him since 1980....still can't believe he's gone! My heart is crushed!
I just have to express the fact that this song helped me tremendously. It was a very dark time in my life when this song came out. I was in High School & multitudes of people made fun of my condition. I listened to this song after embracing my parents hitting the rewind button over & over. I said if I ever met Prince I wanted to thank him for making this cut...Now he's gone & never had the chance......Although I have the chance to express that this song helped me many days when I was teary eyed....And yes I overcame those dark days & I'm TRULY FREE TO CHANGE MY MIND....Thanks Prince! mmj
I live in Pensacola, Florida. Our town has been shaken to its core with the shooting at Pensacola NAS. This song has been running through my mind for days. God bless those who sacrifice so much. 🙏❤️💜
Lauren Stevens-Vrem He was the first with his vocal range in a day of where the genre of my friends we were all going to see Ozzy and ACDC and DIO, but I fell I love with Prince. .my dad was horrified. . I didn't care he was horrified about anything I liked but to find out another one of my favorites who's also gone Layne Staley who tried to sing differently than what the band Alice in Chains sounded like but the label and that's what the band talked him into..so they were GRUNGE, Metal..He said in an interview I found he loved Prince while he was in high school and he was one of Laynes influences. I was like WOW... made my love Layne even more too and think about him and think well maybe his addictions were due to his depression bc he's had to sing what he really didn't want to ..his last band MAD SEASON he was able to write most all the lyrics and all..by that time he still had an amazing vocal range, but it still had a toll on it due to his health decline, he also has features in other bands showing his diversity. . just wanted to show someone else's love for Prince from the Grunge metal era who isn't here anymore, but im sure was happy to welcome him! 💜💜💞💞much love Prince and Layne..
This always has been one of my favorite prince songs. Been hanging with his since his first album when i was in middle school. Jehovah won't forget you my spiritual brother and you are promised a resurrection from him in paradise here in earth. Hope to see you then my brother.
one of the best songs he done i miss him so much havnt stopped grieving for him and crying and i am only a fan but he was there always there one devastated fan who will never understand why 😢😢😢😢💖💖 rip prince xxx

😊
love this, such beautiful words. Thank You 😪 missing Prince So Much💜💜💜
20/20 we still missing you Rodger Prince charming
FREE.. Now he is FREE .. May He R.I.P... THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR FAITH WITH US.
This song speaks for itself "FREE". R.I.P
+Larry Kirkland I concur hardily! I prefer this jam verse Purple Rain.
+Dulles Fishenden we all should be free.
One of my favorite songs, ever. Very touching.
+Michael Archangel Mine as well! I actually prefer this over PURPLE RAIN. I personally find this balled track to be more meaningful.
This is a song that NBC needed all Americans to hear on our country's 240th birthday.
BE GLAD YOU ARE FREE! FREE TO CHANGE YOUR MIND... FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO BE FREE!!!
Yes!
We need the sentiment of this song now more than ever.
He knew what was coming.
💜
I have been a fan since 1979; I was living in West Germany 🇩🇪 Prince was beyond his years, considering all the craziness that is going on in this world 🌎💔😢 This song 🎵 is so befitting. God called you home; however, we will always remember your beautiful music 🎶 such a true musician....gone too soon 04/21/2016.....
This is sincere patriotism.
Love this song right here.
Philippians 4:8
Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise, dwell on these things.
Say that !!!!!!!!!!!
Crying for loss, but thanking for gain. His music and spirit will live forever. Thank God.
Such a lost I hope God welcomed him with open arms. prince was truly talented and blessed with a musical gift. his music will love one.....
so beautiful, and so true!
That's what I always thought this song reminded me of
Beautiful song by a beautiful man gone too soon
This is the very 1st song that I heard by Prince in late '83 or early '84 & I got hook on Prince & his music ever since & have been a Prince friend ever since, it's unbelievable how much his music has helped me throughout my life & has helped me become who & what I am today, thankx 4 sharing this & thank you Prince, nice video also, I generally don't watch videos cuz for me they take away from the meaning of the song, but this video doesn't do that 👍 thanks 4 sharing
What a truly great song.

One of My Favorite Prince Songs❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Prince you were such an inspiration. You touched the world. When this came out I was a little girl. You are forever in my heart. Sing for the angels now. Rest In Peace!!

Purple Yoda Lover I thought u were 12 yrs old
The best lesson he gave us was to not care about what others think and pursue what ever you want to do, because you have only this time on earth so use it for something good, you can always rest in the afterworld
This song was our Class 8th Grade Graduation song! It will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart! 💗
Prince THEY got it wrong!!!!!!----YOU----ARE THE KING OF POP YOU BEAUTIFUL ONE!!!
Prince You Are FREE Now! Rest In Heavenly Peace Your Royal Purple One! You Will Be Greatly Missed! Your Genius & Talent Will Live On Forever Through Your Awesome Music!
This song always reminded me of my 8th grade teacher, Margaret. Now Prince and Margaret are both gone.
true in 2019 we miss you Our Purple Highness...Elvis will ever be in your shadow ;)
My favorite off the 1999 album. The Electricifying MoJo use to play this track (and every song on the 1999 album) on 98.7 WJLB back in 1982. Prince you will be missed. Under-rated song.
Bennie Collins Sr.

"When you're nearing the end of your rope, tie a knot, don't let go... 'Cause it ain't nobody bad, like you." Thanks Mojo and thanks Prince!
Today, it's been 5 months seen Prince left us with just his music and his spirit! This song shows , once again, how in spite of everything going on around us, we are still "Free"😄☔️☔️💜
He had so much insight.... a gift from god... and I just can't seem to get over that you're no longer here to shed your light and wisdom on us all...
One of the most beautiful and yet underrated songs ever written. R.I.Paradise Purple One. Be glad that u r free. May we all live 2 c the dawn!

Love Him😘
right he was a great individual
❣
This Song Says So Very Much.

My most favorite song by Prince. I love all of his music but this has been a favorite for decades. Been sad for days since hearing of his passing. A genius has been taken from this world.
THE PLANET EARTH WAS TRULY BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO HEAR THIS ANGEL FROM HEAVEN ON EARTH...ALL PRAISES TO THE MOST HIGH
Such a loss! I've been a Prince fan since I was still a teen, over thirty years ago. I can't listen to this song without tearing up. : (
good bye, Prince. And thank you for all the music your shared with us.
Prince had inside prophecy...Revelation at a High Level...Timeless lyrics...Still being revealed Today...Thanks Pass Icon Level..Sure Legend!
Annika Harris yes
1999 was one of the two cassettes I wore out listening to so much. And this song, was one of my favorites. Heck, they were all my favorite. One of the best, by a musical genius. Thanks Prince for laying down the funk, pop, R&B, and rock & roll.
Andy Miranda friend lover sister mother wife is awesum as well..it's on the emmcipation cd
They use to play this all the time on our local dance show in Detroit ,The Scene. I loved him since 1980....still can't believe he's gone! My heart is crushed!
7 years..... Still miss him. 😔💜
I just have to express the fact that this song helped me tremendously. It was a very dark time in my life when this song came out. I was in High School & multitudes of people made fun of my condition. I listened to this song after embracing my parents hitting the rewind button over & over. I said if I ever met Prince I wanted to thank him for making this cut...Now he's gone & never had the chance......Although I have the chance to express that this song helped me many days when I was teary eyed....And yes I overcame those dark days & I'm TRULY FREE TO CHANGE MY MIND....Thanks Prince! mmj
Thank you for sharing! I still hit the rewind on this one too!
+Shawn Trimble I'm glad it helped you as well....
mmjaljs 😊

BE GLAD THAT YOU ARE FREE! THERE ARE MANY A MAN THAT ARE NOT!
THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR AMERAICAN VETERANS!
.
I live in Pensacola, Florida. Our town has been shaken to its core with the shooting at Pensacola NAS. This song has been running through my mind for days. God bless those who sacrifice so much. 🙏❤️💜
Many of our Veterans weren't Free, though they fought for ours.
Please dont show me it's too much I cant stop looking at that beautiful face😔😭😟👏🏼🙏🙌💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The baddest man to have ever done it. A genuine artist, and one of the loneliness souls that has ever existed, besides mine.
I am not even able to describe, what and how his music shaped me.
💜💜💜
Same here bruh same here
Lauren Stevens-Vrem He was the first with his vocal range in a day of where the genre of my friends we were all going to see Ozzy and ACDC and DIO, but I fell I love with Prince. .my dad was horrified.
