EL SITIO DE ZARAGOZA (zarzuela) / Banda Simfònica d'Algemesí

"El Sitio de Zaragoza" is a descriptive fantasy on military themes composed by Cristóbal Oudrid in 1848. The work was originally conceived as incidental music for the play El sitio de Zaragoza by Juan Lombía.
The work contains numerous fragments of marches, taps and other military compositions from the time of the sieges, which demonstrates Oudrid's knowledge of the military music of that time. Its ideological similarity with Tchaikovsky's famous 1812 Overture should be highlighted, both for the period and the situation it refers to and for the romantic national exaltation in the face of Napoleonic imperialism.
The Algemesí Symphony Orchestra performs the zarzuela "El Sitio de Zaragoza", by Cristóbal Oudrid, in the Member's Concert held on February 4, 2023 at the Municipal Theater of Algemesí.
