I don't know how the RUclips algorithm had this in my "recommended videos", but now I'm sad. I can't imagine being so far from the comforts of home and wantoks. Thank God I live in North Queensland, Australia - where you meet Pidgin speakers everyday, whether they're from PNG, SI, Vanuatu or the Australian Torres Strait Islands.

Thanks for your comment. Yes - it's her mother's language, Tawala, which is endangered but here she speaks in the language she is more comfortable in, Tok Pisin, which, as you say, is quite safe. We hope to present something in Tawala soon, as well.
Kumul nation enkyu stret! Writing a lot of poetry lately and this has rekindled a need to write in tok pisin for all thebyoung kumuls that will be born in nests outside the mama kantri
Very impressive, Ilona Rayan! Being away from your home country for a very long time but your fluency in tok pisin is very impressive. Quite a sharp contrast to those indigenous Papua New Guineans who spent less than 10 years away from the country and have 'lost' their accent of tok pisin.

Yu wokim gudpela samtin tru lo strongim tokples blong yumi long PNG. Yes loss of our indigenous language is a threat to this unique culture diversity we have in our island nation. New Guinea Binatang Research Center is currently doing a survey (ethnobiology) on our young generation (Grades 11&12s) in Secondary Schools across the country. From preliminary results there seems to be a 50 -60% loss of language uptake by the young generation.
