    On the IRT, most of the changes are for yard access. The 4 trains that terminate at Burnside Avenue run express from 167th Street to Burnside Avenue, then layup to Mosholu Yard. The 5 service to/from Neried Avenue in the PM rush has very little demand, and is mostly for yard access. Also, ALL 5 trains run express between E. 180th and 149th Street 3rd Avenue in the peak direction during rush hours, both from Neried Avenue and from Dyre Avenue. This I'd like to see all day.

      I actually worked on Lexington in mid town and lived off of Nereid so that line was actually vital for me in making it a one seat ride. Ultimately though I would have traded that in for all day express service from one of them starting at E 180 until E 149.

    I grew up on the #2 Line at 233rd Street Station. I have been saying for a very long time to have the #5 Train run express from Gun Hill Road to E. 180th Street as well as 180th Street to 3rd Avenue-149th Street. That will be so much more of a faster trip to Manhattan!!

    • @coolboss999

      I thought some of the 5 trains do that already no?

    • @pbatommy
      @pbatommy 2 года назад +7

      Before 1960, that actually was the case. Complaints from riders at Allerton Avenue and Pelham Parkway at the time, caused a service change. Today, due to low demand, there are plans to reinstate the express service, but with trains originating, and terminating at Gun Hill Road on the 2.

    • @MysticTransit

      Some of them already do, however, it is very limited service.

      When I left in 2004, they only had the 5 train run express from Gun Hill Road to E. 180th Street when they had construction going on during the Mid-Day, but never for Peak Rush our service. I will have to reach out to someone else to find, they may have very well changed it, but can't verify that?

    1:53 Going towards New Lots Ave, there are actually multiple 2 trains between 9 and 11 in the morning that ends there. Going towards Manhattan from New Lots after around 7 in the morning is when there is only 1 to Wakefield with a 4 to Woodlawn and a 5 to Dyre leaving before the 2 does. Also in the PM rush hours, there are some 2 trains that also begin at New Lots heading into Manhattan.

    The W trains should be given an official rush hour route in Brooklyn but instead of going to sea beach it would run via the West End along the D train to Bay Parkway then head straight to the Coney Island Yard this would reduce waiting times on 4th Avenue and west end. This also removes the bottleneck at Whitehall street. Further this might free up some D trains to run express on west end creating a sort of super express service. AM Rush Hours Express to Manhattan PM Rush Hours Express to Coney Island. The express service won’t be needed but it could be considered.
    During Midday the W train should be extended only up to 9th Avenue since they isn’t really much of a demand for all that service on west end during those times but in order to make sure that the R train at least has decent timing i would recommend reopening the lower level of 9th Avenue to Terimate those W trains to prevent slowing down the D train there. The W train would then go to the 36th-38th street yard after terminating at 9th Avenue.

    • @m34tgaming16
      @m34tgaming16 2 года назад +3

      I agree with your idea, but however, the lower level already has 2 trackbeds, and rehabilitation of the level would take some time, so I believe at 9 av the W on middays should use the middle track to terminate, just like the Brown M during late 2001 - Early 2004

    Shame the 3/138 St site does not have separate platforms and approaches for stopping and express services. Naturally this might also be useful for other stations with similar challenges.
    I am also pleased to hear of the proposed study into platform edge doors like on the London Underground on the eastern end of the Jubilee Line and the central part of he new Crossrail / Elizabeth line service. This makes waiting on the platform a nicer experience, reduces the risk of track incursions (items dropped or passengers on the line).
    Another thing I also prefer s the walkthrough carriages as it allows better distribution of passengers at peak times.

    It would be sensible if they had the B rush hour service trains run to Bedford Park all day. When I was a kid D train service in the Bronx used to be supplemented all day with the former CC train now known as the C train that goes to 168th street. That's right, way back in the day the D train was supplemented by what used to be the CC double letter train now the C train. They swapped terminals in the North in the late 1990s. As a kid I remember CC trains provided supplemental service to the D train and they use those really old and they were old even back then the r10 cars.

    Here's how the A is now since I work on it. There are 3 put ins on the PM that go in service from 145 to Lefferts n Far Rock. The Showcases(Rockaway Park) go in service from 168 and the last one the 1716 originates at Dyckman or 207 depending on the trains. The R68 interval sits at 135 spur and rarely gets used nowadays. In my opinion if it was making that trip from Far Rock it should drop out at 125 st or 145 Lower since it has to go back to Concourse or Coney Island.

    Lol why so much hate for the D?
    Also, the R isn't that bad, I've managed to catch a couple on my visits to NYC. Also the run to 96st is similar to the RR to Astoria in the 70s, which changed to a QB.
    that N/Q setup is rather interesting.
    Your last W leaves Astoria around 10ish pm. Cool that they store those at city hall though.l

      AM rush hour 5's via 7th Av have been occurring frequently due to construction at 149 St-Grand Concourse on the center track. This done to avoid congestion which would be caused by southbound AM rush hour 4 and 5 trains running only on the local track between 149 St and 125 St.
