Just got my second hand GX9 from Japan of eBay. Really enjoying it so far. It reminds me why I got into M4/3 in the first place. Over the years my M4/3 system has gained weight with the EM1 Mii and lenses like the 12-100 f4 pro. Those Panny Leica lenses look big too. But the GX9 with some of the smaller lenses like the Panny 20 f1.7 and it’s a match made in heaven.
I have this grip on my GX80. Never had problem putting it on. You don't actually need to take the screw all the way out. Just line it up with it connected and screw in, much easier. it also moves the tripod socket further back which I think is better.
loved the real-time as-it-happens product approach. it's not a reviewers job to show a product in its best light and too many RUclipsrs seem to think it is. Have you come across Panasonic's own additional grip, the Panasonic DMW-HGR2 - it's got a bigger grip that the JJC and GX users are looking for someone to compare them :)
thanks for the video Grant. I'm just trying out a new GX9 I got last week to see if I'll get used to the ergonomics. the JJC grip does look appealing - how do you find that sharp edge of its arca swiss plate? Saw one owner not liking it. Others, not mentioning it.
First-day impressions: the finger grip feels so "right" it feels part of the camera. Battery and SD card are just as accessible/inaccessible. The arca-swiss compatible plate: I've no plans to use the GX9 on a tripod but it might come in handy; my smallest finger can stay above the arca-swiss front edge which, to those with larger hands, might be uncomfortable. I used the washer to tighten the screw and the grip feels secure on the GX9.
The grip is very useful. It offers more stability for shooting. However the bottom edges are sharp and t is not comfortable to hold in the long run. There's no bevel and this hurts the palm of my hand. I just compared with another video showing the Panasonic handgrip. This one appears to be beveled and deeper. I think it will be much more comfortable to use. The question is the bottom hole or the beveled bottom the most important feature ? I wish I could find somebody to bevel the bottom of the JJC plate... and repaint it :)
I got one of those 3D printed ones with the one I bought. Not exactly loving it. Might try the JJC ones because I loved the one I had on my Fuji X100V.
@@grantrobertdavies I generally love the smaller lenses on the GX series and only use the larger lenses on the G9 but yeah, this 3D printed one weighs like nothing.
The JJC grip makes the GX85 feel like a new camera. The body has the worst feel of almost any camera I've used, but the JJC grip makes it eminently usable. Once the grip is on, it can stay forever because the battery and memory card are still accessible.
@@grantrobertdavies So do you no longer recommend the GX9? I don’t use it for video I want it for stills! But I’m really debating on what type of camera to get. Just wanting to upgrade from my canon 80 D
@@collinsal1433 Hey - Yes! Still a GREAT camera and I highly recommend it 📷 I’ve just started to do more video work and the GH5ii ticked more boxes for my workflow :) But yeah for stills it’s awesome! If your looking to invest into the Micro 4/3 also look at the G9 - great stills camera too :)

3D Printed - that’s awesome :) yeah man, well worth the investment - really adds a good grip to the gx9, especially with larger lenses 📷

The grip is v useful. Why not pair the GX9 with the Pana Leica 15mm f1.7 that's a great street combo
Yes - that’s a great street combo :)
I think I'm gonna stick a googley eye on the AF/AE back button on my GX9.
Still looks like a tank with that lens. Love my lx100.
Yes Tank :)

I totally agree :) I actually just traded my gx9 because of the handling (even with the grip) lol
@@grantrobertdavies Oh! So what do you have in the place of the GX9?

The kids and the data? Or is that a local term for dad? Just curious! Thanks for the video.
"Dada" (Father) :)
