Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020, Thailand and now Sri Lanka. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult sons. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. Van life and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023 and now Sri Lanka.

Paṭisaṅkhā yoniso piṇḍapātaṃ paṭisevāmi, neva davāya,na madāya, na maṇḍanāya, na vibhūsanāya, yāvadeva imassa kāyassa ṭhitiyā, yāpanāya, vihiṃsūparatiyā, brahmacariyānuggahāya, iti purāṇañca vedanaṃ paṭihaṅkhāmi, navañca vedanaṃ na uppādessāmi, yātrā ca me bhavissati anavajjatā ca phāsuvihāro cā'ti
Wisely reflecting, I use almsfood: not for fun, not for pleasure, not for fattening, not for beautification, only for the maintenance and nourishment of this body, for keeping it healthy, for helping with the Holy Life; thinking thus, 'I will allay hunger without overeating, so that I may continue to live blamelessly and at ease.'

    I have a question, Bhante.
Is being so fearful of change that a person doesn't move on from a position, even if that position has become toxic, disrespectful and soul destroying, a kind of mental illness? Or is it a lack of faith or practice in the Buddha's teaching of impermanence? Thank you, Bhante.

Ahah, i was wondering what my practice was and why it was different. Now, it all makes sense. Yuttadhammo Bhikku is the first buddhist meditation video i watched and have been using this method almost exclusively.
Just fyi i read one of his meditation instruction manuals translated into english and sayadaw mentions that its acceptable to practice focusing on the point where the breath enters the body (the nose.)
His technique is extremely effective for me. I've tried mantras and chanting as well as some visualization and vipassana.
I figure i should just develop focus, so i am stuck there and haven't gone too much into anything else.
I want to develop this state of concentration first before i try the advancing to the next technique.
What comes after you develop one pointedness though?

    Dear Phra Dan,
I’m curious to know what your part time minimum wage job was? It can be quite difficult to find right livelihood.

If everyone became a monk, how will any monk get any food?

@totem4340 but thats the philosophy, that everyone should adopt it (not forcefully), but that is the belief. So what if hypothetically everyone does, then what will happen?

    • @Interspirituality
      @Interspirituality 2 месяца назад +2

No it’s not, it’s literally one of the first things he said, that everyone _shouldn’t_ become a monk, and that the monks depend on lay people for food …

Does medicine mask suffering, so if you make medicine for a living are you actually prolonging the suffering of others?

Venerable sir, you of course have no obligation to discuss anything uncomfortable, but have you ever or would you ever be willing to discuss the circumstances of the loss of your finger? I hope that this is not too intrusive.
I'm very pleased to hear you mention Yuttadhammo Bhikkhu, I was legitimately just wondering what you two might've thought of eachother and eachother's practices.
