Really grateful to you guys for doing this. Along with some other work i had done, i had my garage swap out the bulbs and they did it all wrong! I followed your video and rectified both the fitment and the bulb which they installed upside down! Thank you very much.
Great video!! Plan on hearing from the naysayers that say LED bulbs should not be used in a stock FJ housing. Been running LED's in my FJ for about two years with no problems or issues. I just had to adjust mine down a little to keep from blinding oncoming traffic.
Yup, there's a lot of them out there. Most of their negativity is fueled by hearsay and misinformation so we, for the most part, ignore them. Others simply like to complain. I'm certain we will have no issues with them. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I have a 2015 TRD Pro 4Runner (Inferno color) and just bought an 07 FJ Cruiser (Sun Fusion). Found your video while searching for a headlight upgrade for the FJ. Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos.
Just got these to replace stock headlights in my FJ. This video was super helpful! However, the headlights will not turn off with the engine running. Any ideas here? Any help would be great! Thanks
I just spent $50 on a pair of top-of-the-line headlight bulbs that *DON'T* blind oncoming traffic, but make more than enough light to be comfortable doing the speed limit on any back road. If I need more than that, I have dedicated off-road lights (and I see you do, too). Considering the insane price, the cost/benefit is just not there for this conversion. Still, great video, and I appreciate the FJ enthusiast tech.
Great video. Didn't you get any errors like a continous hyper turning signal or airbag warning light in the dashboard or missing high beam sign in the dashboard? I installed the Philips LEDs along with their error cancellation kit which fixed the high beam sign error and hyper flashing signals but I got a new problem of airbag error which went away upon removing the LEDs. Pls help
We've never heard of there ever being a problem with the conversion, nor a "kit" available to fix it. Maybe try it without the cancellation kit installed? If it makes a difference; ours is an '07 with the daytime driving lights disabled.
Do you have your daytime running light hooked up with these or did you disconnect them? I ordered these very same pair for my FJ but I’m not sure if I want them to run during the daytime as well. Love your channel. My wife also has a 2015 4Runner Trail edition and I ordered her the same HID light you put in your 4Runner. Keep them coming.
Is there a left and a right or both lights the same? I installed these as directed and now when I used the high beams the lights are LESS bright and not more bright. Like they get a little brighter on the sides of the road and down right in front of the FJ, but not brighter up ahead and farther down the road, whats the issue here? The high beam should be higher than the low beam correct?
We need a more real world comparison please. I upgraded mine in my 80 Land Cruiser and they work out pretty good. Got them on Amazon for under $40. How much are these? Link to purchase? some are super expensive
Yes there are cheaper versions out there but, be careful, you definitely get what you pay for. We'd rather pay a fair price for an excellent system then cheap out and get crap that under perform and fail. The Lumawerx set comes in around $160. hidkitpros.com/shop/2007-2014-toyota-fj-cruiser-lumawerx-bi-led-headlight-kit/
Thinks for this video Sir we do know if this headlight LED is good or not Evan you not show us in night because if this LED Perfect and more light on hope if you Tell us how can to buy it Thinks Again also I am not forget like your show
I just got this same kit. I've been running LEDs in the FJ for a few years now. The only complaint I have with LEDs was the lack of low wattage (dimmer) DRL. The DRL mode in LEDs was just normal Low Beam. In the description, it says these have a DRL mode. But when DRL mode is on, it's the same brightness as Low Beam. I thought someone had finally built an LED headlight with low wattage DRL, Low Beam and High Beam, but it's not this pair. I'm not an engineer but I have LEDs at home on a dimmer, why haven't they done it with automotive headlight LEDs?
We didn't even think about the DRL function. We pulled the plug on ours years ago because it made it awkward for spotting on the rocks. Great point you make! p.s. Just a reminder: Our t-shirt fundraiser for TreadLightly ends October 19th. Make a donation and get a cool Wanderlost t-shirt! Here's the link to our fundraising site. I noticed they’re 6000k. Do they have a bluish tint to them? I put some 5500k HID’s in our 4Runner and they were too blue. I ended up exchanging them for 4500k and they’re awesome. Now I want something for my Tacoma. I don’t know if the LED’s run “warmer” on the color spectrum than HID’s. I want more of a pure white.
We actually recently replaced our headlights with projector housings from Freedom Retrofits. We found that just replacing the stock bulbs with LEDs isn't a good idea.
I get a haircut four times a year, if I need one or not. LOL We hope to get out there in the next month or so, keep an eye on our Facebook page. We'll announce it there.
Wanderlost Overland Hi Mark and Merri! Thank you for giving me heads up! Will you be there Saturday or Sunday? I will plan on going on Saturday if it’s not too wet. The forecast calls for 50% chance of rain on Friday and 40% chance on Sat and Sun. I hope it won’t be too wet or muddy as I’m still running my stock Michelins that are almost worn out. Will you be bringing the FJ or the 4Runner, or both?
The links themselves are made of great quality hardened steel. It's the sliding collar portion that the pin goes through that's aluminum. When unpinned it hits the top and bottom of the rod causing some mushrooming. After all this time and miles the collars still are in good shape but, next time I have them off the FJ I'll look into replacing them with steel or bronze.
I'm not sure yet if they actually shine further. But the distance they do go is illuminated much brighter. hidkitpros.com/shop/2007-2014-toyota-fj-cruiser-lumawerx-bi-led-headlight-kit/
When you installed these LEDs did you have any light scattering or dark spots? I installed the same as you and I have some light scatter and when I put in my high beams I have a dark circle right in the middle of the pattern. I also got flipped off when a car passed me and got back in front of me. I angled them down and that when I started seeing the scatter and the dark spot.
Led dont shoot as far down and the regular bulbs, plus led is really bad in the rain. I live in MN unfortunately and the regular bulbs creates heat to help melt the snow and ice.
oh stop...as a lighting engineer for Hella, installing a HID/LED bulb into a headlight housing engineered/designed for a conventional halogen bulb is worthless....your light pattern is completely random and unsafe

Thanks! Yes, we think it looks pretty cool too. We were never big fans of the silver/gray trim. We painted it ourselves.

Great info! Glad these doesn't require rubber boot cutting and retain good seal to light housing

Very good idea that really it was very difficult for me to reinstall the rubber boot...Thanks

What did you do with the spring clamp in the second method? It sounds like the only the keeping the light secure is the friction of the rubber cap.

It'll do both.
