Some ideas that popped into my brain as I watched... . - When using the cling wrap, fold it into strips, and lay them in a herringbone pattern. Then go for a single layer of "messy, crumpled" wrap to break up the pattern. - When applying the tape, crease every strip, and lay them out as you were doing near the end, as if it were a dress. This, and the above step, will give the final result a lot more structural integrity. You could also get some thin modeling wire and use it sparingly in areas that will need extra strength. Should be invisible for the most part. That way you can use less wrap and less tape overall, and get an even more transparent look. - Try spraying it with a non-solvent lubricant. Something light and thin, and reasonably slick. Should make it require fewer cuts to get it off of the form. - Take some glow-in-the-dark bits of whatever, and put them in the "eyes". They'll soak up UV during the day, and glow for a few hours after sundown. - See if you can lightly spray it with a blue-green transparent coloring of some kind. Will make it look more ethereal. - Paint the stand a slightly darker than light gray. Not quite a medium gray. Too light, and it'll stand out at night...too dark and it'll stand out during the day. But the right shade of gray in the build will cause the eye to ignore it compared to everything else. - Shred the plastic strips at the ends (about halfway up in most cases) thoroughly, so they look like they're tattered remains. - Attach a little "shelf" to the stand, at about waist level, so you can reach up inside and place a small bowl/cup of water with a chunk of dry ice in it. Do it just after sunset, and there should be a thin little cloud trailing out underneath the "ghost" for a few hours. Might have to cover it, and put some kind of short transparent hose hanging down to make sure it doesn't dissipate too quickly before reaching the ground.
To better hide the support, randomly spray the poles with two different tones of grey (i.e. camouflage) so the linear shape of the poles is less obvious.
I make 5-10 of these to add to my yard every year. They are pretty quick and easy to do, provided you have a mannequin. I use painters drop cloth for the clothes because its really cheap and just a little more transparent, but instead of cutting it, I tear it into the shapes I want and it gives a real aged, ragged look as the clothes are blowing in the wind
@@ImNotBoredImCreative What's the best way to cut the packing tape off an object? I taped a styrofoam ball the other day using the method shown in the video -- maybe 4-5 layers and it was such a PITA trying to get the tape off -- and I did damage the foam a bit cutting into it trying to get the tape off. Also, when you are taping up something, how do you know how many layers of tape are on it? I lost track lol.
I saw somewhere a person made "ghosts" form chicken wire wrapped forms to create the shape, then spray painted with glow in the dark paint for dramatic effect at night.
I cam here from a chicken wire ghost on the Wicked Makers channel. They were inspired by someone else doing it. It's a great idea, time consuming like everything but with the added bonus of being pricked with wire.
Awesome. She’ll be a great display for years to come. I did something similar, but used my own arms and torso…and my arms were skin to tape. What you did was smart. What I did was dangerous. I’d never do it that way again. Fortunately, I got out unscathed and now have a beautiful display and I’ve had her about 5 years.
Ah Monster Tutorials published a similar video tutorial 5yrs ago using white bin bags and packing tape. Very interesting to see the different techniques to his and I like how you have displayed her. Thank you for sharing.
She turned out great, really spooky lookin. What about some white lights wrapped around the pole to make her illuminate in the dark. I bet it would make it great, maybe a switch or something to wait till someone walked by and then bam, light it up.
Not 100% sure this would work, but thinking a coat of decoupage over the tape might help harden her up a bit. It should dry clear or a little milky, but think that would add to the ghostly effect... could be worth giving it a try, it may cut down on the number of tape layers as well.
Great idea. I'm a Halloween lover. I decorate my yard every year to show the kids in the neighbor hood all my scary creatures. I changed it up each year and always add something new. Your ghost lady is a good idea for this year.
Ok possibly a really dumb idea but would an inflatable “adult” doll work as a form and then just deflate at the end and pull out of an incision in the middle back or groin or something rather than all the careful cutting and retaping of the seams?
Thinking layering some plastic wrap or cellophane first, the tape would stick to the doll. Shoot, why not just wrap the blow up & do goulish things to it. I think that'd work to. Just have to find a way to anchor it or even hang from a limb.
Would explain the "wooo" noise though if ya really think about it. Hell, just shred up some painters drop cloth and some spray adhesive, and BAM! Surprised Specter hangin in the garden all up in the beans! Considering one hand/fist that is already designed to hold an ear of corn, you could get another one and do it up like a Surprised Scarecrow with a pitchfork! Whoa,... I think we has us a movie. "The Surprise That's In The Corn", would be the sequel to Children of the Corn when they reached middle aged
Lining up the seams would be easier if they weren't straight lines. Doing a zig-zag pattern would give you registration points. How did that hold up in the sun? Did it survive the season?
Awesome , it looks so good ! When you first started wrapping her I was like "Hmmm .. Where is this going ?" But it sure came together perfectly ! That's the beauty of art & the artist , nobody else can see the image you've imagined in your head - until you've finished creating it !! Absolutely amazing !
Ha, maybe too early to mention, unless someone would want to get a head start on making something for Dec, but this could probably work as an "ice sculpture" for winter/Christmas time, too. You could use any hard plastic decoration as a form to make the clear plastic copies from, or if you don't have that or a mannequin, you could use chicken wire to form your own shape. Snowmen, candy canes, nutcrackers, or whatever. Eh, could even paint the inside with translucent colours and/or put lights inside for different looks.
Pretty good tutorial. I use human/a seamstress stand, or another mannequin to create more body forms. I've always wanted to try the ghost/plastic figures. Thanks for sharing.
This is really cool! I feel like it still needs some hands. You could use some clear disposable gloves blown up slightly and tied like a balloon for the basic form, then shape it a little as you attach the tape. When I saw the black stand I thought it would look really neat if you attached a clump of balled up red cellophane for a heart.
I was looking for Halloween ideas and so happy this showed up. So pretty and a great tutorial! Since the stand shows most of the day I am thinking to make it white and in a skeleton shape. Nothing too complicated but should be convincing enough, like it's her skeleton showing through. I have mannequins but if anyone else is watching, you can use a friend for it too. Just don't cover their mouth :D
Brings back memories. In my teens I worked on construction sites and found tons of partial rolls of masking tape. It hit me one night I could make a mold of myself with all of this tape that I found. Ended up making a complete replica and stuff it with newspaper. My ex in-laws probably still have it in their basement as a deterrent to thieves!
I would love this in my yard. It might last a night. People steal Halloween decorations where I live. I gasped when I saw how close to the street she is! Lol
@@katguyot6351 Right! Not even cameras stop the mess. It’s such a different world. As a kid Halloween was the best time. I don’t remember stealing being such a problem.
So true! We had people steal my mother's Halloween and Christmas decorations. We live in sad times! Hey what about putting the special decorations on top of our houses?
Yeah, in some places you can not have anything nice. One neighboring town (thank goodness it is across a river and the culprits do not have vehicles and do not drive), it is really bad. I was talking to a man that ran a lawn service. They have to build cages over their flatbed trailer, that houses the equipment, and the cage has to stay locked at all times, even when they are at an address working. In one area it is so bad, he said he was weed eating, and set down the weed eater to remove some trash in the yard. A thug, literally ran into the yard, grabbed the weed eater as he ran through, and kept going -- passed so close to the gardener he 'felt' him as he went by. That blew my mind. He said they also have to build cages over HVAC units at houses. The thugs rip the copper components right out of them. This is what happens when drugs prevail (I say this because most of the culprits are drug addicts stealing for drug money) and the law becomes so lax it become ineffective. I say this because a lot of the 'judges' in that county are, literally, drug addicts that get the drug community to vote them into office and then they throw the drug cases out of court or release the criminals with a warning. It is that corrupt now. So, no nice yard decorations for the decent people in that city. Nothing in the yard, period. They even have a problem with people going right into their yard and ripping plants out of the ground. If they like the plant and want it they take it then go plant it in their own yard, or their parents yard. It is insane.
I am so happy I found you. Your Ghost is Incredible! I Love Her Son Much! I can't imagine minding my own buisness while driving by your house one night and seeing her. Just an incredible Vision! You are definently an artist and I can't wait to watch more! TFS! Your new sub being entertained in Oklahoma, Barb. MASTERPIECE!
In the future, you could potentially get a fake skull/skeleton to put inside the plastic, too. That way, you could paint the skeleton for different effects, and to hide any pvc supports.
i was just gonna say, although ghosts and apparitions don't have skeletons, leaving the pvc pipe white and adding some rib portions might have looked good.
That’s a nice idea. I might do that to my Chickewire Ghost. But for the Packingtape Ghost, I have an update video on my channel where I put blue LED lights inside to make her glow.
I bet you could! You can try it on just an arm (your own arm). Wrap it with plastic wrap completely and then just tape over it. A careful cut all the way down one side with scissors to free your arm, then tape the ghost arm back together! It’s creepy and cool and can be used in all kinds of decorations!
You should paint that PVC a flat grey or white, then get one of those strings of battery powered fairy lights and weave it around the pole to turn on at night. Would look amazing with lights inside that.
you could have done the same thing to the pipe as you did to the manikin by wrapping it in wrap and tape to hold her up or use very durable wire. i would have also added some gleaming eerie lights but it still looked great.
Looks good, but how waterproof is it? Around here, it typically rains around Halloween and my experience has been that water will completely dissolve the glue used on packing tape. If it's stuck down good, with no gaps so that the water can't get behind it, it holds up fairly well, but once the water gets to the glue, it just starts falling off.
You are probably right. We don’t get rain here until after Halloween, but for people who do, it might be a problem if it gets too wet. I guess you could minimize the destruction by really pressing the tape down to try to seal it all down. To be honest, I’m not sure how well she will store in my hot attic space over the summer. She may be a one Halloween ghost.
It is storm season here too. It’s a problem with my yard display, since most of my hand made stuff is not waterproof. I’d like a solution, but the only thing I can do is either put the vulnerable stuff under shelter as part of the display, or bring it in during the rain. I often wonder what people do who have month long displays. Mine only goes for one night. Does anyone have any good ideas to help waterproof cardboard tombstones?
@@pumpkinhead8633 I'm still looking for a good option for painting Styrofoam. Most all of the paint that's safe to use on it, isn't waterproof and most of the paints that are waterproof will eat the Styrofoam. Apparently latex wall paint is safe and waterproof, but I don't need a gallon of it. I just want to touch up a few decorations I have that have nicks and chips in them. Craft paint is perfect for this purpose, but it's not waterproof.
@@lurkerrekrul Hi Luke, I use acrylic paint. I would guess that it is at least water resistant, but I can't say for sure, because I have never left any of my props in the rain. Too much work goes into making them to take the risk of losing them. Although, I am pretty confident that acrylic painted Styrofoam would be OK at least in a light sprinkle. I'm not confident at all with painted cardboard, just in case there is some seepage. What I can say with confidence is that the acrylic paints that you find in tubes for artists has not harmed any of the Styrofoam props that I have painted onto; and the paint has continued to last for years. How long do you leave your display out?
@@pumpkinhead8633 For what it's worth, I have some acrylic paint that was given to me. I painted some on a scrap piece of Styrofoam and then held it under lightly running water after it was dry and it didn't wash off. However the same can't be said for a plastic cap that I tried it on. The paint seemed to adhere fine, but even a light sprinkle of water ruined the paint. It didn't run, it came off like a skin. After being under the sprinkle of water for just a few seconds, it started to sag, and then I was able to slide the entire patch of paint off like a piece of Saran Wrap. I tested it on plastic, because I have some plastic jack-o-lanterns that are kind of faded and I was hoping to repaint them. I know I could use other types of paint, but I have a couple large bottles of orange acrylic, so I thought "Hey, maybe I can use this." To be honest I don't usually leave my decorations up more than a night or two. I'm always kind of paranoid that someone will steal them, or mess with them. I'm not aware of that kind of thing happening in this area, but there's always a first time. Actually, with the exception of a life-sized plastic skeleton I got on sale for $30 at Walgreens a few years ago, and some decently painted plaster skulls (also on sale at Walgrreens after Halloween), most of my Hallowen decorations came from the trash. I have a life-sized animatronic skeletal pirate that was slightly broken and missing the power supply and head, so I adapted a light & sounds plastic skull that I also found in the trash. Sadly, while it still lights up and shakes, the sound chip no longer seems to work (it's not a loose wire, I checked). I have a bunch of cheap plastic skulls and some assorted bones, and a bunch of Styrofoam tombstones. One was broken in two. The crack actually adds to it in my opinion, but the exposed white Styrofoam looks bad. Oh, I also have a head on a stake that only cost $10 at a local store several years ago. Apparently it was made by Don Post Studios and usually sells for much more.
Now imagine if it was hung from three points using fishing line, so it floats above the ground, and sways slightly in the wind. Set up a low power and wattage spot light under her, and have the detector facing the street, so as people walk by she becomes illuminated.
Imagine leaving this on the end of a bend of a road slightly in the trees 😂 soon as they turn and the lights hit that shit people would poop their pants
It’s easiest with a mannequin or dress form, but I have seen people do this a piece at a time on their own body. The wrap their arm with plastic wrap then tape over it and carefully cut it free. After doing each body part, you just tape them all together. You have to be careful though (especially on the head) and be safe.
really creative but yeah, you should have left the stand/pipe white. it would be less noticeable. another idea might be a bolt with a wide washer inside (maybe painted white as well) out the top of the head to hang it from a tree or the eaves of the house.

.
- When using the cling wrap, fold it into strips, and lay them in a herringbone pattern. Then go for a single layer of "messy, crumpled" wrap to break up the pattern.
- When applying the tape, crease every strip, and lay them out as you were doing near the end, as if it were a dress.
I know I could use other types of paint, but I have a couple large bottles of orange acrylic, so I thought "Hey, maybe I can use this."
To be honest I don't usually leave my decorations up more than a night or two.
Love this, Sally is enchanting.
Neat! Could you have used pool noodles to make the arms? You could have used a blow up doll for the form, lol.
Now imagine if it was hung from three points using fishing line, so it floats above the ground, and sways slightly in the wind. Set up a low power and wattage spot light under her, and have the detector facing the street, so as people walk by she becomes illuminated.
Looks like a fun project for our family
Amazing from a few feet back! You should put her on a track and have her rush people coming to the door! LOL
Came for the DIY, stayed for the Pumpkin Cat
Super cool! Now this is the kind of ghost I like!
Really cool idea.
Absolutely gorgeous and very creative! You should work for Hollywood in the creative prop studios.
Those aren't scissors, These are scissors.
I wish you lived next door, I would have you make me one. Great job love it.
Now all I need is a mannequin
A little tip, you can always tape the arms later to the finished model n.n, makes it easier :D
I'm going to do this for Halloween this year, thanks!
That’s so cool! Love Halloween stuff!🎃💀👻
using pool noodles for her arms would be a good cheap alternative
You’re truly creative ♥️
Awesome idea. Definitely requires more patience than I have but maybe something I can do eventually.
Oh adorable kitty and jackolantetn!
Imagine leaving this on the end of a bend of a road slightly in the trees 😂 soon as they turn and the lights hit that shit people would poop their pants
cool I'm trying this for sure next month
Awesome! Have fun with it and I hope it turns out great!
Any suggestions on how to do this without a mannequin? Or do I need to find a mannequin/dress form etc in order to try this?
It’s easiest with a mannequin or dress form, but I have seen people do this a piece at a time on their own body. The wrap their arm with plastic wrap then tape over it and carefully cut it free. After doing each body part, you just tape them all together. You have to be careful though (especially on the head) and be safe.
fantastic man. looks great
Thanks!
Just fantastic!
Should have up lit it right in the center so the body would have glowed and the taped would have disappeared. Great idea!
That’s a great idea! I actually added light to it. You can see that in my update video.
Love this idea
really creative but yeah, you should have left the stand/pipe white. it would be less noticeable. another idea might be a bolt with a wide washer inside (maybe painted white as well) out the top of the head to hang it from a tree or the eaves of the house.
Those are some serious ✂️
That is really cool. Happy Halloween 2021
So methodical. Nice work!
Thanks!
People buy things like this for $100 or more this is a great diy
