I think you refer to an older version of the rules when sacrifice removed a warrior from the board. In the current rules, sacrificing just puts a warrior from your supply into your acolytes, so there is really no downside in doing that, since you don't have any other use for your bird cards anyway.
A really great use for Bird Cards as Lizards is called Dominance Swapping. Blew my mind when I heard it. Basically once there's a dominance card available, you can discard a matching card to claim said Dominance card. Birds are still wild for this purpose so you could ditch a wild bird card and claim the mouse dominance for example and then use that mouse dominance for its suit to score, build, whatever. Alternatively you can use this trick to have slightly more sway over the lost souls. If you were going to score with Rabbits and you want Rabbits to be outcast next turn, simply discard 1 Rabbit card to take Rabbit Dominance and score with the Dominance card instead. Now you've sent 2 Rabbits to Lost Souls instead of 1 and potentially denied another player the Dominance card they'd have used to win. Dominance cards will stay in the lost souls where nobody has access to them until your next turn and you can simply do the same trick again and again to keep the dominance cards out of the hands of anybody else indefinitely.

Just reading these guys, they seemed like they would be very good at yhe ulternate win conditions to me. Get to 10 points. If you did it by having a hand full of a single suit, get that suit condition. They have to attack you in that suit, which will prompt discards in that suit, which let you do extra with acolytes in that suit. Then repeat until you control 3 for a whole round. If you did it with mixing suits, focus on the corners. Get the opposite corner condition, they have to attack you which makes acolytes to use to take them again. Discards will be random, but then you only need to continue until you control 2 clearings at the start of your round. But this was just an idea. Does it seem more reliable than getting 30 points?
I’ve found great success in trying to manipulate the Outcast. There is a lot of power in their conspiracies. For example, they can ONLY move with Conspiracies. But more importantly, their Convert and Sanctify is based on it. Lizards often try to use these powers to target key parts of their opponents territory. Figure out what they want to nuke, then try and discard/craft cards to change the Outcast to a suit that doesn’t match the clearing that’s important to you. Even just changing the clearing from Hated to just Outcast, can neuter the power of their Birdsong
Trying to get good with them but I've had some runs where I just feel blocked. Most particularily, I've had runs where I'm perpetually starved for acolytes. Other players ignore me and the deck refuses to cough up any bird cards. What can you do to counter this and remain in the game?

Strategy for defeating lizards would be helpful. Other than “ignore them” I’ve really no idea.
As the Lizard player, I hate when people take out my Gardens prematurely. So I'm thinking a targeted strike on Gardens would be my first go to.

Starved for accolytes really isn't a bad thing! Just get your 2+2+2 gardens and go crazy on scoring
