Oh and I had my boyfriend finally ask me to start him a little compost pot inside one of his totes. We recycled a plastic coffee container. He even went into the barrel composter to find regular earthworms to put in it. Hahaha I made a believer of him, Robbie. I'm tickled 😆🤣😂

Robby .... And Viewers ... If you have ranchers (cattle) where you live - ask them if they have used, big round molasses mineral tubs (they don't need - some welcome you coming and getting rid of them) ... they are much thicker and heavy duty but light enough to lift. Also .. I've taken used Water Barrels (blue or white) and cut those in half and those are EVEN BETTER and THICKER than the mineral tubs!!! They last forever! I cut them in half and then cut a hand hole out on either side so you can lift them as they don't have a good way to carry them, but they are a little heavier. I just got 20 mineral tubs for free from a rancher locally and 20 from a rancher 4 hours away .. for $5 each ... THAT'S CHEAPER THAN THE TOTES!!! :D

On a lot of the stuff at Walmart if you spend the 25 or $35 you get free shipping and at the upper right on the page click on where it says best match and go for the lower price so you don't have to scroll through all those pages to finally get to where you want to be to see the lower prices

I've noticed this happening for over a year now. I assumed it was because stores were trying to get people back into the brick and mortar buildings so we do impulse buying. I live in a small town that has terrible shopping so I've been ordering online for years. I've also noticed they say they are out of stock on an item via the app but if you go into the store that same day, you find what you need. That makes me want to scream...😮

You just have to spend $35.00 or more. I have never paid for shipping as long as my order has been at least $35.00. Thank you again for all of the great information you always share with us!

And there are ways of getting 'free' plastic containers if you live in the right places. They're not so big as the ones Robbie has there, admittedly, but I use them all the time, and all it took was a bit of searching around.
If you live fairly close to a beach, plastic drums and crates often get washed ashore. I don't touch the ones that are still sealed and are full of mysterious liquids obviously.
But, generally speaking, when these things are thrown off or washed overboard a fishing boat or wherever they come from, they don't have their caps affixed and have been thoroughly sea-washed.
A little work to cut off the top of the drum and make some holes somewhere in the base, and that's a free planter. I have about a dozen of these (white and clear containers tend not to last too long, but black, green and blue ones I've had for 10 years and they look like they can last another 10 at least).
I'm also surrounded by farmland, mainly animal farming, and that's a great place to find free containers.
Farmers put out buckets of feed like molasses during the Spring months, and then they often leave them in the corner of fields where get stepped on or blow about, or they get thrown into ditches on the other side of the fence.
In fact, it is amazing just how many treasures I have found in ditches alongside farm fields, especially offcuts of fencing reels. These just get left to rust, but I have rescued a few offcuts and have made arches for peas and beans out of them.

I can get them very cheap at a thrift store near me. They seldom have the lids but that’s ok. One day there was one with a crack in the bottom corner so the guy gave it to me free! I got one for 50cents and Taxes 2000 was painted on the side. It’s fun shopping there. I got a couple 30 gal trash cans too. Trust me. I bought several at Walmart before I found the thrift store. The trash cans were $16 I think at Walmart. The totes were about $7. But I’ve made up for it at the thrift store. 😃

Wish I could do that. My raised beds have been invaded by neighbor’s old trees’ air roots. They destroyed my corps last year seeing my hardy tomato plants dying one by one 😢 My chair garden is okay.
After this weekend’s storm (the 5th one hitting our state since last Dec), I will start elevating all my raised beds. I am thinking of wicking raised beds as well so that very little water will sip into the ground where air roots are hiding under wood chips.

thnx for sharing. I am currently setting up my new garden area I have been covering an area up with cardboard and dumping my kitchen scraps and coffee grounds since last year, a few days ago I got some help, and we again covered that area with more cardboard to make sure the grass was smothered then covered that with woodchips. We put my double cattle panel hoop house over the center of the chips and have tubs and a couple chairs with tubs to line against the panels. I bought some black kow compost, and loaded up some dead wood from fallen limbs and tore up wet cardboard in small pieces for the bottom of the tubs then filled them halfway with the compost. I'm looking forward to planting when it gets warm enough. I can't wait to get some spandex to give some pops of color and design to the area.
