We really just have one goal - to make your food life better. Ok that, and be entertained at the same time. And have you learn a few things along the way. So let’s make it 3 goals then.
If you only want the steps to make something, like those vids shot from above with no people, no conversation no nuthin - then we are absolutely not for you. But if you wanna a little fun while you learn, then this is the place.
Cooking doesn’t have to be hard, it just has to be delicious.

THANK YOU ❗️ Развлечения
🔴BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO GET MY NEW KNIFE! 🔪🔪🔪
PRE-ORDER HERE ➡️ bit.ly/sams-knife
so it wasn't in the description lol, because I just spent 5min looking!
You broke our trust
After all that in the video the link actually isn't in the description, it is in the comment section. Someone owes someone an apology. Oh and knife ordered, can't wait to use it.
I just ordered 3 knives. One for me and one for each of my sons. 🔪🔪🔪.
Is the knife a Nakiri or Kiritsuke? Says Nakiri, looks like Kiritsuke. Shepherd's pie isn't cottage pie...and this is not a Nakiri style knife.
Cooking instructions.
I typed this out so I could make this. Please forgive any mistakes; just thought it might be helpful.
Filling
- Chopped up cooked bacon (cook and let rest reserving some fat)
- (2) Carrots finely chopped.
- ½ a yellow onion finely chopped.
- 2 cloves of garlic.
- 1lb? of ground lamb. (you can use ground beef instead)
- 2 tablespoons of flour.
- Salt & pepper.
- ½ cup of red wine.
- ½ cup of beef broth.
- Few dashes of Worcestershire sauce.
- Squirt of tomato paste.
- Pinch of Thyme.
- Pinch of Rosemary.
- 1 giant handful of spinach leaves
.
Mash potatoes
- Yukon Gold potatoes evenly sliced. 4 to 5 large?
- ¼ cup of butter.
- ¾ cup of whipping cream.
- Salt & pepper.
- Large dash of smoked paprika.
- 5 to 6 cloves of roasted garlic (roasted in oven approximately 30 minutes).
- Parmesan cheese. Finely grated.
Filling
- Pour most of the bacon fat into a small bowl for later reserving some in the pan.
- Cook onions and carrots on pan for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
- Add a couple of cloves of garlic (pressed through a garlic press) with a little bit of oil added.
- After 2 minutes add the ground lamb and cook (pink is gone) stirring to mix with the onions, carrots and garlic.
- Add flour and mix it through.
- Add red wine and beef broth and stir for a few minutes. Add Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, salt & pepper, Thyme, Rosemary and mix.
- Add spinach. Stir and cook until wilted down and absorbed in.
- Keep simmering until thickened.
- Remove from heat and add mashed potatoes with the bacon and smooth over the top making sure to cover all the filling.
Mash Potatoes
- Boil potatoes until tender.
- Melt butter in a separate pan with whipping cream.
- Mash potatoes (or if you’re a fancy pants put them through a potato ricer) in a separate pot.
- Slowly add the melted butter/whipped cream mixture in stages stirring constantly.
- Add some salt and pepper.
- Add paprika, roasted garlic (without the paper).
- Mix/mash well.
- Add some Parmesan cheese and mix.
Cooking:
Bake in a 400 F oven 30 to 40 minutes it is golden brown on top. Sam did 30 minutes in the oven with 5 minutes under the broiler.

Duuuuude nicely done.
Ground beef makes it into a Cottage pie, not a Shepherds pie.
@@callumsterland2695 You are right. But you can use it instead, just makes it cottage pie.
Thank you!!
I feel like someone is taping a gardening show next door and they're tired of the loud cooking guy.
might be the funniest thing I've read today
😂😂😂😂
" wow i china can hear that guys bacon pop 🙄"
Somewhere on their gardening channel, "There's our crazy neighbor again screaming at our dog and leaf blowers."
A shepherd's pie is with lamb funnily enough, what you've made is a cottage 🥧 😉
Hi Sam, my Hubby and I just discovered you this week. I made your Shepherds Pie today for ourselves and 2 Seniors in our condo who, like us, cannot be with family for Easter. I had to tell you that I will no longer make Shepherds Pie any other way but your way for the rest of my life! The flavors were amazing! Hubby likes to rate all new recipes by stars and this is 5 STARS! Happy Easter 2020
@Planet CEO Oh c’mon. A little flamboyancy goes over well these days. 😂
@Planet CEO he does not act "gay"! You stop acting "like an ass"!
Made this the other night. Seriously, it was the best Shepherd's pie I have ever made, ever. This recipe seriously rocks. Love your channel!
When I use ground bison, I call it Little House on the Prairie Pie.
🤣🤣🤣
rob wishart lol
And when I use ground Gator tail I call it swamp pie
@@dgdigital2659 that's what I call my ass crack in summer when it's hot and humid
When you use ground Bison for a Shepherd's Pie, you become a Pie-oneer
Sam - "And now to add the thing that makes this a true shepherd's pie..."
Me - Ground shepherds
The only way I make it.
@@travis3236 theres another way?!😲
Absolutely no other way
wow. i was reading your comment as he was saying it.
Nobody wants to point out the ground sheep is what you're looking for here? I mean not to knock cottage pie cuz that's real good, but...
I made this for my family this past weekend. Turned out awesome. I’m not a “Cottage Pie” person, but Shepherd’s Pie? More please! Even my picky oldest daughter loved it!
Where can I find the full recipe??
Irish guy here, this is an awesome recipe and I've got no problem with the spinach addition! Doesn't impact the deep delicious flavors in the slightest yet adds much needed nutrients. You're awesome brother! Keep it up.
Hey Sam, how about some meal prep for say a whole week? I love to cook but have trouble making things that I can cook and are still amazing after being microwaved at work, love the show!!
i feel like after four days, you can tell the food isn't fresh anymore. still edible but not the best.
you should microwave fish at work for lunch, im sure your colleagues would appreciate it.
Marko Grobler that’s just pure evil xD
The move is you do large batches of things that freeze well. You dont keep things in the fridge all week they dont stay tasty.
Mike C Bolognese, Mac n Cheese Pasta bake, steak stir fry, literally anything you want to cook that can be transferred between two slices of ciabatta, make dishes that use rice as a side and you can use absolutely any leftovers you have to make fried rice, all good eats
Sam and Max, thank you for creating the best cooking show ever. Thanks to you I have so many new things to try! Keep up the good work!
Hey, I'm eating this right now and I followed the recipe almost exactly (I didn't have any rosemary AND I used venison from a deer I harvested recently. I'm calling mine, "Hunter's Pie"). It is fantastic! Good call on the bacon, good call on the spinach. I've been following your recipes for a few months now after watching your tuna melt sandwich video and the simplicity and personability you bring make cooking fun for me. Thanks much Sam and Team.
I know it's an old comment I'm responding to, but this is a perfect use for ground or cubed deer meat. There actually is a hunter's pie but it uses a pie crust, well that's the version I'm used to anyway.
@@bensebaugh6017 like a pot pie with venison. Awesome
I just made this for my family for Christmas Eve dinner. SO, SO GOOD. Thanks, Sam the Cooking Guy!
I'm British and this looks like the best shepherds pie I have ever seen.
ascrowslaydying who.... cares 🙃
@@notoriousj7041 prick
Gotta say the opposite,
Doesn't even resemble a pie lmao,.
@@eillswim clearly you havent heard or seen both versions Sam mentions. Besides the little modifications here and there, this is basically the Shepherd's version in a nutshell. I bet you dont even realize pizzas are called pies.....
😮🧐😬
Shepherd's pie is one of the things I deployed in pursuing my now wife. Braised lamb shoulder and (very) wide homemade pasta helped seal the deal. Lamb all the way!
Sam dragging the sharp edge of the knife across the board broke my heart. Every. Time.
omg same i have been cussed out for doing that on the line when i was a noob
Yes, and chopping on stone . . .
He didn't chop on a board, chopped on a steel cooking surface. Always use the back of the knife to drag your ingredients. It's okay to use the blade to scoop up your ingredients. But OMG if you use those techniques of Sam you'll have to sharpen you knives allot more often.
As an Englishman, I look forward to seeing more of your remixes of our traditional food. Interesting ideas
Same.
Love this guy, straight face but funny as hell, and I love shepherd's pie will have to try this one for sure..
I made this for my husband and it was amazing! The only change we made was adding cheddar cheese on top of it all. Thanks Sam for this delicious addition to our recipe box.
A couple of suggestions from the UK. Add a couple of Bay Leaves. Use less cream to make the mash a bit stiffer, then rake it out with a fork to make lots of ridges, you will end up with lot more crispy bits of potatoe topping deliciousness.
My husband loves it when I make Shepard’s pie. I love adding spinach in where I can. Great source of iron. Looks great but I’d still have to add the peas for hubby. Not a problem. That’s cooking. Thanks for another great video. Looking forward to getting your knife. Knife work is one of the most enjoyable parts of cooking for me.
I was expecting frozen peas too.
Watched this in the morning and went straight to Tesco’s and made it. Banging.
I’m making this exact recipe for the 4th time this year right now, I follow the video every time to a T & Thank you Sam every one loves it every time 😁
My fiancée and I just discovered your channel over Thanksgiving when we were separated and he unfortunately got the flu. Since then we’ve been binge watching like there’s no tomorrow. We tried this recipe and we were floored. I had never made anything with lamb before. We made a few alterations because my partner has Celiac’s and we both are lactose intolerant. Even so, this was texture and flavor wise one of my new favorite dishes we’ve ever made. Over Christmas break we made this shepard’s pie and my dad was so impressed. We can’t get enough of your channel. So refreshing and always delicious. (We also used my dad’s instapot to make your beef bourguignon. He sent me pics each time he ate on the leftovers) Big thank you. Your meals have reinvigorated our weekday eats. Also, I just can’t imagine a better way to make a living. Can’t wait to keep watching.
Love your channel, your vibe, and your ideas Sam ! I'll be making this soon.
This recipe looks awesome as usual and I will try it . But gotta say I have never seen a potato press before. So much to learn and so little time . Luv ya Sam you make my day !!!
That is one of my favorite foods. Yours looked amazing! I've made it at home before and it came out really good, but yours is over the top. Keep up the awesome work
Made this today for our father's day lunch. This was soooooo good! Great recipe. Thanks Sam!
I saw Shepherd’s Pie. I immediately liked the video. Happy Valentine’s Day Sam & Max. That is all. ❤️❤️❤️
I loved loved loved loved this recipe! Thank you! ❤️
Wow, watched this a little late! But wow I’m so happy I did! Made this tonight and it’s fabulous! Thank you Sam. I’m starting to love to cook again, 👍
We've cooked a lot of your recipes, they are all good.
Love your videos, thank you for making cooking fun, enticing and doable.
Wow! Made this for St.Paddy’s a few days ago! Amazing! Really loved the roasted garlic touch! Omg! And of course the BACON! I made a mistake! I didn’t put enough BACON! I think the only other thing I want in there is peas! Will be making this again soon and will do spinach and peas! Thanks so much!
I mean, I love your enthusiasm but maybe not end every sentence with an exclamation point XD Sorry i just a little triggered there, carry on!
Nobody:
Sam: “A little bit of paprika” * dumps half the jar *
you know how Sam rolls by this point, surely?
Paprika doesn't much have much flavor anyway
IKR? Never used that much paprika in a single recipe in my life.
Orange Mashed...bad. MACA.
Just like Quang Tran
As a proud Canadian and us Canadians we do love our shepherds pie, this will be the only way to do it from now on! you are the best! I swear every recipes from you is always a hit at my house!!

Love you Sam The Cooking Guy, made this Shepherd's pie this evening and it came out perfectly.

LSSRoshi he missed his chance at a great mom joke though..
I just discovered your channel. I make Shepherds Pie a few times a year, and I'm always looking for a new way to spin it. This looks AMAZING! Definitely going to try this!
Sam, this looks amazing, however, just for a reaction, I thought I'd show it to my mum because she's a Yorkshire lass. Well, it got a reaction all right!!!! After she regained consciousness from hitting her head on the coffee table as she fell off of the sofa, she made me make a pot of Yorkshire tea to calm her down. The tremors eventually subsided, but she said she had a restless night with little sleep. I must confess that the recipe looked good to me, but is somewhat avant garde for the more traditional amongst us.
🤣😂🤪
This is the most 'Stoned' episode of STCC i've ever seen. Loved it.. thanks for the lesson guys. love from the UK
As an Englishman I love watching you have your take on our dishes. Glad people can see that our food isn't as bad as the stereotype 👍
OMG! Please Sam, if you ever need someone to come drool off camera while you are making these wonderful dishes, let me know and I will walk from NY to your house and wait impatiently for the meal to be done! Just can’t get enough of these great recipes! Thank you and many curtsies for all your insane cooking skills. Now I must go eat!
Great looking pizza! Thank you guys...I watch your videos everyday and try to make some of the food you make...i enjoy your antics! Lol keep up the great videos!
Finally someone in North America recognizes shepherd’s pie is made with lamb, here in Canada they sell shepherd’s pie made with beef, the clue is in the name shepherds have sheep and ranchers have cattle and it’s a cottage pie with beef. Really bothers me far more than it should!
@Selina Snowdon well said 100%👌🏻❤️
you're my RUclips dad.... you have been claimed 🤣...
Apparently I have ALOT of children 🤓

Sam, the number 1 thing I've learned since the beginning of the internet is simply this...the world is full of trolls. We watch your videos because you DO think outside the box. Keep it up and don't change a thing. That Shepherd's pie looks delicious. 👍

@@samthecookingguy I grew up in the UK eating my mum's shepherd and cottage pies. I went on to make my own for my own family, using all but one of the ingredients you show at different times and in different ways. (I don't think i've ever made either in the same way twice in a row) I have never thoght of including spinach before, but next time I make either of those pies I'm doing what you did! Is it a shepherds pie? Hell yes. Plus I appreciate that you called out the difference between shep and cottage, but people from the UK don't always call them the correct name on a regualr basis, so I don't see why people get all twisted up about it. Tasty food is tasty food, even if you got the name wrong. Chill out and enjoy your eats people! Thank you Sam, you've given me a new recipe idea.
I've been putting fresh or frozen spinach in my cottage/shepard pie for many, many, and many more years. I pile in all sorts of veggies depending on what I have got in the fridge. So good on you for doing it :D And the camera assistant is very cute by the way :P
Why is there no Sam the Cooking Guy in my neighborhood that I can hang out with and taste all the amazing food he cooks?! Thanks Sam for providing me with the recipes to drool over! Being a divorced male who was brought up never cooking, you actually provide me with a way to feed myself good food!
Shepherds Pie is one of my favorite foods, and this looks amazing!!
If it's pie and it's meat, it's for me.
"Not underly wibbly". Perfection sir.
This was awesome! Added into our meal rotation.
I’m Entertained 😂 love the knife, the grill area and the thing he is using for a cutting board
Looks good, I'd switch the Wine for a Dark Ale myself though.
Yeah! A nice dark ale. Great idea!
I've found that "No Sugar Added" Cranberry Juice makes a good replacement for red wine as well.

I just love watching this show…..except it always makes me so freakin’ hungry!! Thank you Sam…..geez…thank you all!
look how sharp it cuts.

I'm glad i as the only one to notice that
Lol
I hate that he uses the knife on a metal surface
I've never been one to want to eat Shepherd's pie, but after this recipe... I might just have to make it and try it 😎
Liz Dykstra not want shepherds pie? This does not compute to an Ulsterman.
OMG!! the spinach part is my favourite!! I get the best laughs from your chanel.. keep up the great work 👍 🤣
I’m 47 and have never had Shepard’s Pie. I cannot wait to make this. It looks delicious. Thank you for another great recipe and the laughs.
I do mine pretty different. I used pearl onions, crimini mushrooms and larger chunks of carrot and celery. then I mix a healthy amount of gruyere cheese in with the potatoes. and in my other comment I mentioned that cabbage would probably be a good addition as well and I want to try that sometime. The cheese makes a huge difference though when you put in your spatula to take out a chunk and it looks like a deep dish pizza almost you know it's going to be epic.
The wife and I made this, it was excellent thank you 👍🥃
This is awesome. Lots of veggies! Minimal dishes. You could have this on your go to menu at home!
I really enjoy your work. Thanks.
Let’s see Sam’s watch collection! And whatever else he collects (cutlery, pans, tools for work, etc). Do a CRIBS edition
Actually, I find the addition of the spinach quite intriguing and most likely brilliant (Some people put peas in there: So how is another green vegetable so out of left field in the end?); I look forward to trying it it Shepered/Cottage pie and "Paté Chinois"! 👍👍
Maybe because peas are delicious and not even Popeye likes spinach?
Oh yes!!!! I’m making it tonight 🙌🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽 thank you ❣️❣️😁new subbie bcuz of this pie🙌🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽
