Okay, I must admit, it is hilarious listening to him! However, if you can control your laughter long enough to listen to what he is actually saying, you will see that he is actually making a lot of sense. I have come to realize, (after I stopped laughing) that to start with, he is using these words in their proper context. What makes it somewhat difficult to follow, is that many of the words he uses are in their original Latin form (which is the original root of English, anyway). Secondly, as a lawyer, he uses a lot of legal jargon in his speech, which makes it difficult for the common man on the street to understand. Thirdly, as if the mere combination of those first two factors were not enough, he also uses of a lot of metaphors in his speech. What makes his speeches sound bombastic is the fact that these types of unusual, Latin-root vocabulary words and metaphorical phrases are not sprinkled lightly, but heavily packed within every single sentence. Ultimately, the straw that breaks the camel’s back is the fact that, the great Honourable has a pronounced Benin accent, which makes it sometimes difficult to understand his pronunciation of these unusual words, at first brush. After understanding those four factors, I listened to him again and got the full gist of what he was trying to say.
Sometimes however, Honourable also uses his understanding of the original roots of words to create new concepts, like his “kakisto-mobo-plutocracy,” which is the combination of three different forms of political government. Haba! Nigeria’s matter is exhausting! E reach to create new words, to describe the kind of political higi-haga in Nigeria! Lol! So the word Honorable created was “kakisto-mobo-plutocracy!”
Kakistocracy: a form of government in which the worst people are in power.
Mobocracy: a form of government in which a mob is the ruling class in power.
Plutocracy: a form of government in which the wealthy class rules.
In other words, he is stating that as evidence by the level of corruption and ineffectiveness of government, Nigeria is being ruled by a mob of wealthy aristocrats, who have no conscience or respect for the constitution and the rule of law, or of fairness and justice.
BTW, I also saw that some people were having particular difficulty with the word “Cabildo Rejectamenta” that he used. As I already mentioned, his pronunciation includes a strong Benin accent.
“Cabildo” = cabal; which means, a gang, clique, special group, mafia, mainly organized for political purposes, to commit some secret, dark political conspiracy.
“Rejectamenta” = to reject something because it is useless or worthless.
“Cabildo Rejectamenta” = What the Honourable is basically saying is that he rejects this worthless rule by the (Cabal) corrupt political class, clique of corrupt politicians, political gang, and their “mafia-style” system of government that fails to respect the Nigerian Constitution or the rights of the citizens.
Okay, I listen again, and I laugh, but I learnt some new words today:)
