I've noticed that a lot of online personalities don't expect giant turnouts when they do public appearances, and i think part of that is that - after a point - it's hard to truly conceptualize large numbers. And because they only ever engage with their fans from behind a screen, in a mostly text-based form, until they actually see the giant mass of bodies they don't really expect that their mere announced presence will cause havoc. The fact that it was a giveaway was just a force multiplier on top of what would have happened for an unregulated meet-and-greet

Why would you blame the streamer. Lofe is a literal prank RUclipsr who also had a meet and greet with a few thousand people and nobody acted like this it's not Kai's fault his fans are demons
I remember the time the game grumps had a garage sale. The event was severly overcrowded in a heat wave with little shade. Fans found their own gifts sent to the crew being sold completely untouched. Most of the crew were only out for a little while and then hid in the air conditioning. The police shut down the whole event before the first day ended for these safety reasons and not filing a permit for the event in the first place.
That must hurt so much to have them sent a god and see it being sold off never having been touched. It makes sense considering they likely get sent a lot of stuff but still sucks. I think I recall something similar with two best friends where they got sent a gift on a stream and then not realizing they hadn't turned the recording off had basically turned and asked "wtf do we do with this shit" right after thanking them for it.
And this is why celebrities typically hold their events at venues with tons of security and event staff as well as contacting the police to have extra units on standby.
@@UsykWillBeatFuryViaEzDecision you’re correct. But I never said it was supposed to be one. Kai should have seen this coming from a mile away. This is exactly the type of crowd he attracts, and exactly the type of people a "massive giveaway" post will pull in too. Their underestimation of their turnout was their fatal flaw. This was a terrible blunder, not to mention when your main audience is kids and it’s the summer.

far, far worse. All are extremely lucky no one died from being trampled or beaten. Crowd control is no joke & you can die surprisingly easy when the crowd starts pushing in different directions and you lose footing
The thing is, NYC has paperwork you can file with the city to have an event like this. You have to have an ambulance on sight and alert the fire department, submit a plan for crowd control, get approval from law enforcement, etc. And now I know why! They're honestly lucky no one died or got more seriously injured. Guess they wanted to avoid the filing fees for Union f-ing Square. sauce- organized a small fair in one of the other boroughs. Influencers need to understand how much weight their actions carry. You can't just tell millions of your fans to show up in a public place with no further planning. It's likely he did not think about the potential consequences of hosting an unsanctioned event where he expects thousands of people to show up. This is the kind of dangerous shit that can happen when unintelligent people gain influence over others.
This was pretty dumb but I don't think it's necessarily the result of an unintelligent person, just someone that's inexperienced in planning such large crowd events. Personally, my first thought of having thousands gathering wouldnt be that they would ransack business and destroy cars, it just seems so unlikely that it wouldn't cross my mind. It's hard to remember how fucking stupid people are sometimes. Maybe that just means I'm unintelligent too though lol, also admittedly I don't know if Kai has planned stuff like this before.
@@mortem4342You not considering a riot goes to show you don't understand why they acted this way in the first place. This is exactly what happens when you gather a group of people for that reason. "How do I stop people from breaking shit." Is the first and primary reason you plan out events like this in the first place. This happens on black Fridays, this happens on badly planned celebrity meet and greets.
So the mobilization response numbers are just the amount of people responding and where they’re coming from. 1 and 3 are for a specific unit, 2 and 4 are for regular precinct personnel. Level 1 is Borough only strategic response group, level 3 is citywide strategic response group personnel. Level 2 is borough only 1 supervisor and 8 cops from each precinct, level 4 is citywide 1 supervisor and 8 cops from every precinct. The actual event was more of a double level 4, they requested the 1 and 8, then called back an hour later and asked for an additional 1 and 8. Considering there are 77 precincts, 12 transit districts, and 9 housing PSAs, it basically meant they were requesting about 1,500 cops to disperse this riot. An absolutely massive response.

Kai is the loudest and most rambunctious twitch streamer I ever seen and just recently saw his entire bedroom flood with smoke because of a fire work, idk what kind of audience he was expecting to show up to this kind of big ass giveaway event 😂 I would’ve seen this coming from leagues away
right, like said in the video, i'm surprised no one on his team tried to plan it out more to be more of a safer meetup environment for those who genuinely wanted to be in the meetup & the bystanders? especially since he's doing it in new york. i don't think he had ill intentions but man what was this guy & his team thinking??
I was there at the event bro they was fighting throwing rocks and buckets it was crazy my friend was chasing the car kai was in
Exactly. Ofc everyone who watches kai is same as him. They will set the whole place on fire
Had no idea who this d*ck head was until he called for his rabid fans to takeover a lot of the spots in r/place
Socio-Economic factors
They really do influence this type of behavior. People do underestimate it
He doesn't think about anything, at all. the hamster is off the wheel
u think he knew people were gonna start rioting
Not only did no one apparently think "hm, we might want to get permission for this and let authorities know" for hosting an event anywhere, but ESPECIALLY in New York? Literally one of the biggest, most populated and chaotic places in the world??

I was there at the "event" hoping to bring a PS5 home to my nephews who I brought with me since they love Kai. I knew it was going to be crowded but I didn't expect it to be so unorganized and bluntly uncivilized. Bros were so ghetto and acting a fool for this one human I had to get my nephews out of that environment. It was almost impossible getting home since it was in Manhattan and we lived in Brooklyn, the traffic was high and they even shut down the subways near Union. I wouldn't blame Kai for what happened just the childish fan base that couldn't keep it together but that's not to say the man couldn't did something like hold an actual event. He pretty much said "go here and I'll be there" and that was literally it. It's also worth noting since everyone else there were hoping for PS5s that there was a high possibility that if you received one that shit was getting stolen on the spot and you'd probably get jumped. Nothing is truly free
I couldn’t imagine it being so overwhelming that it made national news but was it as chaotic in person?

If he wanted to give back to his community he should’ve held this event online. He would’ve reached a way larger pool of fans that way and could’ve prevented all of this. Watching videos of innocent people get roped into this shit by his fans (and Kai’s actions) is saddening. I hope he learns from this and other creators won’t try to do the same.
Other creators have done the same, for years, and that's why they're going to throw the book at him and hopefully make him an example. It needs to be done. This needs to end. Platforms are going to have to start cracking down on their users when their antics start causing mass incidents in public. Channels should be deleted when such creators start abusing their position to cause massively dangerous incidents like this.
Maybe Twitch just needs to put their creators through an IQ test to ensure they meet BARE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS before they can build a fan base of morons?
