I particularly liked how you carved into the wax and used India ink afterward to highlight the carved area. Great idea. 😊

    Wow!
Soooo much excellent information in one video. I’ve been doing encaustic for years and learned new techniques and tips from this. Thank you!!! TC in Victoria BC Canada.

Thanks, I like that as an artist we must find a way to use our mistakes as a positive learning experience.

So glad to see someone use washi tape with encaustic I have tons that I wanted to use and wasn’t sure if it would fuse. A bit after the fact but it seems the stenciling would have been the perfect place to use pan pastels and a quick light fuse to set it especially since you have to work on so many sides.

Oh my goodness, the bees!! So pretty! Have you ever thought of doing a twist on classic dice? I think that’d be cool :) love you!!

If you lightly fuse the india ink before adding a top coat of clear medium, your ink shouldn’t move! 😉 Also, apply your ink to warm wax to minimize beading up. (A lot has to do with brand of ink.)

I have a question not related to what you’re demonstrating right now. Are you familiar with XD WAX MEDIUM the one with extra damar says it’s used to create a glass like topcoat and why would you use that after you’re done using for instance, they are enough wax on your picture. Would you do it after the whole picture is totally drive for days would you do it right after would you do it instead of the other works? I’m not sure are you please tell me if you know thanks so much.

I just looked this up. So, what I saw was encaustic medium with a 50/50 ratio beeswax to damar. The damar is a hardener and also makes the wax more transparent- less cloudy, so that's why they say this is harder when cool and more glossy and clear. This is interesting because I've never used a higher ratio than 20/80 resin to wax, and heard it wasn't a good idea. Thanks for sharing! I might have to make some now ...
